Location: Keystone, Colorado Snow Conditions: Overcast with hardpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the MTNOPS Burden with Union Forces and my Rome Vamps size 8. First Impression: I know the guys that designed the board and I can definitely guess how it’s gonna ride…fast, aggressive and durable. Size: 155cm Weight: average Flex: Stiffer flex longitudinally and torsionally making it more of a charging board for aggressive riders. I definitely didn’t want to get lazy on this board and had to adjust my riding to Turning: Since it was torsionally and longitudinally stiffer, it held really long arc’d out turns the best. Longer S turns you could really initiate and feel the board hold a carve the entire way through. Stable: It was a very stable ride, this board is meant for charging and it holds an edge very well over longer spread out turns. I spent the morning with it on groomed runs but tried to ride through some chops and sharp turns and didn’t notice any chatter or felt out of control on it. I also made sure I was on my riding game, that I didn’t get lazy with this board either. Pop: I didn’t play around with the […]

Late last season I had a phone call with Mark Sullivan about a new website called MTNOPS that would be a new snowboard community launching products slowly into the market. I got on board with the crew and now months later, they debuted at SIA with American made products. With hearts in the backcountry and driven by snowboarding powder lines, they have created products with their brand right here in the United States. The community came first, then came the products that were useful for any rider. The Riders Journal, safety cards, limited number of hats. They came slowly but offered up something new that wasn’t following the fads. At SIA, MTNOPS came out with 3 snowboards that each tell a story, outerwear that will keep you warm and layers to keep you breathable. The t-shirts, hats and hoodies feature artwork based around the mountains. The riding journal and safety cards are must have’s for the mountain, easy to put in your pocket and could save your life. MTNOPS made in the US: Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, California, Colorado, Montana, Georgia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey and South Carolina. Even the catalog was made in the US. The […]

Every year there are fewer American made snowboard products but for 2009-2010 MTNOPS is launching their products straight out of the United States. Here’s the latest from Mark Sullivan on the upcoming line, “The jacket featured in this promo is called the Merican – and we will show the only american made gear like this at the show (SIA). We also have a womens version as well called the Valkyrie.” Stay tuned for more as SIA is quickly approaching. In September I went through my closet to see where my snowboard products were made, only MTNOPS and Never Summer were made in the United States. Check out your labels to see what countries you support…it might surprise you.

Hailey, ID – December 8, 2008 – MTNOPS is proud to announce a partnership with Arctic Cat Snowmobiles. This partnership allows MTNOPS the ability to have the best tools in the industry to access powder to shred. Arctic Cat is the obvious choice for snowboarders on the mission of seeking access to the backcountry. Their M8 Sno Pro model has been the snowmobile of choice for those wanting a light, powerful, and reliable snowmobile. The nimble M chassis has been the one to beat in the pow since it was introduced in 2005. Each year it has been refined to become the kingof backcountry snowmobiles. “We are really excited to work with Arctic Cat,” says MTNOPS president Mark Sullivan, “They have really upped the ante for all sled makers in terms of creating new benchmarks for mountain performance. Their constant improvement approach to development makes the new M8 a logical choice for snowmoboarding and a great fit for MTNOPS.”MTNOPS brand manager Eric Pearson says, “I have been riding Arctic Cat sleds for years because they have been the first sled company to understand that snowboarders have the same passion as mountain riding sledheads, we all dream of that perfect day […]

Hailey, ID – November 21, 2008 – MTNOPS is proud to introduce the latest addition to its technological arsenal –GPS integration. Now you can ride with a GPS unit or GPS enabled cel phone that outputs a .gpx file and view and share your day on the hill in a new way. According to technology developer JP Stoermer, “Making a GPS map of your riding is as simple as uploading an image. Export a .gpx file, upload and your map is created. This is the first step in MTNOPS GPS/rider integration.”When activated, consumer GPS units record a location every second. This second by second account of your position tells you where you went, when you stopped, for how long, and how much vertical you covered. “This technology has the potential to change the way riders look at and record their riding experiences. I know it will change the way that I snowboard forever. Now I can find all of those spots that I happen across when riding a new hill,” says Mark Sullivan, MTNOPS CEO. Compatible units output .gpx universal GPS file format and are available in price ranges from $50 and up. After riding, simply download the file created […]
