Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked snow conditions that softened up during the day with bluebird skies. Setup: I rode the Never Summer Evo with Union Force bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: The evo is still that board I enjoy riding and getting back on for a good all around ride. Weight: average Flex: In 09-10 the evo was softened up a bit and in 10-11 it keeps the same flex as 09-10 which I’ve grown used to in the last year. The softer flex makes it the more park boards it’s meant to be, softer flex between the bindings and torsionally softer so a more easy forgiving ride on the mountain. The stiffer flex underfoot helps handle the charging moments or freeriding. The evo features RC Technology so it’s a mix of rocker and camber, rocker between the feet and camber just outside of the bindings helps give the evo a more stable feeling but also the playfulness of a rocker board. For 10-11 the RC tech has some changes with a flat area outside of the camber to the tail but it doesn’t change the ride, keeps with the contact points […]

Location: Loveland/A-Basin/Breckenridge, Colorado Snow Conditions: A variety of conditions from fresh powder to spring slush. Setup: I rode the Never Summer Evo-R with Union Forces and my Rome Vamps size 8. First Impression: This isn’t the same evo-r as last year Size: 155cm Weight: average Flex: Compared to previous seasons of the evo-r, the flex has been softened up making it more of the park board people expect it to be. The softer flex is between the bindings, making it softer torsionally which makes it a lot more forgiving and easier to ride than in the past. I rode it at Loveland in some fresh powder where I noticed I needed to ride in the backseat more often than previously with my 08-09 evo-r. The reverse camber still helped in making it less of a backseat ride and still decent float…I didn’t sink. Turning: It was really easy to initiate turns with the evo-r, in fact sometimes a bit too easy to get into a hard carve than I expected. In softer snow, I’ve found the board just laying into a carve without me meaning to. Overall it handled the short radius turns easily when you want quick response but […]

So when I was leaving town on Friday…I got the call from work that a package from Seattle arrived. Well that could really mean only one thing, my new Union Contact bindings. So I quickly stopped by, grabbed them and then since I was traveling to summit…had to wait 2 days before getting them out, adjusting them and mounting them to my snowboard. Open the box and beautiful sounds come out…ok well just the sound of me going “oohhh” and “awwww” Anytime I get anything now…I poke around and check it out. This box has many uses, rad! So I picked up the Union Contact bindings in M/L which actually fit my Vans Omni size 8’s very good in terms of width…no gaps. I had to adjust the straps to get them dialed to my boots and that didn’t take too long. Since I should be getting new Vans boots later this month…I’ll have to make sure they fit the new pair. The contacts will be my freestyle bindings switching between the evo and another board on the way. I’ll be getting a pair of Raiden women’s bindings that will be my freeride/powder bindings. This year is the first year […]
