Location: Keystone, CO Snow Conditions: Softpacked to hardpacked conditions, powder conditions from new snow to older snow. Setup: I rode the Never Summer Lotus with Burton Escapade bindings and Ride Cadence Focus boots. Size: 157 First Impression: The Lotus continues to be Never Summer’s women’s freeriding/charging snowboard. Weight: Average. Flex: Based off the men’s Premier F1, the Lotus gives women a board that is stiffer, more charging and built for freeriding. Overall, it’s a stiffer flex underfoot with a bit softer torsional flex between the bindings. The nose is softer to handle powder and the board has a stiffer tail for more control. The board has a good amount of dampening to help absorb the bumps. Never Summer’s RC technology features rocker between the feet and camber outside the bindings. Turning: One of the best perks of the Lotus is the quick handling and engagement into turns despite the stiffer flex. You can get the board into short radius turns quickly and still have good stiffer flex to handle the longer drawn out S turns. Regardless you can power through turns. Stable: For the current conditions, the lotus has ridden a decent amount of hardpacked/icy conditions and it’s still holding […]

Location: Keystone, CO Snow Conditions: Softpacked corduroy to hard packed night riding. Setup: I rode the Never Summer Pandora with Burton Escapade bindings and Ride Cadence Focus boots. Size: 149 First Impression: The Pandora carries on the freestyle flare of the evo but built for women. Weight: Average. Flex: The Pandora is on the softer side but it’s a park board meant to be more playful. The softer flex is between the bindings with a torsional softness to it. It makes it really quick response torsionally. Then underfoot there is a stiffer flex to help with freeriding moments and landings. The Pandora features RC Technology which is a mix of rocker and camber, rocker between the feet and camber just outside both of the bindings. Turning: The Pandora is a really quick snappy board on edge. I even took a picture of my carves on corduroy to show just how responsive the board can be with shorter turns. The longer radius turns weren’t as stable but I also take into account the smaller size board. Stable: The softer freestyle flex of the Pandora holds up for riding the mountain but it’s not as stable as the Infinity or Lotus. It […]

Location: Stevens Pass, WA Snow Conditions: Softpacked to fresh powder. Setup: I rode the Never Summer Cobra with Union Atlas Team bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 155 First Impression: New design and quick mountain handling give the Cobra a place among Never Summer boards. Weight: Average. Flex: The Cobra is built for all mountain so it’s right in the middle of the flex/dampening scale alongside the SL/Proto. In terms of handling, it feels and rides stiffer than the Proto and more similar to the SL with a tweaked shape. Stiffer flex underfoot that helps with stability, mid range on the longitudinal flex and handing, softer torsional flex between the bindings. It’s quick and responsive in nature but not overally stiff or soft. The Cobra features RC Technology which is a mix of rocker and camber, rocker between the feet and camber just outside both of the bindings. Turning: The Cobra gives you response and ease of turning, just like the Proto. The shorter turns were really quick to engage and it made riding in trees a blast because you didn’t have to question the boards handling. Setup: I rode the Never Summer SL with Union Force bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 155 cm First Impression: The SL gets some new upgrades but it’s still that all mountain board it was built to be. Weight: Lighter than average. Flex: Smack in the middle, it’s a five on the scale and rides like a five on the scale. Even with the new upgrades, the board hasn’t changed in terms of the style and capability. It’s still middle of the road, torsionally softer for quickness and longitudinally a good consistent middle of the road flex. The 12-13 SL is lighter and has more dampening and pop added to it. It’s not a huge difference except for the lightening of the board. The SL has RC Technology which is a mix of rocker and camber, rocker between the feet and camber just outside both of the bindings.
Colorado has played a pivotal role in snowboarding. There is so much history of snowboard production, riding and resorts in this area that it was only a matter of time before it was collected and shown to the masses. Thanks to Trent Bush, David Allen and Kurt Olesek there is finally a place in the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Museum for the history of snowboarding. Tonight was the Grand Opening at the museum in Vail and well worth a seven hour drive from Utah to make it in time for the gathering of friends, industry and media to see a private glimpse. Upon arrival, the snowboard portion was packed with people. The amazement of the progressiong of snowboarding and the history told in words and photos. Local brands like Twist, Solid, Never Summer and many more were shown on the walls with first productions. Never Summer’s history in Colorado was clear with a showcase of their first production board and the 20th anniversary model. Owner Tracey Canaday showing his skills on camera with the photo. Snowboard bindings have also changed over time. Imagine riding in these to get down the mountain. Now we have our pick of flex, response, manuevability […]

Setup: I rode the Never Summer Premier F1 with my Union Team bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 159cm. First Impression: The Premier has always been that board for freeriders to the core. Weight: Average. Flex: The Premier F1 is on the stiffer side for flex and comparable to the Raptor in the line-up. It’s a tad softer on the nose, with a stiffer powerful tail that delivers up more response from the tail end of the board. Between the bindings there’s a softer torsional flex so it still delivers up response from edge to edge. It’s pretty good on the dampening, most stuff you throw its way it won’t let you get bumped around. The Premier F1 features RC technology which is reverse camber, rocker and camber, rocker between the feet and camber just outside of the bindings. Turning: There are many types of turns a board can make depending on the sidecut and effective edge. While the Raptor gives you quick aggressive turns that are less forgiving, the Premier F1 is the board that delivers a consistent carve with no surprises […]

Weight: Lighter than average.
