This winter has been a easy travel winter with the lack of snow, so the cheaper flights out of Denver are much easier to get on. Luckily for me I timed it so I could get in some night riding at Keystone on the way to Denver and ride Summit County on the way back from Denver this Sunday. Once I got to summit, I made some calls to see who was up for night riding and Erin from Atomic was up for riding for the night. We’ve always hung out at industry demos but have never rode together so it was a good night to get that chance. Unfortunately we found out the park was closed once we got up and had to find ways to make the freeriding more fun each run we did. [singlepic id=7786 w=400 h=300 float=] Night riding is one of the things I miss most, it’s so much fun to leave work and hit the snow in the evening when the cold temperatures and darkness limit the number of people on the slopes. Most of the night riding was like this, fast, blurry and fun crazyness.
After a very fun and relaxing weekend in Silverton, I had to say goodbye and start the journey back to Steamboat. Luckily for me, I encountered no cops on the drive back and sped my way back to Summit County just in time for some afternoon shredding at Keystone. I made a couple calls on the drive and found one person who was up for a couple laps with me. Good ole Zac from Hybrid Sessions was up for the challenge and met me at the mountain. I haggardly got dressed in the parking lot and we made our way up the mountain just as the crowds were coming off the mountain. [singlepic id=7264 w=400 h=300 float=] All these photos are courtesy of my phone since I got dressed so quick I left a camera in the car. I’ll paint the picture for you though, it was cold and icy groomers. The park had a good collection of features but the 3 boxes that were “shay” level were closed off so we made a couple laps and called it a night just in time for him to drive to Denver and me to drive to Steamboat.
We hit up Keystone today with a super late start and had to deal with full parking lots, but we made it to the mountain, parked and were riding on a warm sunny day. About a 10 minute walk from where we parked or waiting in a line for the shuttle, we chose to walk to the mountain. Even though the parking lots were full, the park wasn’t too packed compared to other runs with tons of people on them. I made laps through the superpipe and through the mini-park with friends. K wanted to try out the horrorscope so him and Joel switched up Capita’s for a couple runs. I kept trying to lap the superpipe today, I tried to get a new grab in so at the end of the day I was trying to get it done. The grab was the tailfish, grabbing with my rear hand on the heel edge between my rear binding and tail of the board. We had a good crew for the day: K, Joel, Bru, Brantly and myself. We checked into our condo and then hit up the mountain for some late night riding again.

I was in Denver on friday to visit the Boa Headquarters (tour, video and write up coming soon!) and to stop by Never Summer to pick up a snowboard and check out the 09-10 line. I left Denver and headed to Breckenridge to spend the afternoon riding halfpipe before going to Keystone for night riding. Never Summer 2009-2010 Lotus It was a beautiful day at Breck for afternoon riding, bluebird with not many people on the mountain. I just lapped the superpipe. The Breckenridge superpipe is awesome, they take really good care of it and it shows. I rode up the chair with a girl and we ended up riding pipe together for the afternoon. On the last run, she took a bad drop into the pipe and ended up crashing pretty hard. I ended the day with her to make sure she could get down to the base fine since her wrists were hurting and she was dizzy. I met up with my buddy K after riding Breckenridge and we headed to Keystone to meet up with friends for night riding. This was my first time night riding in Colorado. When I lived in Washington I […]
