I’m not one to turn down a ride break especially when friends walk into my office geared up and ask. It was an easy decision to make a couple laps with Jess and Phil today. The mountain was a bit busier than yesterday but still fun to make laps and not crowded. We ended up taking Ranger lift for a couple mini park laps. After a couple park laps we convinced Jess to hit the first box (and she did!). Then it was onto riding the rest of the mountain, lapping Schoolmarm to Peru. By then the clouds were taking shape, I caught this slash photo of Phil with the crazy clouds overhead.

After a busy Opening Weekend, a relaxing Monday on the slopes was perfect. I headed up with the skier to make park laps with him and get back into the swing of winter. The A51 terrain park has about 25 features up right now and a whole line of box features for those seeking a more mellow terrain park line. Starting this season out on the Arbor Swoon (which I rode previously). Looking forward to Colorado demo days and reviewing gear when I can. Been rocking the Bent Metals from last year as well and will be switching to Burton Escapades as the season goes on. Good day getting back on the boxes and having fun with the skier. Can’t complain when it’s early November and can just lap the mountain you work for.

While Loveland and A-Basin raced to open and started turning lifts in October, I’ve been busy preparing and waiting for the Opening of Keystone in Colorado. Yesterday we got to sample the goods before the public did which was a great start to the season and today I was on the mountain working to capture the Opening Day experience through social media. Thanks to a coffee on the way to work, I was wide awake at 6am and ready to start the season. By 7:30 when the crowd started growing, it was time to head outside. We had compiled a couple swag giveaways including a GoPro prize to hang out to the early birds in line. The morning crowd was great, really stoked and it was fun taking pics of everyone and throwing out goodies. We had a ceremony to welcome the Bergman family and honored them with their own Bergman gondola (#2 on the line). Last year was the Dercum gondola and this year was the Bergman’s. Both of them are a huge part of Keystone’s history. After many people got their first turns, it was time to head up and get in my lap for the day. I […]

It’s hard to imagine a pile of snow, let alone 10 tons of snow on a 70 degree September day in Summit County, Colorado, but the first rail jam of the season kicked off at Keystone Resort with just that. The Keystone park crew built three rideable features for local skiers and snowboarders to have a jam session to kick off the upcoming season. It was an easy decision to take a break from unpacking and organizing and head to Keystone to check out the event. Just a 5 minute walk through the base to get to the rail jam packed with people watching the action. At the base, spectators could watch the rail jam, get goodies from the sponsor tents and watch the downhill mountain bikers come rushing through. I arrived just in time to watch the end of the preliminary rounds and watch the women’s and men’s finals. The awards at the end offered up a handful of prizes like a seasons pass, GoPro and outerwear. Today’s setup was two down rails (one with a donkey dick) with a stairset and a pole jam. There was enough snow to drop in, hit the features and then hopefully land […]
