Location: Steamboat, Colorado Snow Conditions: Majority of powder days with the Premier, from 13+ inches of powder to freshly groomed groomers after the snow storm. Setup: I rode the Never Summer Premier F1-R with Union Forces/Rome Shifts and my Rome Vamps size 8. First Impression: The Premier F1-R makes the pow just that much better. Size: 157cm Weight: Average Flex: The premier is definitely a stiffer flex than the lotus and with the carbon fiber V’s in the nose and tail gives it the stable ride that it has become. Between the binding it’s a tad softer which makes it torsionally easier to flex than previous years. Softer nose for float, stiffer tail…it’s a multi flex variety going on with the premier but it suits the ride it has become. RC Technology if you aren’t familiar with it, features rocker between the bindings and then camber outside of the bindings. Turning: Despite the wider waist with than I need, I still get quick response from edge to edge on the premier ever since I stepped on it and with the R now added to the name, the reverse camber/camber still allows it to be a freeride board without being washy […]

Location: Loveland/A-Basin/Breckenridge, Colorado Snow Conditions: A variety of conditions from fresh powder to spring slush. Setup: I rode the Never Summer Evo-R with Union Forces and my Rome Vamps size 8. First Impression: This isn’t the same evo-r as last year Size: 155cm Weight: average Flex: Compared to previous seasons of the evo-r, the flex has been softened up making it more of the park board people expect it to be. The softer flex is between the bindings, making it softer torsionally which makes it a lot more forgiving and easier to ride than in the past. I rode it at Loveland in some fresh powder where I noticed I needed to ride in the backseat more often than previously with my 08-09 evo-r. The reverse camber still helped in making it less of a backseat ride and still decent float…I didn’t sink. Turning: It was really easy to initiate turns with the evo-r, in fact sometimes a bit too easy to get into a hard carve than I expected. In softer snow, I’ve found the board just laying into a carve without me meaning to. Overall it handled the short radius turns easily when you want quick response but […]

Update 5/5/09: Never Summer Catalog images have been added to the very bottom of this post. Never Summer walked away from the 2008 show ready to make and create their own version of the reverse camber that was very clearly gaining momentum. Behind the scene, Never Summer staff, team riders, product testers and shop kids were given boards to ride and try out. . . to determine if these reverse cambers were worth putting out and the response was very clear. Put in the reverse camber. As the 08-09 season approached, 5 models were introduced that were strictly reverse camber. The response from the people who had rode them, was overwhelming and Never Summer went full force into reverse cambers. Whether it was people that wanted Never Summer’s based on their reputation and durability or their first time owning them, the reverse cambers were very popular at demos and on the salesfloor. Now for 2009-2010, every snowboard has reverse camber except for the Titans. The freeride specific models continue to be more freeride specific with reverse camber. The two straight up park boards, Pandora-R and Circuit-R will be the only boards with a 1 year warranty, everything else follows Never […]
