Here’s a glimpse at a couple of the pieces coming out for 10-11 from Nitro, I unfortunately didn’t get too many shots of the outerwear at the tradeshow.
Nitro’s been in the snowboard game for over 20 years with designs based around the influence of skateboarding and music within snowboarding. They continue to offer snowboards including their pro model series and pro one-off boards as well as music collaborations like the Swindle x Early Man and art influence boards like the Rook x Dennis McNett graphics. For technology in 10-11, Nitro offers a mix of options for riders. Their gullwing camber which gives the snowboards a skateboard like feel with loose trucks, zero camber combines the best of regular and negative camber and standard camber provides stability at high speeds. For park riders, they have railkiller edge with it’s unique edge profile and impact resistance of more than 200% compared to a standard edge and their scratch and rip base for showing off your rail skills with distinct colors from a second layer graphic. This is a sneak peak at some of the Nitro snowboard models (not all are shown). Nitro Rook Features: Powercore II, bi-lite laminate, ballistic impact panel, new pop band, dual degressive sidecut, profile tip, railkiller edge, sintered speed formula base, twin shape, zero camber, park flex, mid-wide. Sizes: 152, 154, 156, 158 [singlepic […]

Location: Loveland, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Nitro Rook with Raiden Eris bindings and Bonfire Geo boots. Size: 154cm. First Impression: A bit stiffer than I was expecting but good pop and all around seems like your typical park board. Weight: Average Flex: The rook was deceiving at first, it seemed like a stiff board and then once I got it riding it was stiffer underfoot to the nose and tail, but in between the bindings softer flex so really easy to maneuver and a more forgiving flex than I was expecting. The combination of stiffer nose/tail made it a bit more difficult to get some high press action going on. Turning: I found the really short radius quick turns were the best and most responsive with the easy quick edge to edge and the softer torsional flex. When I tried to hold the board into longer drawn out turns it wasn’t as fun and seemed to require more effort to remain stable through them. Stable: It was decent at higher speeds, not the most stable board I’ve ridden in that size but it didn’t buck me either. It handled shorter […]

Location: Keystone, Colorado Snow Conditions: Overcast with hardpacked groomers to a mixture of conditions. Setup: I rode the Nitro Carrara with Raiden Eris’ and my Rome Vamps size 8. First Impression: Another women’s board to add to the list of impressive women’s charging boards. Size: 153cm Weight: light Flex: The carrara is no a soft flexing board, it matches the name very well. This board is meant for speed, but still offers good handling. With a stiffer flex, it handles the mountain to the jump line, all made for a female rider who charges. Stiffer longitudinally, making it stable when charging but with some good torsional flex that allows it for it be easier to turn and maneuver quickly. Turning: Despite it being a more aggressive women’s freestyle board, it is still easy to initiate turns and as you progress into each turn, it then becomes aggressive into each turn picking up speed and letting you really finish out each turn as a carve. That’s the progressive sidecut really coming in and taking control. Stable: For the size I was riding, it was very impressive on the stability. It was a smaller size than I’d normally ride and I expected […]

If you get your hands on the 09-10 Nitro Catalog, you might find yourself thinking you are looking at a record album because of the shear size of it. The catalog is really looking at the visual liberation through the sound of snowboarding and would make a great coffee table book. With 20 years under their belt, they have become stronger and have stuck to their guns, making their own way in snowboarding. If there’s one company bent on the sound of snowboarding, it’s Nitro with a badass look mixed between snowboarding and skateboarding and music. With a couple new boards to the collection and a thirst for making boards for every type of rider, the evolution continues as 2009-2010 approaches. Setup: I rode the Nitro T2 with Union Force SL bindings and my Vans Omni Focus boots size 8. First Impression: Yet another Nitro that can do it all Size: 155cm Weight: lighter than average Flex: I wouldn’t classify it as a stiff board and definitely not a soft board, a good mid point for flex which is nice cause it could handle riding when you aren’t park riding all the time. It has more torsional flex, easier to maneuver into turns and with the wider width it was really stable. Turning: The wiig that I rode has the tri-progressive sidecut and man…its good to hold an edge, you go through each part of the turn and can power into the next turn. That makes it really easy to initiate but whether you are going short radius or long radius, you have a good controlled arc. Through the icy spots, it held an edge when I was turning. It didn’t have as much dampening so through some rougher bumpier areas is when I felt the board more. Stable: Since the waist width was wider than […]

Size: 155cm Weight: lighter than average Flex: I didn’t have any issues with flexing the board, very easy torsionally to flex and resulting in super quick turns making it a really easy ride. It was tougher to pinpoint the longitudinal flex when I rode it…but overall it’s a softer flexing board, easy to ride and fun to ride. It wasn’t so soft where I couldn’t wait to get done riding it…it actually was a fun ride for someone who likes freeriding with smaller freestyle tricks every now and then. Turning: The best turns were really short sharp turns…I didn’t have any problems with initiating turns, no catching on the turns but I also noticed the longer arc’d out turns weren’t as solid and it could have been just the smaller size for me. In addition, the board features our DRIFTER BASE, which is a convex base shape in the binding area which blends into a flat base toward tip and tail. Like all Nitro products the Sub Pop features a 2 year warranty. The Sub Pop will be featured in select shops in limited quantities beginning this Fall as an Early Introduction 2010 model.
