When I used to live in Steamboat, a trip to Loveland was always worth the effort; they offered a ton of demos, early and late seasons and a mellow environment that was always a fun day on the mountain. Now that I live in Summit County and since today was my day off, I headed to Loveland to check out the on-snow demos from Never Summer, Capita, Arbor and Flux. It felt great to meet up with familiar faces on the slopes. The first laps I took were with Gags and we lapped park where he put me to shame on the park features. The cold kept the lines moving quickly and there really wasn’t much of a wait for most of the afternoon. Even though it was a demo day, I only rode one board other than my own. I got to try the Capita Scotty Stevens with Union contact bindings. Today was more about snowboarding than reviewing gear but reviews will start coming soon. Been waiting for mountain conditions to go beyond groomers. In the afternoon, finally met up with Phillip who was a good friend in Steamboat and now reps for companies. We ended up lapping the […]

Despite a late night in Summit County, day 2 of demos meant getting back on snow bright and early for more boards and bindings to try out. The weather remained beautiful all day long and offered up the perfect opportunity to take laps with friends while trying new gear. The K2 guys making sure a rider is dialed into the gear [singlepic id=6787 w=400 h=300 float=] Our crew: Doug, Philip and myself [singlepic id=6785 w=400 h=300 float=] I took out a couple more setups to try out, today was the Lib Tech Banana Magic, Arbor Push, Rome Agent, K2 Slayblade, K2 Auto Agogo’s, Nitro Rook, Burton Feelgood V-rocker and Burton Lipstick. All will be coming soon in reviews on how each one rode. Philip testing the flex and buttering of a board [singlepic id=6788 w=400 h=300 float=] Doug testing out one of the boards on the flat box [singlepic id=6789 w=400 h=300 float=] Towards the end of the day we got goofy on the slopes and those crazy Mervin kids took out the biggest boards for some downhill extreme eurocarving runs. Dan led the pack with his backwards snowboarding movement…it might catch on.
In November each year there are two days where a range of companies come to Loveland to give shop employees the chance to try out the latest gear. Each year I attend the shop demo to get a better understanding of what boards you guys want to know more about. This year I drove down with Philip from the Click and Doug to attend the demos together. Despite the economy there were still a good amount of snowboard companies on hand, this year we had Rome, K2, Nitro, Forum, Burton, Salomon, Arbor, Unity, Never Summer, Capita, Union, Flow, Ride, Head, LTD, Lamar, Lib Tech, Roxy, GNU, Bent Metal and I’m sure I’m forgetting some others that were there. [singlepic id=6778 w=400 h=300 float=] This year we had bluebird sunny skies and hardpacked snow on the mountain. By the end of the day we’d get icy spots but overall conditions were similiar for both days. I ended up trying out these setups: Burton Custom V-rocker, Burton Lexa bindings, Forum Youngblood Chillydog, Forum Destroyer Chillydog, Forum Shaka bindings, Ride Machete, Ride Sigma Movement bindings, Rome Postermania 1985, and Union Contact bindings before calling it a day. All of those will be coming […]

I watched it snow in Silverthorne last night and this morning we had a couple new inches of snow on the ground for today’s shredding. I was able to sleep in and plan out another day of shredding at Loveland with Julie. [singlepic id=6767 w=400 h=300 float=] It was a cold day on the mountain but beautiful out with almost sunny conditions and fresh new snow. I was able to find some powder on the sides of runs [singlepic id=6766 w=400 h=300 float=] It was the second day of demos at Loveland for Never Summer and another busy day of demos getting on the mountain. It’s the first time I’ve seen so few boards in the demo tent and I ended up not demoing so others would have the chance to ride boards. [singlepic id=6770 w=400 h=300 float=] We managed to steal Joey away from the demo tent and he did his best rock out pose for the camera [singlepic id=6768 w=400 h=300 float=] Julie getting the flat box rail [singlepic id=6764 w=400 h=300 float=] Gag’s still killing it at 50 years old [singlepic id=6769 w=400 h=300 float=] Huge congrats go out to Larry for trying his first box! Yesterday […]
