The sunny weather returned to Mammoth just in time for the weekend! I put in a couple hours of work but then headed out to enjoy some laps in the sunshine and help with the latest webvideo filming. The mountain was so warm and beautiful but mostly warm. On the way up checked out the Stomping Grounds park in full effect with pipe and jump airbags set up for skiers and riders. [singlepic id=10501 w=500 h=281 float=] We headed over to Eagle Lodge area to get in some groomers for a mammoth video. Ashley took the camera and snapped this scenic shot of me on the mountain.
The morning was spent getting in some turns with the skier at Mammoth. His second day on the slopes wasn’t as nice as the first, the weather had turned flat light and definitely feeling the rough hits from the day before. We ended up lapping through the windy Main Park, windy South Park and settled on a couple easy laps through Forest Trail Park.
Since moving to Mammoth, I haven’t had too many Colorado people come out and visit. But I finally got one visitor who booked his ticket and made plans to leave Crested Butte to check out what Mammoth had to offer. I’d been looking forward to his visit for weeks and he finally arrived in town last night. I call him the skier. We have history and both love the mountain. The Skier at Mammoth [singlepic id=10492 w=500 h=281 float=] It ended up being the perfect day, rode together all day and showed him Mammoth’s parks. We arrived early on the mountain with barely anyone in Main Park or South Park which meant he got to see perfection at its best on the mountain. [singlepic id=10493 w=500 h=281 float=] Most of the day was spent lapping South Park with a much needed break for some beverages and then heading to Main Park. The setup right now is mock X-games so you can get your practice on or just try your hand at the same course the pros are on.
Today was the last day of the Burton Demo Tour at Mammoth Mountain but the perfect day for me to try out multiple boards that I wanted to get on. It was a cold start to the day with the winds picking up and hardpacked conditions on the mountain but was able to meet up with Sam and Pat from Red Bull for riding most of the day with them. We ended up lapping Forest Trail park most of the day. [singlepic id=10462 w=500 h=281 float=] The Burton Demo Tour, gotta love demo tours. They were packed during all the demo days, definitely a popular brand for Mammoth riders. I ended up taking out the Sherlock with cobrashark bindings, Joystick with Cartels and Blender with scribe bindings. Plus I rode the DC Devun on the way to and from the demo. [singlepic id=10463 w=500 h=281 float=] Sam stuck to his board and of course made it look good all day [singlepic id=10464 w=1000 h=563 float=] Pat got on the method, you know the 1,499.00 board. Of course when you get on the method, you have to do a method! So he pulled it off and we applauded. Pat was not […]

Burton arrived in Mammoth with the AM series and demo tour hitting the slopes this weekend. I was working today but managed to get out for a ride break so I could try out some new gear and ride with friends. To start out the day, I got set up with the Burton Nug with Malavita bindings and then switched up with Pat to ride his Pusher at the end of the shredfest. [singlepic id=10456 w=500 h=281 float=] Pat and Sam from Red Bull are in town for the weekend and fun to get laps with so we hit the slopes after grabbing up some Burton gear. We have a blast on the slopes, lots of fun and just shredding.
I really enjoy January since it’s full of tons of fun stuff that keeps your head spinning for weeks. Heading to Snowcial tomorrow, then back in town for the Burton Super Demo Tour, visitors in town and then SIA at the end of the month. The days of riding decrease this month so I’m enjoying it while I can. Bluebird days…feel so good after the big storms [singlepic id=10451 w=300 h=533 float=] I met up with Daniel today for a couple laps, towards the end we switched out gear so he could lap on the DC PBJ and I could ride his Rome Artifact. It was a good switch since I knew he’d love the PBJ. He tested it out on the jump line for it’s tweakability. [singlepic id=10452 w=1000 h=563 float=] I’m really stoked on P3 Snowboard Shop in town especially since they have demo boards which means trying out new gear when I can. I took out an older DC PBJ with camber (you know you gotta go back to camber every now and then) with this year’s Flux RK30 bindings. Look for those reviews soon! [singlepic id=10449 w=500 h=281 float=] I’ve been waiting patiently for the pipe […]

After weeks of storms, seeing the sun for more than 24 hours has been much-needed. It felt really good to get out on the slopes, take lunchtime laps and cruise around the mountain to just ride. I had been wanting to check out the Art Park since it opened but hadn’t had the chance to yet with all the powder turns overtaking any park runs. So Adina and I headed over to Canyon Lodge area to find the Art Park. [singlepic id=10438 w=500 h=281 float=] Mammoth opened the Art Park on Christmas in collaboration with AR4T and JLA. It features the I AM SNOWBOARDING art that is a tribute to Jeff Anderson. I had seen some of the art from the asymbol gallery party in Whistler during Telus last year and definitely rad to see it come to life in a jibable form. Plus you can ride through and actually check out the art. It was a split decision but we headed to the backside to get in our lunch turns. Just in time for chair #14 opening which had a good line up going but it was worth the wait. [singlepic id=10417 w=300 h=398 float=] We received a couple feet of new snow which meant some tricky spots where you needed tracks to get out and lots of speed. Our goal was to hit up the hemlocks which is through the backcountry gate and a hike up to drop in. The front porch and walkway this morning [singlepic id=10412 w=500 h=281 float=] I got to work early which is perfect for powder days cause it means early morning laps. The lifts were slow to get up due to weather but I figured I’d find someone to ride with before I headed out.
It’s the busy time when resort towns are packed with vacationers that help fund our towns and mountains. Usually I stay off the mountain this week since it’s so busy but today I was feeling the itch, I just needed to get out onto the snow to make a couple turns. We’re getting hit with another snowstorm, this one could deliver up to 2 feet of fresh snow tonight but today it meant winds, low visibility and some new snow on the runs. [singlepic id=10410 w=500 h=281 float=] Most people would love to have a ton of boards but I’m the opposite, it’s a hassle to have more boards than I need. This summer at Hood was a good example of why I had too many boards and the end result was I left three of them at Windells Camp without even realizing it. It took about two months to remember I owned them and wondered where they were. Luckily my friend Lisa is at Windells Academy so she found them, kept one (per my guidelines), shipped one to a friend and shipped the other to me. The other was the Never Summer Infinity that I’d been meaning to ride […]
