Forum Snowboards sticks to the left side of snowboarding with a focus on freestyle boards. They don’t need gold medals, overpriced products or a season pass to have fun, they ride the backyards, the streets, the mountains and wherever they can find snow. For 2012, Forum offers their combo platter, doubleDog, Chillydog with pop, camber and camber pop. The combo platter located under the toes and heels lifts the edges up off the snow and features the same pop, edge grip, stable landing platform and power as camber. DoubleDog is cambered sections located under each foot that delivers power, pop and edge grip for charging fast and going big with rocker sections between the feet and in the nose/tail. Chillydog with Pop features all the stability, predictability and forgiving feel of continuous rocker but with special focused pop zones just outside your stance. Camber which offers traditional camber and camber pop which has added pop zones that increase the surface area just inside the contact points at the nose and tail. Forum Holy Moly Combing the pop and power of camber and the playful ride of rocker, combo platter eliminates edge catch for all-out park assualts. Profile combo platter, […]

Location: Breckenridge, CO Snow Conditions: Mixture of hardpacked to slushy groomers. Setup: I rode the Forum Holy Moly with my Union bastardized bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 152cm. First Impression: I was told this was a love it or hate it board but I’m actually in the middle of the road on this board…never knew what this board would do on the mountain. Weight: average Flex: The holy moly felt softer between the bindings making it an easy board to get on edge and into turns but with a slightly stiffer nose/tail flex. Overall the flex was middle of the road, it wasn’t a stiff board but wasn’t a soft board for the mountain. The combo platter technology gives it rocker and camber. Turning: The holy moly has buttercup which is what they call when the contact points are lifted up off the snow, it makes it so when you don’t catch the edges easily on the mountain which was nice. When it came to fully engaging the edge in a carve, once on edge it felt fine in turns. It was easy to get on edge with the torsional flex, easier to turn with but overall […]

Forum Snowboards doesn’t hide who they are and with a heavy freestyle focus on riding they continue to build freestyle boards and let the other companies that freeride build freeride boards. Their style is very clear in their well-done snowboard videos each year and is shaped by their freestyle personality driven team of riders who make the whole mountain a terrain park. The end result is their motto, “we live forum” and they continue to in 10-11 with their range of products for the snow. New for 10-11, in addition to the chillydog continuous rocker forum is offering the combo platter on a variety of boards. The combo platter is the same pop, edge grip and stable landing platform as camber, now combined with a forgiving and playful side of rocker. They’ve also added booter boosters which is increased energy return in the nose and tail, swingers club which is shaved cores that save weight to help spin faster and float through powder and stiffer tails for power in high speeds and slashing. Women also get their own chillydog this year customed to women riders with a slightly lower rocker height and a softer core profile between the feet to […]

Location: Loveland, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Forum Youngblood with Forum Shaka bindings and Bonfire Geo boots. Size: 156cm. First Impression: Woah, softer and really feeling the connection between bindings to board…a bit too connected. Weight: average Flex: The Youngblood is a softer flexing park board throughout the board and the combination of the shaka’s was a bit too much flexing for me in how the board handled the mountain. In the park it excelled for flex, easy to press, butter, ollie, pop and slide without any worries. The chillydog rocker is a continuous rocker from tip to tail and on the youngblood it made for a very soft, playful park board. Turning: One of the first turns I did with the youngblood was carve uphill with it to see how it flexed and carved into the snow, immediately it bucked me out when I held the edge which I think was the softer flex and something else. On the carves it didn’t hold the edge, skidded turns were much better but carved turns it wasn’t as good holding in them. I ended up being a bit more careful with turns […]

Location: Loveland, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Form Destroyer Chillydog with Forum Shaka bindings and Bonfire Geo boots. Size: 154cm First Impression: Chillydog rocker, lets see how this is on a mid flexing board. Weight: Average Flex: Overall the flex was middle of the road, its meant for all mountain and it’s not a soft rocker board but not stiffer either. Good mix of flex that blends together to give the board a ride to handle it all. I found the flex fine for freeriding and when I did take it in the park or just playing with, the nose and tail were easy to press and butter on with the chillydog rocker. It felt stiffer under bindings and definitely for the words they describe on how it can handle jumping, that would make sense to take the impact on landings better. The chillydog rocker is a continuous rocker from tip to tail and I found I liked it better on the destroyer than the youngblood where it was a bit too soft for me. Turning: This is where I preferred the destroyer over the youngblood, the destroyer excelled edge to […]

For years Forum has been rebuilt under the Burton parent company, expanding now into a snowboard company building up a quality product with less reliance on the team. You have to give them credit for the Bob Ross Happy Boarding design that is featured on the Republic binding. For 09-10, Forum received the SIA Snowpress Innovation Award for their Shaka binding, Forums new technology using a hinge disc that allows for natural board flex. TWS Business has a great video from SIA that shows the Shaka binding up close and what it does. Each year I’ve skipped by Forum during demo time but not this year, it’s time to head back to Forum and see how far they’ve come.
