It’s closing weekend here in Steamboat and while tomorrow might be the last day for snowboarding, today was my last day at Steamboat since i’m going to skip out on tomorrow’s festivities to ride Breckenridge for a demo day. The sky was blue most of the day, warm temps on the mountain and slushy soft snow conditions which meant an ideal day for lapping park with friends. I got my morning coffee, headed to the base and met up with Chris, Mandy, Sonny and Sean to start off the day. Chris’ tailblock in the pipe [singlepic id=8687 w=300 h=400 float=] We started off in the Rabbit Ears Park but since snow was so slow, we headed into Bashor/Maverick’s Terrain Park so we could use the chairlift there without having to deal with slow cat tracks. Plus the Rabbit Ears park was dying a fast death in the box line (it’s that tilted as it looks). [singlepic id=8686 w=400 h=300 float=] Craig’s nose grab in Rabbit Ears Terrain Park [singlepic id=8690 w=400 h=300 float=] I took a couple laps through the pipe and then got some video and photos of everyone hitting the jump line in Maverick’s. Here’s the video of […]

I’ve decided that I’m going to ride every day until Steamboat closes on April 11th because I have no reason not to and because there’s 12 days left in the season. Usually I might skip a day or two during the week to get errands done in town but I’m dedicated to stomping some end of season tricks. This is definitely a year for my park progression which makes me happy that I’ve been pushing myself in an area where I easily could have ignored it and kept freeriding. [singlepic id=8524 w=400 h=300 float=] The morning was really hardpacked, crusty snow but by 10am it was softening up very quickly and turned to slush by 11am. It made the park riding fun but a lot slower to get onto features. I was able to take laps with Sonny, Molly and Tony for most of the day since they weren’t teaching. Sonny’s nosepress on the A-frame rail [singlepic id=8525 w=400 h=300 float=] Props to Molly today for hitting 3 new features in the large park…she rallied hard! Here’s her crooked nosepress on the flat down flat down box. [singlepic id=8521 w=400 h=300 float=] Sonny airing onto the A-frame rail [singlepic id=8522 […]

This week was definitely working for the weekend and when the weekend arrived, it was much-needed time to shred! With Mike in town we were finally able to take laps together and since he spent the last two days freeriding the mountain, we opted for a park day today. Say hi to Mike…he’s the behind the scenes help [singlepic id=7447 w=400 h=300 float=] We ended up lapping Maverick’s pipe or Rabbit Ears Park and then hitting up the Lil’ Rodeo smaller park on the way down to Christie chairlift. With the mountain busy because of MLK weekend, lapping park wasn’t that busy and a perfect day to work on the park/pipe skills. [singlepic id=7448 w=400 h=300 float=] I had some good runs and bad runs today, ended up slamming off the tire bonk but it was fun trying and definitely my first hard slam this season…of course it was to my stomach not my head. I worked on my switch riding outside of the park and especially riding switch on cat tracks. But pipe felt better when I slowed down and really concentrated on my heelside wall and Lil’ Rodeo is always fun for riding through.
Mike arrived in town yesterday so he hit up the slopes today but by the time I made it out for my ride break it was the end of the day for him so we missed making turns together. I ended up lapping park/superpipe with Tracy and Becca for the afternoon…perfect girls day to shred and have fun. [singlepic id=7437 w=400 h=300 float=] I’ve been working at trying to air out of the pipe, at Windell’s over the summer I had it but now back in Steamboat I almost have it. I still just love riding halfpipe and it was great to make laps with the girls who are up for also riding halfpipe. Today Larry Pierce was up taking photos and he got a shot of me in the pipe which is rad, I won’t ever go as big as other riders but I’m stoked! I’m still riding the sierrascope to get the review done for it before I make the switch to my lotus. [singlepic id=7439 w=400 h=300 float=] During the not-so-great snow year’s, having a good park matters. This is that year here in Steamboat, it’s not a powder year so far and we’re definitely shredding […]
