Currently Riding: 2013 Lib-Tech “TRS” 157, Bent Metal Bindings “Mortals”, 686 Outerwear, New Balance boots, POW gloves, Casual Industries clothing. Currently I am: Enjoying summer and waiting for it to start snowing. Shay: Tell us a little bit about yourself: Scott: I just like to play on my snowboard and film cool shit. I really just enjoy being out in the mountains and capturing moments with my camera. Shay: How has snowboarding changed your life? Scott: Honestly I think snowboarding actually saved my life. I feel like it put me on the right path and provided me with the opportunity to continuously meet new people, make amazingly gifted friends, and to see a little more of the world from a different perspective then I might otherwise had if I had to work the 9-5. Shay: How did you get your start in the industry, who or what opened up more opportunities for you? Scott: It all came about one day when I fell on my Motorola radio while riding, resulting in my spleen exploding. I almost died 3 different times that year from the fall […]

Many ideas have been created from the minds of Northwest snowboard bums, but few of those continue on to progress into existence. The story of Casual Industrees comes from the Mt Baker snowboard bum living and wanting clothing designs that represented the northwest shredder. Wa Brah 2.0 T-shirt [singlepic id=5058 w=300 h=400 float=] What started from two brothers (Dan and Brendan) living the Mt Baker shredding dream by selling shirts from their car in the Baker parking lot, has now become something more with the ability to create their own products straight out of Washington. Products that speak to snowboarders and also share a love for a location, while also being made in Washington. [singlepic id=5057 w=600 h=300 float=] Casual Industrees continues to be sold at snowboard shops, retail shops and their online store. They’ve started to branch out to incorporate other regions into their designs and expanding their softgoods to shredders outside of the NW. The designs that solidify the love of shredding, those precious moments on the chairlift as we wait to ride. [singlepic id=5055 w=300 h=400 float=] At SIA 2009, they came out swinging with their line of t-shirts, hoodies and accessories for men and women. […]

Friday, August 22nd marked evo’s summer company picnic in Seattle and I made sure that was an event not to miss out on. evo is one of my favorite snowboard shops; I support them and try to purchase from them every chance I get. This trip I actually picked up some magazines and the new Casual Industries Swatter Tee from evo when I stopped by. Earlier this summer I interviewed Gorio who I’ve known for jeez…10 years now and one of the things that came across in the interview was the people behind evo, to work with people you appreciate and value that makes your job better. When Molly invited me to the picnic I was stoked to get to meet more of the evo crew including Molly herself. What came from this picnic was seeing this family of people who run a snowboard shop. It was just fun to hang out with them for the afternoon…I even stayed longer than I expected. It says a lot about where you work when you enjoy the company of your co-workers long after work is done. The picnic was at Magnuson Park in Seattle, amazing location with a great view of Mt.
When I got the phone call from Kaiser that I should stop by Pow while in Seattle, I was excited to check it out. I’ve rocked the shockers since they came out and really like the humor and style behind Pows gloves. With the upcoming 08-09 models coming out in stores, I hope people will love them as much as I do. We need more mustachios, high 5’s and shockers in the world. When I arrived, I met with Dustin who is the founder/CEO of Pow Gloves and Henry the multi-tasking intern. Kaiser who is the marketing man was picking up food with some athlete prospects. Across the street from Pow happens to be a very good place to get a sandwich and I got lucky to be able to taste some that Kaiser brought back. Henry the intern by his desk and Kaiser’s desk Dustin’s side of the office Pow is still growing but the passion behind them is loud and clear. During my time there, I learned a lot about the company; how it became Pow Gloves, future goals and ideas, and educating me on the technical design aspects of building a glove. That’s one of the […]

I actually was away from wireless internet for the last 24 hours or so…but just made it back into civilization. I was on this beach hanging out and enjoying the sun today with family. In fact except for today…this trip was very productive in terms of the blog. Visited companies and got to spend more time with friends. Tomorrow I head back into the mountains, to Steamboat Springs Colorado. I have some good stuff to put up from this trip, a visit to POW Gloves office in Seattle and pictures from evo’s company picnic. Keep checking back for those to come…

I’m packed and on my way to the airport to head back to Seattle, Washington for a vacation for the next 8 days. I’ll be spending 5 days in Seattle and 3 days at Mt Hood. It’s tough leaving a resort town but it’s nice to go back to the hometown every now and then. The World of Snowboarding will still be updated on this journey…I still have stuff to say and experiences to encounter along the way. I am amped to hit up Mt Hood. For those who haven’t been out to Hood in the summer, it’s fun and amazing. Some of my best summers have been spent at Hood, whether it was being a summer liftie living rent free in Rhody or hanging out with friends on the top of the halfpipe, pushing each other to air higher. I have some funny epic stories from living at Hood and always good times when I go back there. Summer 2007: Shay hiking the pipe Update: I arrived in Seattle tonight…who knew that it was harder to leave Steamboat in the summer than the winter. Clear skies, no snow, easy flying…ah but the planes have issues. I arrived and am […]
