Location: Keystone, Colorado Snow Conditions: Overcast with hardpacked groomers to a mixture of conditions. Setup: I rode the Raiden Eris’s with the Nitro Carrara and my Rome Vamp size 8 boots. Time to set up the binding: Average time, the only time I’ve noticed Raiden bindings being longer than average is if the baseplate is being a hassle to get it adjusted and moved to the right spot to screw in to the disc. Fit: Last year when I tried them, the fit was a off with them and my boot. This year it felt a lot more snug and good fitting to my boot. But also I’m rocking different boots since last time. First Impression: Comfortable, light, padding and no complaints. Appearance: Jungle theme meets animal kingdom. I’m not really big into the whole animal print look but that’s just me. Comfort: Airbag dampening was comfort under the feet, the straps are padded and offer good support as well as the highback, some padding there but the dampening under the feet made the binding a good improvement from last year’s on comfort. Functionality: A typical binding and everything worked fine for me during the demos, I didn’t encounter any […]

Location: Loveland, Colorado Snow Conditions: Hardpacked icy in the morning to soft bumpy in the afternoon groomers Setup: I rode the Raiden Tigre’s on 4 boards so far, the GNU B-pro, Never Summer Infinity, Lib TRS and Lib Phoenix Lando. Time to set up the binding: Average Fit: I’ve been rocking Rome’s so long that it took me a little longer to get everything dialed to my boot when I received the bindings. Didn’t have to adjust the heelcup to my boots and only had to adjust the straps. First Impression: I found a replacement to the Madison. Appearance: It’s a sleek black design with small raiden symbols on the binding. It’s not fancy or super color coordinated, but it’s sleek and it works. The ratchets are my favorite part, reminds me of a bottle opener. Comfort: The ankle strap is slim but really cushiony, it molds to my vans boots and my rome boots just fine. I like that it’s not bulky because I hardly notice it when I’m riding. The toe strap is really thin material but just molds around my toebox of the boot when I tighten it. The highback features a “nuback cushion” that molds around […]

This year I switched it up with bindings, getting the Union Contacts and now the Raiden Tigre’s . Giving me both a men’s and women’s option for bindings. Last year at the on-snow demo’s I was able to try the Raiden Eris bindings and definitely wanted another chance at Raiden’s to see how they will do over a full season. I’ve been rocking the rome’s for so long and ride’s before that so it was good to branch out this year. I still remember Seth mentioning at the demo’s that Garv had told him I know bindings and coming from Garv that’s a huge compliment. So when Seth offered up that I could get these bindings I was stoked to try something new and even more stoked when I got them today at my office. One thing with me is I prefer a freestyle riding with less response and more give on the mountain. My madisons I rode everywhere and I liked that flex versus a really stiff binding. Although I haven’t rode the Tigre’s yet but I think they’ll be fine for this year and once I get some days on them I’ll put up a review.
I checked out L1 outerwear briefly at SIA. It’s the outerwear company owned by the same folks as Nitro and Raiden. I thought it was a nice breathe of fresh air…because they kept with the dark colors and not going into the retro neon 80’s/90’s look like some other companies. They definitely keep it more upscale in terms of how a jacket/pants look. I got to see a lot of the jackets in person during my trip to the Nitro office and try on a couple, I ended up taking home the Breakdown jacket in purple and black. I’m not one to be very fashionable, I grew up in Washington where you know waterproof mm ratings over what looks good on you. So far I’ve spent 4 days on snow with the jacket and definitely some cool features. The gold print lining is amazing, it makes it feel like I’m wearing a super nice jacket but on-snow. The wrist gators are super warm and comfortable. My favorite part of the jacket is the “live to ride” embroidery on the cuffs. I wear music and the features definitely help you with listening to music in your jacket. Since I live in […]

Congrats to my friend Seth in his new position at Nitro! West Lebanon, NH: Nitro Snowboards today announced it has promoted Seth Quackenbush to the role of National Sales Director for Nitro USA. “When I first met Seth, I was genuinely impressed with his in-depth product and market knowledge,” Said Co Owner and Founder of Nitro Snowboards Thomas Delago. “After working with Seth over the past few months, he has greatly contributed to the improvement of our sales force and future product lines and marketing strategies.” Delago went on to say: “Seth is a great asset to our world-wide team of highly talented and motivated professionals and in his new role as the National Sales Director for Nitro USA will help lead Nitro to the next level.” Quackenbush has served as Nitro USA’s Sales Manager since November of 2007.
One of the highlights of my trip back to Washington was being able to check out the Nitro Office in Redmond. You’d never know there was a snowboard company office where it’s located. Nitro has been a NW company since the early days and it was a great time to meet the staff and hang out. The entry artwork on the walls Ryan and Seth both work for Nitro so it was great to spend time with them. I’ve known Ryan for years, we actually met through AASI events for instructing. Ryan introduced me to Seth who I’ve known through on-snow and SIA. Ryan Garvie and myself. Garvie’s office Walking into the Nitro office, you get the real feel for the style behind the company. The music, skate and graphic influence is the back bones behind Nitro. Skateboards line the walls, artistic posters with music and snowboards, older generation Nitro snowboards on the walls, comfortable couch set up and skate mini ramp make it a really sweet environment to step into.
Location: Keystone, Colorado Snow Conditions: Snowing with hard groomed to packed powder conditions on the runs. Setup: I rode the Nitro Eris on the Nitro Wiig snowboard with Vans Omni and Vans Omni Focus boots. Time to set up the binding: Average time Fit: The Eris bindings were adjusted to fit my Vans Omni Focus boots so when I demo’d the Vans Omni boots it wasn’t the same fit. When I rode with the Vans Omni, there was some space between the width of the binding but when I rode with my Vans Omni Focus I didn’t notice it as much. Even with it, I didn’t feel my boot slide around in the binding. The ankle strap fit snug while the toe strap I should have made an adjustment on. First Impression: Lets see what Raiden has to offer and damn I hope this combo of the Wiig turns out right. Appearance: I checked out the Raiden bindings at SIA, they definitely look good in person. They aren’t too flashy but keep a simple design with good colors. It just looks good and rides good. That’s what a binding should be.
