I am not a morning person especially when it involves waking up at 5:30am when everything is dark outside and everyone is asleep still. But the second I step on snow, it’s always worth it – It’s worth the 5:30am wake up call, the 6 hour roundtrip drive and the $30 to pay for a session of fun on the slopes. That was today at Boreal. It was my first time coming to Boreal and getting familiar with this new mountain that opened its lifts for the first turns in California. I had only seen Boreal from the highway (it’s right there, can’t miss it) but was excited to check out the terrain and get back on snow. Yesterday Boreal opened and today they had two chairlifts and two parks lines operating. Under Nugget chairlift there were 4 features: down box, down rail, flat down rail and wall ride. Under Castle Peak Quad were 10 features: 2 C-box’s, flat box, up flat down rail, tube, jump, wall ride, down rail and down box with a staircase inbetween. [singlepic id=10117 w=500 h=282 float=] I hit up the mountain with Daniel and Jeremy from Mammoth which was a blast and stoked to […]

It was a perfect day to spend Halloween and even though I was tired from traveling, I got talked into going riding and spending the day outside at Loveland Ski Area. I didn’t regret the decision later and definitely a great way to welcome myself back to Colorado, enjoying the snow that fell over the last couple days. We packed up one car for the four of us to drive down from Steamboat together and along for the journey was Philip, Doug, Amy and myself. [singlepic id=6680 w=400 h=300 float=] Upon arriving at the mountain we met up with Joey and Gags who got up a lot earlier than us to enjoy the snow. It was a busier day on the mountain, definitely the busiest I’ve seen it at Loveland since the season started and plenty of people dressed up in costumes. Two chairs were open so it wasn’t hard to move around and enjoy each one without too many lines. Joey and Philip at the top of Chair 6 [singlepic id=6673 w=400 h=300 float=] Joey riding down the run [singlepic id=6681 w=400 h=300 float=] For me it was great to be back on snow after traveling and I got […]

The last day of the weekend and my last day for shredding before traveling meant heading back down to Loveland for another day on the slopes. It was quite the journey to shred this morning with plenty of pit stops on the way but we eventually made it for a beautiful sunny day on the slopes. Our riding crew was the Click’s Philip, Sonny, Tony, Tony and myself. I really wanted to force myself to ride the park today especially since these guys were hitting the features, it was enough to make me start to try again. [singlepic id=6535 w=300 h=400 float=] When we showed up there were some lines but no more than a couple minutes and as the afternoon went on, there was barely anyone on the mountain so we had the runs and park to ourselves. [singlepic id=6540 w=400 h=300 float=] The park was a lot of fun today with the three features: Rainbow box, Cbox and flat box. I took photos of the guys as they rode each one and finally I hit the flat box for the first time this season.
The best part about snowboarding is once I hit the snow, everything else fades away. I’m surrounded by friends, peers, snowboarders and anything that is stressing me out or causing problems in my life isn’t part of snowboarding that day. It was another day of carpooling to Loveland Ski Area from Steamboat, about an hour and a half drive each way. Our crew was mountain employees: Steve (sign shop), Corey and Eric (Lift Maintenance). [singlepic id=6534 w=300 h=400 float=] We showed up a little after 10am and found barely any lines on the mountain with the sun shining for a beautiful warm day on the slopes. My new bangs…they look good. [singlepic id=6527 w=400 h=300 float=] On the mountain we met up with the Denver-sierrasnowboard friends (Bru, Joel, Steve, JR, Kevin?) and Lauren came up for the day to help teach Steve how to snowboard. [singlepic id=6530 w=400 h=300 float=] Since last weekend Loveland has opened up more runs with 5 runs open and moved the terrain park to the lower section with three features: C-box, Rainbow box and flat box. [singlepic id=6531 w=400 h=300 float=] Bru’s brother Steve is back in the game to get his shred on so […]

With the Colorado shred season underway now that two mountains are open, it’s definitely the time of the year that my free days are spent on the mountain. Saturday was the perfect day to drive down from Steamboat with friends for an afternoon of shredding. We had a minor glitch in the plans when we realized Philip left his snowboard pants at home, but a phone call to friends in summit county solved that. Made a small detour to borrow snowboard pants from Joey, huge thanks! The best part of driving to Loveland was seeing the K2 Van pull up next to us on the highway and waving to JP the rep, its time to see all the CO shredders once again. [singlepic id=6486 w=400 h=300 float=] We didn’t roll up to Loveland until 11:30am but from the highway we saw that there was still parking and no lift lines (yes on a Saturday). It was really mellow and laid back for the day. Teddy from Omatic was grilling up in the parking lot and we got wind of how long the lines were at A-basin. It’s why I would rather pay to ride Loveland than use my season pass […]
