Despite a late night in Summit County, day 2 of demos meant getting back on snow bright and early for more boards and bindings to try out. The weather remained beautiful all day long and offered up the perfect opportunity to take laps with friends while trying new gear. The K2 guys making sure a rider is dialed into the gear [singlepic id=6787 w=400 h=300 float=] Our crew: Doug, Philip and myself [singlepic id=6785 w=400 h=300 float=] I took out a couple more setups to try out, today was the Lib Tech Banana Magic, Arbor Push, Rome Agent, K2 Slayblade, K2 Auto Agogo’s, Nitro Rook, Burton Feelgood V-rocker and Burton Lipstick. All will be coming soon in reviews on how each one rode.
In November each year there are two days where a range of companies come to Loveland to give shop employees the chance to try out the latest gear. Each year I attend the shop demo to get a better understanding of what boards you guys want to know more about. This year I drove down with Philip from the Click and Doug to attend the demos together. Despite the economy there were still a good amount of snowboard companies on hand, this year we had Rome, K2, Nitro, Forum, Burton, Salomon, Arbor, Unity, Never Summer, Capita, Union, Flow, Ride, Head, LTD, Lamar, Lib Tech, Roxy, GNU, Bent Metal and I’m sure I’m forgetting some others that were there. [singlepic id=6778 w=400 h=300 float=] This year we had bluebird sunny skies and hardpacked snow on the mountain. By the end of the day we’d get icy spots but overall conditions were similiar for both days. I ended up trying out these setups: Burton Custom V-rocker, Burton Lexa bindings, Forum Youngblood Chillydog, Forum Destroyer Chillydog, Forum Shaka bindings, Ride Machete, Ride Sigma Movement bindings, Rome Postermania 1985, and Union Contact bindings before calling it a day. All of those will be coming […]

I watched it snow in Silverthorne last night and this morning we had a couple new inches of snow on the ground for today’s shredding. I was able to sleep in and plan out another day of shredding at Loveland with Julie. [singlepic id=6767 w=400 h=300 float=] It was a cold day on the mountain but beautiful out with almost sunny conditions and fresh new snow. I was able to find some powder on the sides of runs [singlepic id=6766 w=400 h=300 float=] It was the second day of demos at Loveland for Never Summer and another busy day of demos getting on the mountain. It’s the first time I’ve seen so few boards in the demo tent and I ended up not demoing so others would have the chance to ride boards. [singlepic id=6770 w=400 h=300 float=] We managed to steal Joey away from the demo tent and he did his best rock out pose for the camera [singlepic id=6768 w=400 h=300 float=] Julie getting the flat box rail [singlepic id=6764 w=400 h=300 float=] Gag’s still killing it at 50 years old [singlepic id=6769 w=400 h=300 float=] Huge congrats go out to Larry for trying his first box! Yesterday […]

There are definitely somedays when I hate waking up early even though I know I’ll be happy once I hit the snow and Saturday was that day for me. The driving conditions were rough from Steamboat to Loveland which meant getting up earlier and going slower because of icy roads. I managed to make it to Loveland just in time to meet Julie at the base of the mountain. Julie and I met at Windell’s Camp in August and kept in touch after camp. She flew out from the east coast for a visit and was able to get up to the mountains for some shred time. [singlepic id=6756 w=400 h=300 float=] Julie was stoked to be in CO [singlepic id=6763 w=400 h=300 float=] Saturday was also a demo day for Never Summer, they were on hand with all the 09-10 models and remained very busy all day at the demos. I saw Madeleine and Larry demoing even more boards and I met Chad and John who also read the blog. [singlepic id=6757 w=400 h=300 float=] Throughout the day we ran into various people riding, from Steamboat Sonny and Molly were lapping park and I got a great shot of […]

Four resorts are now open for snowboarding and skiing in Colorado which means my weekends are filled with traveling down to one of those four mountains to enjoy some much needed shred time. Saturday I spent the day at Loveland, carpooled down with Philip and Doug and then met up with my friend Bruce who flew in from Seattle that morning. Throughout the day we had plenty of people to ride with. It was busy when we got there, but cleared up not too long after and barely any lines for the afternoon. [singlepic id=6716 w=400 h=300 float=] Philip, myself and Bruce on the chairlift [singlepic id=6717 w=400 h=300 float=] The best part about Saturday was it was Lib Tech Rider Appreciation and Demo Day so riders received $25 lift tickets and the chance to ride a Lib/GNU/Roxy snowboard. Dan was on hand to make things seriously fun! [singlepic id=6718 w=300 h=400 float=] I ended up demoing only two boards for the day, the GNU Street series and GNU Danny Kass which I’ll put up reviews for soon. [singlepic id=6719 w=300 h=400 float=] Also at the demo tent I ran into Madeleine and Larry who check out the blog [singlepic […]

I treated my friends great by being the designated driver at Halloween last night so I could enjoy snowboarding today and it paid off with a fun day on snow. I even forgot that it was daylight savings but luckily my phone kept me on time for meeting up to shred. I met up with Chris who runs snowboarderguide and we journeyed down with Doug. Once at Loveland we met up with Dylan and Carly, other Steamboat instructors for a day of shredding. [singlepic id=6690 w=400 h=300 float=] Conditions were amazing, no lines when we arrived and only one time during the day where the lines were surprisingly long (didn’t last). It was bluebird weather with no clouds in sight all afternoon and enough wind to make it not that warm outside. Dylan layin it low [singlepic id=6689 w=400 h=300 float=] Chris on the rainbow box [singlepic id=6688 w=400 h=300 float=] I had a couple good falls today once when tail pressing I completely ate it and then on the dance box when trying boardslides again, let it slip out from underneath me. I hiked back up and tried it again and will continue to get better at them. It’s […]

The best part about snowboarding is once I hit the snow, everything else fades away. I’m surrounded by friends, peers, snowboarders and anything that is stressing me out or causing problems in my life isn’t part of snowboarding that day. It was another day of carpooling to Loveland Ski Area from Steamboat, about an hour and a half drive each way. Our crew was mountain employees: Steve (sign shop), Corey and Eric (Lift Maintenance). [singlepic id=6534 w=300 h=400 float=] We showed up a little after 10am and found barely any lines on the mountain with the sun shining for a beautiful warm day on the slopes. My new bangs…they look good. [singlepic id=6527 w=400 h=300 float=] On the mountain we met up with the Denver-sierrasnowboard friends (Bru, Joel, Steve, JR, Kevin?) and Lauren came up for the day to help teach Steve how to snowboard. [singlepic id=6530 w=400 h=300 float=] Since last weekend Loveland has opened up more runs with 5 runs open and moved the terrain park to the lower section with three features: C-box, Rainbow box and flat box. [singlepic id=6531 w=400 h=300 float=] Bru’s brother Steve is back in the game to get his shred on so […]
