Shay: What is your job title? Brad: I recently started my own business, Marketing Farmer and I haven’t really given myself a title. I just use: consultant, writer. [singlepic id=4577 w=400 h=300 float=] Shay: Did your parents question your job choice? Brad: No, my parents have always supported my choices even when I wanted to be a rock star. Shay: What was your first set up? Brad: A Never Summer Super Light. I had Nitro bindings and Blaxx boots. Shay: What is your current set up? Brad: I ride the Arbor Draft, Lib Tech Travis Rice and when it dumps I have a Burton Malolo. I use Thirtytwo boots, Flux bindings, Bonfire outerwear and I really like Spaceraft beanies. Shay: What was your first job? Brad: Well my first job ever was watering plants at Target but my first industry job was as a marketing coordinator at Bear Valley Mountain Resort. My first writing job was as a freelance writer for Transworld Snowboarding Business. Shay: What’s a great day of snowboarding to you? Brad: Deep powder in Canada or warm sunny park day in SoCal. Either way I’m pretty amped but the powder days are what I live for. [singlepic […]

Industry Profile: Freelance Writer Brooke Geery Shay: Tell us a little bit about yourself? Brooke: I am about to tell you a lot of stuff about myself, so I will keep this short. My name is Brooke. I do “extreme” stuff and then write it off my taxes.Shay: What is your job title? Brooke: I have self-bestowed the title of Extreme Journalist upon myself, but I guess yo could call me an editor and freelance writer. Shay: Did your parents question your job choice? Brooke: I think the only time my dad was concerned was when he got an angry phone call from someone I’d written about who didn’t like what I had to say. But no, considering I was in high school and getting paid to go to events and write stories I think they were pretty stoked. Plus no one in my family has a real job. It’s just not the Geery thing to do. Shay: What was your first set up? Brooke: My first day snowboarding was on the Burton Ouji board. Yeah it was a 158. But that was just a loaner. My parents bought me a Funky off one of my dad’s friends whose daughter […]

Looks like we haven’t seen the end of Future Snowboarding Magazine. Today on Transworld Business a press release just went out announcing the sale of Future Snowboarding to Storm Mountain Publishing who publishes Snowboard Magazine and Freeskier Magazine. The sale included the website www.futuresnowboarding.com and the women’s magazine Drift as well as fulfilling all of Future Snowboarding’s oustanding subscriptions with Snowboard Mag. On a more positive note, Snowboard says that they will be updating the future snowboarding website with content. Future Snowboarding was closed down on June 12th due to financial reasons. I wrote up a goodbye letter to the magazine. While Future wasn’t loved by everyone, I enjoyed reading the magazine and the online community had the ability to grow and become a good place for people to join. I am quite happy with the sale, it keeps a website alive with content and another online community (I volunteer moderate their forums so we’ll see if that continues) and keeps a women’s magazine online through Snowboard Magazine…a very smart choice for a magazine looking for more women readers. So props to Snowboard Magazine! I’ll toast a drink when I get off work today…probably a cheap ass fake Corona…but it’s […]

The word is getting out by a couple sources that Future Snowboard Mag is finished. Transworld Business and Lee Crane’s blog are both posting up the news. I guess we’ll see whether or not it’s true. In the meantime…I wrote up a goodbye letter to FSM Dear FSM, It’s a sad day to hear that you are closing your doors. I enjoyed reading articles that the other snowboard magazines would never touch. Who else would discuss the panty trees at mountains or the ode to bikini girl that made me laugh so hard. Your article that broke down outerwear tech…is still something I use to this day. The greatest moments in competitive snowboarding spoke of true stories I wanted to hear more about…Terje’s switch run on the banked slalom. There were so many articles that were fun to read and educated us as riders. You managed to write articles that were classics, that could be used 2 years ago to now. It wasn’t about which rider was the coolest or which fine print techno jacket you had to have…it was articles based on everyday stuff snowboarders should know like how to adjust your bindings properly to your boots or how […]

Each year two snowboard tests come out from respective magazines, Future Snowboarding and Transworld Snowboarding Magazine. These board tests are talked about and people do listen to them. I say with any board test or review, remember the people riding these boards are not you…you might interpret boards differently than a pro rider or test rider. Here’s my take on the list for 2009. I just started hearing about boards that have been placed in the lists this year. So here’s a heads up on the 2008-2009 Transworld Good Wood and Future Snowboarding’s board’s of the Year. The 2009 Good Wood Results List: Top 10 Men’s Boards over $400 1.
