This has been the first Art Park at Mammoth Mountain, but it has exceeded my expectations as to what a park can be. It’s innovative, creative and challenging but also educational on the I AM SNOWBOARDING /JLA – Jeffy Anderson collaboration. I’ve seen beginning to advanced riders and skiers go through art park enjoying the features so far this season. Today the skier and I made a couple South Park laps. I finally hit the small jump line and a flat box feature at the bottom of the park before we headed into Art Park after warming up. It works out that the skier hits the big features and I get to ride the smaller features each lap we take through the Art Park. The skier on the massive flat down rail [singlepic id=11044 w=1000 h=667 float=] Upon entering the art park, you have two choices of 30 f00t flat rails and the skier went for the right side option [singlepic id=11046 w=1000 h=667 float=] After a couple laps we ran into Jade and Grant on chair #4 and ended up lapping Art Park for a run with them.
Almost 6 months ago, I arrived in Mammoth Lakes to work for the mountain. Its been a really great learning experience and most of all, I learn from the people I work with everyday. Today a couple of us from marketing like Dan, myself, Katy and Steve headed out onto the slopes with Bill Byrne from BBPR who was in town. Bill does great blog writeups on malakye.com about action sports PR. There’s no doubt that the mountain is riding nicely, it was sunny with some winds but overall beautiful day and soft snow on the groomers. We headed over to Art Park, Canyon mini park and boardercross for some turns. I got to try out the new NXT tube with abstract art on it. Pretty rad design and good to stay covered up for the sunny days now. Dan, Katy and myself on the lift [singlepic id=11040 w=500 h=281 float=] Bill Byrne in the mini pipe [singlepic id=11042 w=500 h=281 float=] Steve is the creative director at Mammoth but also does board testing for Outside Magazine, he was out riding the 2012 Ride Highlife and testing it out. [singlepic id=11043 w=500 h=281 float=] Definitely a great way to end […]

Usually I have weekends off but with Big Snow Bash going on this weekend, I helped out with giving out the Big Snow Bash t-shirts on the mountain at each of the lodges and location points. It meant a day out on the mountain, in the snow and sun getting people stoked for free shirts! The 18 foot pipe being build at the top of South Park…hopefully done soon. The 22 foot pipe is too big and the 12 foot pipe is too small for me. [singlepic id=10545 w=500 h=281 float=] Snow reporter Ashley holding up the shirts [singlepic id=10544 w=500 h=281 float=] During some downtime we made our way through the art park to ride the flat box. I talked Ashley into hitting it and she did! She did awesome too! This is the Jeffy Anderson artwork and it’s soo much fun to ride on something so rad you can check out too! [singlepic id=10546 w=300 h=414 float=] The Big Snow Bash snowman village, people creating their own snowman around the super big snowman! [singlepic id=10548 w=500 h=281 float=] It was a fun but tiring day on the slopes! The fun part was realizing it was my 50th day […]

After weeks of storms, seeing the sun for more than 24 hours has been much-needed. It felt really good to get out on the slopes, take lunchtime laps and cruise around the mountain to just ride. I had been wanting to check out the Art Park since it opened but hadn’t had the chance to yet with all the powder turns overtaking any park runs. So Adina and I headed over to Canyon Lodge area to find the Art Park. [singlepic id=10438 w=500 h=281 float=] Mammoth opened the Art Park on Christmas in collaboration with AR4T and JLA. It features the I AM SNOWBOARDING art that is a tribute to Jeff Anderson. I had seen some of the art from the asymbol gallery party in Whistler during Telus last year and definitely rad to see it come to life in a jibable form. Plus you can ride through and actually check out the art. [singlepic id=10441 w=500 h=281 float=] Adina reading the art information next to the box [singlepic id=10439 w=500 h=281 float=] I wasn’t sure what to expect with the number of features but the rad thing was the variety of features from beginner to expert park riders. I […]
