It feels good to be out on the mountain. Sunny slushy turns that make you happy even if you are just riding by yourself for a bit. I headed out to help on chair #3 again, shadowing for the afternoon and getting in an occasional turn or three while doing it. [singlepic id=11999 w=300 h=533 float=] I had talked with Sean earlier this winter about trying out a DWD board and we finally got it to work out, he shipped out the board last week and I got it just in time for late season riding. It has quite an interesting graphic on it but I really like it, haha. [singlepic id=11998 w=500 h=281 float=] Forest Trail Park is still up and running but you have to take into account the super slow dirt coverage and wax your board more often.

The mountain is in amazing condition for the end of June. We finally got the heat wave and sunny skies but it’s a reminder of how quickly the snow melts when it finally does switch to summer. I headed out to the slopes to help with chair #3 operations, it’s been fun to be a liftie some days of the week since I can get laps in during my shadowing time. I ended up taking out the Flow Infinity 159 for reviews, each board is getting a couple days of ride time before the season ends. The 159cm is on the longer size range than what I’d normally ride right now but it’s treated me good for hauling and stability on the mountain. I watched Daniel hit the big spring jump and snapped this shot of him. I ended up watching Pat Reddy stomp a backside 10 double cork from the bottom of the chair! He had been working on it all day and was almost landing it, finally it came together and he perfected it at the end of the day.

After a weekend in warm temperatures in San Jose, being back in the mountains was a good feeling. But the warm temps were also in Mammoth and the mountain was noticeably browner in spots. Most of the terrain is very much white but you start to see the dirt patches sticking out on lower mountain. I ended up helping out at chair #3 getting my laps in when I could. I watched Daniel and Jeremy hit the spring jump just below the pipe but no pics since my camera died soon after the first one. It was a good day to just enjoy the sun, get in some slushy turns before going back into work.

It’s June 15 and I’m still walking out on the snow to go snowboarding. That’s pretty rad considering most resorts have closed for the season or aren’t open daily. Last summer I was riding Timberline and now I’m at Mammoth enjoying the summer conditions. But it’s also a reminder that the season will end on July 4 and when it does, instead of seeking year round snow…I’ll be taking a break to get into mountain biking and enjoy a late summer. Snow conditions were perfect when we headed out, the pipe was softening up and most of the snow was soft but not slushy yet. It was good turns on the mountain. I took out the Flow Quantum for the day. The guys at Flow were kind enough to leave a board bag of 2012 boards for me to try out this month and I’m stoked to be able to ride a ton of Flow boards for review. Dan took this photo of me freeriding down from the park to Chair #1 on the Quantum. I took it through the pipe and Forest Trail parks today, just playing on the jump line with it. It’ll be tested out more days […]

Most Mondays I never get out onto the slopes but when I shadow the lifts, it means a couple laps to myself for an afternoon of helping out. Today was that day, getting turns on chair #3 before heading to chair #23 for the afternoon. Amazing how much the snow has started to melt since the sunny spring days have arrived. It’s still good but noticeably disappearing. Most of this year my powder board has been the NS Raptor. But I received a softer flex version from the factory which meant I couldn’t review it (because it wasn’t what was production). I rode it some amazing days and really grew love for the board over time. Well last week, NS sent out the Infinity and Raptor so I could review them. I was stoked to see the Raptor in the box because finally I could get a feel for the different flex and get a real review out of the board. Today was the first day I rode it and I can’t wait to write about it!

It’s officially my 28th birthday! For the second time in my life, I spent the day snowboarding. Luckily for me, my birthday was good because of one person. He spent the time on the mountain with me, bought me lunch and coffee, brought home a cake and decorated it and then took me to a movie. Because of him, I had a great birthday. The mountain portion was just another day, more turns and I would have liked it to be better, but it is what it is. It was fun seeing the snake run start to evolve below chair #1 in the snow. Everyone takes the same turns and builds up the course better and better each day. Crazy how fast it grows and how much fun it is!

When it comes to snowboarding for Mammoth Mountain, I will always offer my services. Mostly because it’s fun to get out on the hill and get to help out when they need snowboarders to film for uplinks and videos. This morning, we were getting footage of our amazing spring conditions to send out. I headed up with filmer Amanda and PR Dan to be the models on the mountain. The first laps were just fun, warming up while Amanda shot scenic stuff. The parks were in good shape but still firm this morning. By 10am they soften up a bit with the warmer temps now. Today I was riding the 2012 YES Big City. JJ Jose asked for a review on twitter so I got in touch with Chad at YES to see if there was a possibility to borrow the board for review this month. The board arrived last week and will get a review. Since we ended up getting footage for the uplinks, Amanda let me have the footage so here’s a video of us cruising the groomers in the morning. This winter I’ve spent time playing in Forest Trail park just having fun on the line of […]

Perfect day for ride lunch laps at Mammoth. I love days like this because I just grab the board, gear up and hit the mountain with the ipod (which of course dies about 10 minutes into riding). Luckily, it didn’t faze me and I just lapped pipe and park to have fun. Today I tested the Flow Era on the mountain and snapped this shot to show the snow conditions on the board. Up top I got hardpacked groomers and down in the park, I got soft slush. The spring pipe is finally up. It was interesting to go from the Main Park pipe which was super wide and soft to the narrow, short and hardpacked spring pipe. I thought to myself that I was really riding a taco and last week I was riding an enchilada. Somehow it worked in my head when I pictured it.

Finally spring arrived…even though it’s almost summer in Mammoth! The sun came out, warmer temps were on the mountain and the snow got softer. The mountain’s coverage is exceptional for a resort in June, our snow base is still 9-17 feet in spots which means good luck finding dirt patches on the mountain. I headed out for a couple laps before and during my shadow shift at chair #23.
