Each day riders and skiers hit the slopes and each day an injury is possible, it’s just part of the lifestyle whether it’s in the terrain park or just learning how to snowboard. Unfortunately today not everyone has insurance and an injury can lead to a hospital visit which can lead to bills that you’ll be taking years to pay off. That’s where Xtreme Sports Insurance comes in, it won’t replace medical insurance but it’ll help out if your uncovered as accident insurance and snowboarding injuries are accidents. The plans start at $17 a month. There are plenty of snowboarders out there, whether it’s part time resort employees or upcoming riders that aren’t covered and this can certainly help out. The way the plan works is if you beak your arm you’ll get x amount of dollars for xray, cast, office visit, and that’s just one case. [singlepic id=5424 w=400 h=286 float=] To find out more about the Xtreme Sports Insurance, I got in touch with them to get some question answered and see how beneficial this is for snowboarders. They also run a blog that answers a lot of questions. Shay: Does XSI cover snowboard […]

It was a snowy Christmas so the day after offered up some fresh snow and not that many people on the slopes. Here’s the video from riding, it was a really fun day until the end. This was taken with the vholdr cam, still working on the angle when riding but at least it’s not all looking down now. Steamboat 12/26/08 from Shayboarder on Vimeo. I met up with Dave (who I know from snowboard.com) and his brother Brian. His other brother had binding issues and went in on our first run. We started a warm up in the Three O’Clock trees off Sundown Express. That definitely got my legs back on the board and ready for more. Dave took the shot of me riding in the Aspens We rode back up Sundown but this time dropped into the Morningside area of the mountain. Morningside is a great area, but the downside is the flatness of the terrain. Combine that with pine trees, you have more of a chance of tree wells which are very dangerous. Anytime you ride trees, make sure you are riding with people and know the area. On the […]

I wrote this piece 3 months after having knee surgery back in Washington in 2004. When your injured and not able to do something you love…you really miss those things that seemed normal or you took for granted. So here’s the list of things I miss about boarding… 1. the first chair ride in the morning, smelling the cold air. 2. hitting the pipe and hiking it until i get my tricks down for the day. 3. standing out on hwy 2 trying to convince someone i’m not a psycho so they can give me a ride up to the mtn that’s only 10 minutes away. 4. waking up very slowly and putting my gear on…i miss having boots be wet, having gear be smelly, and having lost some stuff from the night before. 5. enjoying a day of riding with the friends, or seeing friends on the mtn and just riding for the day. 6. beating my friends down to the chair when i’m riding switch 🙂 7. i even miss teaching snowboarding to little kids in packs of 10 who i gotta talk to about finding nemo and bring up tons of disney characters to convince them to […]
