Intended Purpose: Designed for smaller faces, the Smith I/OS is based off of the popular I/O model and features an easy interchangeable design so you can switch out lenses easily. Location: I’ve been riding these goggles most of the season here at Keystone Resort in Colorado. Conditions: The goggles have been ridden during the day and night at Keystone in a variety of conditions. Some powder days with cold snow weather and warmer days with bluebird skies. Since I have two lenses (red sensor and green sol-x mirror), I can switch out lenses quickly depending on the weather conditions. Red sensor for cloudy/overcast/snowy and sol x mirror for bluebird. Color: I received the I/OS in the white strobe colorway which is really bright, fun and outgoing. It works with both lenses I received and is just a fun bright goggle to rock on the mountain. Lens: The I/OS came with two lenses to help with interchangeability on the mountain. I have the red sensor and green sol-x mirror lenses. The green sol-x mirror is a favorite, blocks out the light with a mirrored lens and is totally badass in changing color/visibility. The red sensor does better for all around conditions […]

Intended Purpose: The Bolle Simmer is designed to fit small to medium face in a compact design with distortion free vision. Location: I rode these goggles in the early season at Mammoth Mountain. Conditions: The early season conditions were a lot of stormy days with overcast skies, crappy flatlight and a couple rare bluebird moments. Color: I received these goggles in the purple flower frame and to be honest, it’s too feminine for my tastes. I wore it to review it but definitely the flowery/girly look is not my style so I didn’t wear it beyond trying it out. There are other frame options that are more ideal in my opinion and I especially like the bright blue option they have for this year. Lens: I rode the Aurora lens. These lenses are good for a mix of cloudy conditions where you need more depth perception. I took them out on a couple overcast/cloudy days at Mammoth and then sunny days where the slight mirrored helped but it’s definitely meant for not as much sun/more clouds. On the cloudy days it was good for visibility, allowing me to see the ranging snow conditions as I was riding them. Fit: These […]

Intended Purpose: The Speck x Burton Fitted iPhone case is a collaboration between Speck and Burton that delivers the protective quality of Speck and the visually stimulating patterns from Burton. It makes your iPhone look better with a better feel to it. Fit: This is a two piece hard shell design that snaps and locks together. The phone has bounced around a couple times but the case hasn’t disconnected. It hugs the iPhone design and still looks good without any extra bulk to it. Appearance: I received a couple pattern options for the Speck x Burton case (some went to giveaways) and ended up picking out the two that I liked. In the end I went with the Lumber Lighter fabric which is a plaid color assortment. For 2012, they have even more options to choose from (definitely lots of plaids). I like plaids so it’s fun to have this on my iPhone case. Features: The Speck x Burton fitted case comes with a two-piece hard shell design. This was very easy to snap together and it does form a good fit to my iPhone 4S. On the back of the case is tactile fabric and on the sides it […]

Intended Purpose: Meant for colder days on the slopes to keep your face warm and covered up. Appearance: I received the black strip/black reversible neckwarmer. I mostly use the black stripe side because it’s just a simple design. Best Used for: The clast neckwarmer is best for cold days on the mountain with some windchill. The two layers of merino wool will keep you face warm during those icy temps. I’ve worn it on warmer days when it’s windy and it blocks out the wind/sun without being overly hot. Fit: The clast reversible neckwarmer is basically a necktube that you pull over your head and it stays on during the day on the slopes. Mine fits me perfectly, tighter around the face, loose around the neck. Easy to pull up and down on the slopes. Durability: The durability test hasn’t been complete on the neckwarmer since I’ve only ridden with it at Hood a couple times this summer and now at Mammoth. I’ll definitely be wearing it more often this winter to see how it holds up for quality. Thoughts: I like the simplicity of neckwarmers as facemasks and the clast reversible merino is a material that keeps your face […]

