[singlepic id=14656 w=150 h=176 float=right] Location: Mission Ridge, WA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Jones Mothership with Union Trilogy bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 154 cm (but technically this size doesn’t exist, it’ll be 152 or 156) First Impression: I started laughing out of excitement when I realized how fast, stable and how the board could carve. It was a good laugh out of delight. Weight: Average. Flex: The Mothership is based off of the men’s Flagship so it’s built for freeriding, charging and riding mountains with smooth lines. The flex is on the stiffer end with a tad softer nose and more stiffer responsive tail to help drive the board into turns and powder lines. Torsionally it’s a bit softer so you still get good edge to edge response. Overall on the scale it’s identified as a 6 for flex and I agree. The Mothership is camber underfoot and rocker just a couple inches outside of the inserts to the contact points. Turning: You can make a variety of turns with the Mothership, it was really smooth on long drawn out S turns and locked in without feeling locked in. On […]

[singlepic id=12334 w=150 h=181 link=”http://www.shayboarder.com/2011/08/shayboarders-2012-top-picks.html” float=right] Location: Winter Park, CO + Mammoth, CA + June, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked to icy groomers to leftover powder to deep powder. This board has ridden every condition possible. Setup: I rode the Jones Hovercraft with Union Milan bindings (and my Union Team bindings in CA) and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 156cm. First Impression: At first glimpse, you don’t think the board will handle non-power conditions but it does and it’s a totally fun way to ride the mountain. In powder, you feel like you don’t even need to stay afloat with much effort. Weight: Average Flex: Softer nose on the hovercraft, stiff tail and the stiffer flex between the bindings towards the tail of the board, giving you a powerful board because except for the nose you feel like you are riding camber down the mountain. The hovercraft features rocker towards the nose of the board with camber underfoot. In powder, the rocker on the nose noticeably helps the board float in the deeper powder. Turning: Despite how the hovercraft looks, it actually handles like camber and has an effective edge for holding turns on groomers and hardpacked conditions. […]
