Location: Keystone, CO Snow Conditions: Softpacked to hardpacked conditions, powder conditions from new snow to older snow. Setup: I rode the Never Summer Lotus with Burton Escapade bindings and Ride Cadence Focus boots. Size: 157 First Impression: The Lotus continues to be Never Summer’s women’s freeriding/charging snowboard. Weight: Average. Flex: Based off the men’s Premier F1, the Lotus gives women a board that is stiffer, more charging and built for freeriding. Overall, it’s a stiffer flex underfoot with a bit softer torsional flex between the bindings. The nose is softer to handle powder and the board has a stiffer tail for more control. The board has a good amount of dampening to help absorb the bumps. Never Summer’s RC technology features rocker between the feet and camber outside the bindings. Turning: One of the best perks of the Lotus is the quick handling and engagement into turns despite the stiffer flex. You can get the board into short radius turns quickly and still have good stiffer flex to handle the longer drawn out S turns. Regardless you can power through turns. Stable: For the current conditions, the lotus has ridden a decent amount of hardpacked/icy conditions and it’s still holding […]

Setup: I rode the Never Summer Lotus with my Union Team bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 157cm. First Impression: Rides like the same board as last year, dominant freeride board for women. Weight: average. Flex: The Lotus is the women’s freeride board in the Never Summer lineup, stiffer than the infinity with a whole lot more dampness in the board. It’s softer than the men’s version, the Premier F1. The softer nose gives it more float in powder and a stiffer tail for control on the mountain. The carbon gives most of the stiffer flex underfoot for a more stable ride and you have good torsional flex so turns aren’t as difficult to engage. The dampening in the board helps absorb any rough terrain on the mountain. Never Summer’s RC technology features rocker between the feet and camber outside the bindings. Turning: The Lotus delivers with quick response for the mountain. It’s easy to engage into turns and the flex delivers control and stability on the mountain. The sidecut allows for quick turns for […]

Location: Steamboat, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked snow to powder conditions to bluebird park laps. Setup: I rode the Never Summer Lotus with Union bastardized bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 157cm. First Impression: Since my last Lotus was stolen, getting this one was a sigh of relief since I’d been missing that board that could handle my 80% freeride/powder, 10% park, 10% pipe. Weight: average to a little heavier than average. Flex: The lotus is the women’s premier, so it’s noticeably softer and a bit more forgiving than the men’s version. It has a softer nose making it float and stiffer tail for powder. Between the feet you have some carbon to help make the ride stable but also give it good torsional flex when you want quick response edge to edge and enough stability when charging. The dampening in the board helps absorb any rough terrain you encounter. Never Summer’s RC technology features rocker between the feet and camber outside the bindings with a flat section that’s new for 10-11. I didn’t notice a difference in how it rides compared to previous years. Turning: You get really quick edge to edge and response from the lotus, it’s […]

I love the days when I get the phone call from a friend saying it’s time to shred together. Today was that day, got the call from Philip and twenty minutes later we were hitting the slopes for my ride break. [singlepic id=7968 w=400 h=300 float=] Steamboat received a couple new inches which meant there was some good powder in the trees if you were willing to find it. The trees were beautiful today, we mostly stuck to the clock area and found spots where barely anyone had ridden. It was definitely off the beaten path for going into new trees today on each run. [singlepic id=7967 w=400 h=300 float=] Philip getting some pow in the trees [singlepic id=7969 w=400 h=300 float=] Philip was kind enough to take my camera and get some video of me riding in the trees, it’s short and sweet but fun! Powder in the trees from Shayboarder on Vimeo. Surprisingly some of the best most untouched snow was in the trees on lower mountain below the gondola, we found that out as we hit up the trees on the way down the mountain to end the ride break of fun. It’s still snowing so looks […]

2008-2009 Never Summer Lotus Location: Majority of time at Steamboat, Colorado as well as other mountains over Colorado. I’ve had the Lotus in my possession since early January and it is my main snowboard. Snow Conditions: Basically every condition possible this winter: Slush, hard packed, ice, bumps, groomed runs, powder runs, light powder, heavy powder. Setup: I’ve been riding the Never Summer Lotus with both sets of my Rome Madison bindings (06-07 & 07-08) and my Vans Omni Focus boots. First Impression: Honestly I’ve been waiting for this board when I first heard about it last season that NS was going to release a women’s premier. I have wanted to ride it since then and so by the time I got on snow with it…I was stoked from day 1. The board is breathtaking in person, I don’t pay too much attention to graphics (hence why I don’t review graphics) but it’s a beautifully made snowboard. It rides as good as it looks. Size: 157cm Weight: Average women’s weight. Flex: I consider the flex in between the old premier and the new premier F1. It is a softer flex than the men’s versions. But it has a multiflex camber making […]