Intended Purpose: The Bonfire particle snowboard pants are designed to be waterproof, breathable and ready to roll in the snow. Fit: The particle pants have a classic fit which means not too tight, not too baggy. I really liked how they fit me, just on the baggy side but not ultra baggy and good comfort all around. Appearance: I bought the particple pants for the color. I had watched my Analog pants in the exact same color die a quick death and wanted to replace with a better quality pant of the same color. Bonfire had exactly what I wanted with the particle pant. The cargo pockets on the side are perfect for easy access to my camera and enough pocket space on the pants for stashing keys, cell and stickers. Features: The particle pants feature 7,000mm waterproofing and 5,000 gm breathability. For Colorado dry conditions the mm/gm ratings were perfect. It was a little less than I would have liked but they held up on the few rainy days that I encountered with them. They are critically taped and come in a classic fit in a variety of colors. There isn’t much for features but the basic just need […]

Intended Purpose: The Burton Windstopper Hoodie is meant to be lightweight, windproof and breathable. Plus it’s warm meaning you stay warm underneath it and it keeps you dryer than you’d think. Normally I wouldn’t review a “hoodie” but this isn’t your average hoodie when it comes with a Gore-Tex name on it. Fit: It’s an average Burton fit so whatever size you typically wear you’ll do fine in your average size on this one. I prefer things a little bigger so I find it not my ideal size for always wearing on the mountain but when I use it as a layer or jacket around town…the fit works fine. Appearance: I received the windstopper in last year’s curaco dyed yarn plaid which is just a mix print of blue/brown all over plaid. I actually wasn’t a fan of the color at first but ended up completely falling in love with it. Not sure I could pull off plaid ( i have curves, haha) all the time but eventually i got over it. The design of the windstopper hoodie is rather simple but it has oversized pockets which are great for colder days keeping your hands in them and for me […]

Intended Purpose: The Remind insoles come in two versions, cush and thin. The thin are meant for more shoes and low impact like walking, the cush are ideal for higher impact activities like snowboarding. I’ve worn both in my snowboard boots and the cush are definitely more favorable for snowboarding. Appearance: This is one of my favorite things about Reminds insoles is that they don’t look like your typical insole of ugly plain colors. They have the artist collaboration series which feature a variety of local artists/riders on the insoles but you can also get the regular insole with the remind logo on them. Fit: I wear a size 8 snowboard boot and shoe so the size 8-8.5 insole is what I rock and it was a perfect fit into my snowboard boot. Usually I need to trim and adjust the insole to fit in, but these worked perfectly with no adjustments. The fit to my feet feels really comfortable and gives good arch support. Features: Remind insoles feature a moisture wicking fabric, highly durable rubberized foam, high grade gel, bladder construction. Remind focuses on giving riders an affordable insole that has the same benefits as a full custom orthotic […]

Intended Purpose: The Bern Baker Hardhat offers a comfortable fitting helmet with audio capacity so you can rock out to tunes on the mountain. The Hard Hat offers some protection from hard hits but it is not EN/AST/CPSC certified. Appearance: I’m a huge fan of Tj’s artwork and when the drawing on the Tj’s helmet caught my eye I knew that I was won over immediately. It’s a plain black matte helmet with a almost crayon like drawing of a skeleton with a sword. It’s dark, mysterious and protects my head that’s really all I wanted. Fit: I was surprised that the men’s helmet fit me, I went into Powdertools to check out helmet options and just see what Bern was like. I ended up finding out that the Baker hardhat fit my head, was snug and comfortable for me, plus quite warm. It was a helmet that I didn’t need to wear a beanie under and I was fine with that. The cold weather knit earmuffs is my favorite fitting feature, they keep my ears warm and snug around the helmet so I never have to worry about feeling cold from the head. Issue 7.1 reopens the debate with a feature by Jackson Hole’s Jeremy Jones who discovered a village in Turkey where they have been riding for four hundred years. Canadian icon Devun Walsh speaks on pushing snowboarding from the early 90s until now. British photographer Richard Baybutt chronicles his ill-equipped moto trip from England to the Alps in search of a bit more than powder turns. Colin Wiseman looks at the development of two small Canadian towns and their big mountains: Revelstoke and Golden, BC. Lastly, Vermont prodigy Kevin Pearce talks about going from the biggest contests in the world to filming in Alaska in his interview.
