Intended Purpose: Designed to be big sounds in a small package from the mountain to the city. The built-in microphone allows you to talk on the phone with the headphones. Sound: I’m not an expert on sound quality but the aerial 7’s have a clear sound to listen to while snowboarding and the ear gel buds it comes with blocks out most other sounds easily. Appearance: The sumo headphones come in a couple different colorways: blizzard, graffiti and candy. I have the graffiti color which is a bright mix of blue, orange, pink. At first I wasn’t sure about the colorway but I’ve warmed up to the brightness especially when it comes to finding the headphones in a pile of stuff or in my backpack. Ear Fit: I enjoy using ear buds when they don’t hurt my ears. So far Siege and now Aerial 7’s have good gel ear buds that work for my ears without hurting them. I’ve used the sumo headphones on long road trips to be able to talk on the phone while driving and I feel really comfortable with the gel ear buds. They have a mix of sizes they send you, so you can find […]

Intended Purpose: The stealth earbuds are meant for listening to the tunes while snowboarding and not worrying about lower quality or tangled cords. The people behind Siege Audio are snowboarders and so it’s no surprise that these earbuds can be taken on and off the mountain. Sound: I’m no expert on sound quality but just a snowboarder who listens to music when riding. Compared to my skullcandy headphones the sound is better and clearer. My one complaint is that the earbud really is good at knocking out sound as well, which means when I’m on the mountain I tend to only put in one earbud so I can hear outside sounds better. When I’m at work or working out, it’s easy to put in both earbuds and totally zone out from my surroundings. Appearance: The stealth earbuds come in multiple colors, I have the plain grey ones with black earbuds and no complaints on the appearance. The cord is woven nylon and so far that hasn’t been an issue in cold temperatures or bothering me on the mountain. Ear Fit: I have a hard time sticking earbuds into my ears and expecting them to stay all day long without hurting […]

Whether it’s listening to music on the mountain or in the car before you hit the slopes, music in snowboarding can get your heartbeat pumped up for what’s to come that day. It can distract us from our thoughts as we hit a rail to dial in that trick or it can keep us from being lonely on a day of riding alone. Music shouldn’t completely zone you out since every rider should be aware of their surroundings and be prepared for listening to outside sounds when you need them, but music can spice up a day of riding just when you need it. This year I upgraded to an IPOD nano 8GB after mine magically disappeared at Mt Hood, it was a bummer to see it go but I should have kept an eye on it better. For headphones, I am trying out siege ear cannons this year and I also have skullcandy headphones to listen to music with. For me I prefer to wear music when I’m riding alone especially in the halfpipe because it mellows me out or pumps me up. Generally when I’m with friends I try not to wear headphones so I can talk while […]

Siege Audio began with a small crew of pro snowboarders wanting what every rider wants; quality headphones at an affordable price that can handle the mountain. With knowledge from the future, Siege brought that to us and will continue to bring audio products that work on and off the mountain. Based out of SLC, “SIEGE™ is listening. Rider owned. Community driven. Leading-edge + precision-built.” [singlepic id=6358 w=200 h=322 float=] They launched their sound-isolating Stealth Ear Cannons and will introduce more products in the future including the Eleven, Division and Alpha headphones. Unlike other audio brands, Siege openly engages customers to find out likes/dislikes of audio equipment and are striving to bring a product that adapts to what riders need and want. The Siege Audio Stealth Ear Cannons feature tangle-free cords, 12mm sound drivers, cord control system, low-profile design and arbre Isolation caps. The stealth’s start at $39.95 and come in multiple cord colors like black, gray, red and green. [singlepic id=6361 w=500 h=324 float=] I was able to get my hands on the Siege Stealth ear cannons to try on the mountain this winter and will review them as the season is underway. I’ve been rocking them at work when […]

Last year I wrote about riding with music, but things have changed with how I listen to my music and my playlist. I’m still using my Ipod Nano which over the past year has held up really well. Basically it still works, I haven’t lost it yet and I still have room for more songs. I just got 1,000 hits of the 80’s so I’ve been trying to go through those and select my favorites. Instead of the Burton headphone beanie, which I’ve used once this year…I’m spending the majority of my time in the Skullcandy headphones over my beanie of choice which is either Coal or Bula. I’ve got a Bula stereohead beanie that I’ll start trying out on the mountain and reviewing as well. I often listen to music when riding, especially in the halfpipe. When I’m on runs, I try to keep the volume so I can hear sounds around me and stay aware of my surroundings. Here’s my current snowboarding playlist: Busta Rhymes – I love my bitch The Clash – Straight to Hell Scott Sullivan – Scarlet Utopia Ladytron – Seventeen MGMT – Kids Heart of Palm – Stand Back Up T.I. – Whatever you […]

Before the 2004-2005 season I never listened to music while snowboarding. I was a firm believer that it was dangerous since I couldn’t hear people around me and I didn’t think I would like it. In October 2004 I came back on the slopes after having ACL/Meniscus surgery…and every sound around me freaked me out while riding. I had gone from very confident on the slopes to very scared of people skiing/riding around me. I’ve heard that in collisions of any kind…the people who are relaxed have a better chance of coming out without injuries. If you tense up…your more likely to get injured. I don’t know how true that is…but with snowboarding for me…I’d rather be taken out without knowing that it’s about to happen. I heard from a friend that I should listen to music while riding. With music I wouldn’t concentrate on the sounds around me…and it definitely helped me relax while riding. I rock the Burton headphone beanies so I can listen to my music without drowning out too many sounds on the mountain. I don’t like having earphones cause they hurt my ears so this solved that problem. I used to have the ipod shuffle […]
