You know it’s a good day when the season finally kicks off at your home mountain. It means first turns, powder turns and tons of fun ahead. I was really forward to today, it was finally my mountain that was opening up for the season. After the last snowfall and snowmaking, there was more than enough snow to open on our planned Opening Day. I was up bright and early to help out with the marketing team and be a part of the Opening Day experience. When I arrived at the mountain at 6:30am, there were a couple people near the lift and by the time I went outside at 7:30am, there was a good line-up of people waiting for their chance to be one of the first down Mammoth this season. Joani was on the television doing live broadcasts with news channels (pretty cool to walk inside and watch her on tv). Conditions were good. It was early when I got up on the mountain so definitely hardpacked corduroy but I didn’t encounter any rocks or dirt while riding. There’s definitely a need for more snow to fill in spots on the runs that weren’t operating but we’ve got […]

A couple years ago, I would have chosen snowboarding over my family. I was younger and needed the freedom to be away, make my own decisions and follow my own path. As I’ve grown older and experienced the freedom, it has pushed me closer to my family and was part of the reason I was ready to move to California. Now within a couple hours of driving I can spend the holidays with them or just a weekend every now and then. A couple months ago I was told that my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary would be a family gathering and I needed to be there. The downside was their anniversary fell on Mammoth’s Opening Weekend. Instead of the weekend snowboarding, partying and working – I’ll be spending it with both sets of parents, grandparents, sibling, cousins and more. I’m making sure to shred along the way to Northern California but I’m looking forward to being there for an important event. I will be in Mammoth for Opening Day today to document the experience, update Mammoth social media and do my normal job of copywriting throughout the day. If you are on the mountain, say hi and give me a […]

After being jealous of the early season in Colorado the past couple weeks, it’s finally time for Mammoth to open for the 2011/12 season. Opening Day is this Thursday, November 10. It’s my second season here in California so definitely looking forward to the slopes opening nearby and being able to ride around the state this winter. I’ll be here for Opening Day but skipping out on the opening weekend festivities to spend time in Tahoe and visit family in Northern California. If you are near Mammoth for Opening Weekend, here’s the line-up of events for this weekend.
I moved here almost two months ago and now that winter has finally arrived, it’s time to bring out that waxed up rock board and hit the slopes today! Mammoth’s been snowmaking to get the base solid for this season but the latest snowfall has definitely helped open more terrain up. It’ll be great to see the Unbound Park start off the season today. So happy the season is here and it’s only a 5 minute drive to snowboard! I work in Mammoth’s marketing department so I’ll be on the snow this morning helping open up the mountain and spread the social media word out to the masses. Most of my morning will be on the snow, talking and taking photos with the skiers & riders out enjoying the first turns of the season at Mammoth. Once I get home, I’ll be able to put up my own post on the riding report of the day…until then, I’ll just keep having a big smile on my face!

There’s only a couple days left until Mammoth opens for the 10-11 season and just enough time for the snow to arrive. Luckily its begun and now Mammoth is covered in a beautiful white layer! It’s my first season here in Mammoth so I’m really ready for the fun to begin. We’re set to open on Thursday with a ton of events in Mammoth which means updating the blog more frequently and showcasing Mammoth life including all of the fun of snowboarding. So happy the season is here! Wondering who is coming up for the opening weekend festivities? Who usually rides Mammoth and what are you excited about this season?
