After being jealous of the early season in Colorado the past couple weeks, it’s finally time for Mammoth to open for the 2011/12 season. Opening Day is this Thursday, November 10. It’s my second season here in California so definitely looking forward to the slopes opening nearby and being able to ride around the state this winter. I’ll be here for Opening Day but skipping out on the opening weekend festivities to spend time in Tahoe and visit family in Northern California. If you are near Mammoth for Opening Weekend, here’s the line-up of events for this weekend.
Today was rough after yesterday’s riding and partying but I managed to crawl out of bed, hit up the bagel co for breakfast and get to the mountain for some shred time. Today was a chill day on the slopes, just cruised with co-workers and then chatted on the sundeck to end out the day. I finally hit up some park features so that was the best of the day progress. [singlepic id=10168 w=800 h=256 float=] It’s been bluebird and hardpacked on the mountain since opening day but still some spots with leftover pow from the storm (very little). I headed up with Dan for a couple laps in the afternoon before calling it a day and succumbing to bloody mary beers. [singlepic id=10169 w=500 h=281 float=] Me on the mountain rocking the helmet and busting out the new spy bias goggles to try out [singlepic id=10170 w=300 h=533 float=] Ended the day on the sundeck with James Sullivan, Pat Stahl and the Fuel TV crew. It was fun catching up, meeting new people (and twitter people) and just enjoying the sunshine. Today was such a low key day that I didn’t take as many shots, just cruised and tried […]

From the snowboarding to the parties to the premieres to the concert…there was something for everyone in Mammoth on Saturday. It was the day that proved to me, how rad Mammoth can be. Of course like any great day, it started with snowboarding. I celebrated Friday night at Hyde for the Unbound Magazine Launch party but made sure to collect myself bright and early for a fun day of snowboarding. This winter I have a part time roommate, Matt from Arbor who will be up on weekends to ride. I met Matt when I visited Arbor and it’s rad to have him staying with me throughout the winter. He came in last night and we hit up the mountain today for the first turns of the day. [singlepic id=10158 w=500 h=281 float=] After a stop in to get water and hydrate up for the day, I ran into Cope on the sundeck. I met Cope this summer when the Neff RV came to Windells Camp so it was rad to run into him and his friends. I ended up taking a break to hang out with them and then we lapped the rest of the day together.
Now that Mammoth is open and I work right on the mountain, it means being able to ride midweek for a ride/lunch break. Today I headed up alone and just wanted to cruise/lap the groomers to try out the new Rome Agent Rocker for a couple turns. Huge thanks to Joel/Graham for letting me borrow the board to try out. California so far reminds me of the best parks of Colorado: Bluebird skies and snow! [singlepic id=10153 w=600 h=388 float=] Earlier in the day, Joel dropped off the Rome Agent Rocker for me to borrow until they need it back. It’s fun to be back on snow, being able to ride new boards and review them again. [singlepic id=10152 w=600 h=388 float=] I mostly just cruised around today, riding different chairlifts and new runs to check out the mountain. I wore my helmet of course and there’s plenty of rocks out so it’s a wise choice to put a lid on it. [singlepic id=10154 w=300 h=533 float=] Conditions were snowpacked and icy in spots. I didn’t get up till 2pm so the sun was going down which meant colder temps and some icy spots. Compared to yesterday there’s some worn […]
