Arriving in Golden wasn’t much but arriving at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort was incredible. It was a good thing I was on the gondola alone because I couldn’t help but smile and laugh at what I was seeing surround me. This wasn’t just a ski resort, this was a ski resort in the Canadian Rockies. I couldn’t believe it took me 31 years to snowboard here. It certainly won’t be another 31 before I return… I followed the lines keeping to mostly blue and black runs, did corduroy laps in the morning and rode the trees when the snow softened up in the afternoon.
With the lack of snow and mountain closures in Washington, it made perfect sense that I would hop in the car and create my own mountain adventure. I had been wanting to visit more of the Canadian Rockies after visiting Revelstoke during Tailgate BC a couple years back so this made perfect sense that I would start my trip with Revelstoke, check out Kicking Horse and end my journey at Lake Louise before heading home to Washington. A perfect loop, two days of travel with three days of snowboarding. This ended up being a solo road trip. I invited friends, family and the people I thought might make it happen to join me.
