Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Softpacked to hardpacked conditions. Setup: I rode the Lib Tech Trice with Roxy Torah Bright bindings and Vans aura boots. Size: 153 First Impression: The Trice rides just like Travis Rice. Fast, charging and handles the mountain like a dream. Weight: Average. Flex: The Trice offers a stiffer, stable ride without sacrificing the fun of it. Between the bindings, it’s torsionally softer so you get quick response from the board. From the bindings to the blunted nose/tail, you have a stiffer flex to help absorb impact and give you a stable ride on the mountain. I sized down with the Trice this year and it still handled and charged the mountain. The T.Rice has C2 technology which is banana rocker between the bindings and camber from the inserts to the contact points. Turning: Quick and responsive. Here’s the deal, last time I rode the Trice, it was the 57 and this time with the 53 it was even better despite the waist width of 25.3. The numbers are dialed and despite being wide, it turns quickly and responds to the rider and the snow. It’s definitely not a board for a beginner but for […]

Location: Mission Ridge, WA Snow Conditions: Softpacked groomers to fresh snow on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Lib Tech Attack Banana with K2 Formula bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 156cm First Impression: The Attack Banana continues to charge the entire mountain. Weight: average. Flex: Longitudinally it’s stiffer from nose to tail which helps give it the stable feeling during riding and charging the mountain. Torsionally it’s a tad softer so you can get easier quick response from edge to edge. The flex overall is described by Lib Tech as a 6.5 which allos the board to handle the whole mountain and charge in the powder. The Attack Banana features Ec2 technology which is a mix between BTX and C2 technology, featuring rocker (a.k.a. banana) between the feet; from the feet out the snowboard is shaped with an elliptical camber shape. Turning: Getting back on the Attack Banana is like feeling you never got off of riding it. It doesn’t require adjustment, it’s easy to turn and delivers a quick response from edge to edge. I was finally able to get on the 156cm to compare against the 159 handling. It was more ideal but delivered the […]

The concept of the banana has spread like wildfire and is a common tie among the snowboard styles they produce. For 2013, Lib Tech Snowboards continues to offer a range of styles for riders. The new C3 with a trapezoidal camber and rocker between your feet. The BTX has rocker between the feet blended with flat to mild camber to contact points. EC2 performs halfway between original banana tech and C2 with rocker between the feet blended with elliptical camber to contact points. C2 with rocker between the feet blended with radial camber to contact points. Enhanced Banana with the highest rocker between the feet with a secret numerical formula of camber to the contact points. C1 with rocker between your feet and flat to mild camber from the front foot to nose contact blended with camber from the back foot to the rear contact area. Tip to Tail Rocker is a powder only design with rocker extending past your feet. Setup: I rode the Lib Tech T.Rice with my Union Team bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 157cm. First Impression: Pop, check. Stability, check. Charging, check. Ride a little more like Trice in your head? Sure. Weight: Tad heavier than average Flex: I was expecting a stiffer ride and while it’s up there on the flex, it’s not so overly stiff you can’t play with it. From the bindings to the nose/tail were noticeably stiffer and that helped keep it longitudinally on the stiff side. However torsionally, the T.Rice had a easier/softer torsional flex that made quick turns and it feel softer during riding. Lib Tech says it’s a 7 on the flex scale for 2011-2012 but a 7 that’s still capable of riding anywhere you want. The T.Rice has C2 technology which is banana rocker between the bindings and camber from the inserts to the contact points. Turning: I was expecting the 25.8 waist width to be a slow turner for me while riding so I took warm up runs on the first day with it but eventually realized that the […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomed runs. Setup: I rode the Lib Tech Magic Banana with my Union Team bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 157cm. First Impression: It rips up the mountain with all mountain freestyle flare to it. Weight: average Flex: The Banana Magic is that all mountain freestyle board that is on the stiffer side for freestyle but that’s what makes it handle the whole mountain and take on the park. Lib Tech rates it as a 6-7 on their scale. Both longitudinally and torsional it’s about the same in flex but BTX on the board makes those butters/presses still doable. The stability allowed it to ride the mountain comfortably but also good pop for taking into the park. The Banana Magic is enhanced BTX which means banana rocker between your feet and flat from beginning of inserts to contact points with a numerically enhanced sidecut. Turning: The Banana Magic doesn’t ride like your typical BTX snowboard, it actually handles carving and turns better with the enhanced sidecut. Very quick to turn and fast riding on edge, it could rally through carves on the mountain on short and long radius turns. Heelside […]
