For board tech, there’s a whole range of styles depending on your personal preference: No hang ups, jibpop, freepop, mtnpop, stay positive camber, hybrid ripit camber, hybrid fun camber, powder S camber. Rome continues to offer rocker snowboards with quickrip sidecut. It lets a board ride short at slow speeds by engaging the mid-section sidecut between the mid-board contact points and ride long at high speeds by engaging the full length sidecut where the mid-board contact points work to improve edge hold. Rome continues with hotrod technology for a targeted, focused, lightweight pop and pressurepop technology for energy transmission from binding to board to snow. Rome CrossRocket Lover of poppy jumps, surfy lines and heavy bottom turns. All-mountain slayer, destroying all-terrain; floats backcountry lines and locks into park jib spines; buttery to the touch but snappy when it’s clutch; surf’s pow and cranks railed out turns. The names Targa, 390 and Madisons have won over riders hearts and taken their place in the line-up for quality bindings that work. Other bindings have been added to the line-up of the years and now you can find the arsenal, united, shifts, struts, mob, bosses and runway bringing you the same quality that the others have. For 2013, Rome continues to improve their technology featured in the bindings. The highend bindings feature the Yes I can’t system and Can’t in the Back systems for the ultimate in adjustability and customization to the bindings. Their V-rod technology helps improve response and natural board feel to riding. They have a range of highbacks, straps and heel hoops to make each binding different for each style of riding involved.
Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Rome Hammerhead with the Mob Bosses bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 153cm. First Impression: Woah crazy shape but you don’t notice it when you are riding. Weight: Average. Flex: The Hammerhead is definitely built to be a softer park flex for on-mountain jibbing and freestyle fun. Torsionally it’s a softer more playful board, easy to engage into the next turn and get quick response for turning. It’s stiffer underfoot to give you support and stability while cruising. The nose and tail are medium range for flex, definitely soft enough to be playful but not overly soft so you wipe out while buttering. Turning: Easy engagement on the Hammerhead. Overall it’s a pretty forgiving, easy to ride board. The softer flex and thinning between the bindings allows for you to get quick response out of it. Underneath the bindings you have more support with a stiffer flex so you feel like you can still cruise on it. Short turns were the most impressive, longer turns did okay but this board was built for quick. Stable: The Hammerhead is softer so it’s not as stable […]

Location: Mammoth, CA & June, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to deep powder conditions Setup: I rode the Rome Madison bindings on the Never Summer SL & Lotus with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: It’s been a while since I mounted Rome’s by my own hands and at first I thought the screws were too short. After a google search, I found out I just needed to tighten one screw without the washer, then the screws with washers would tighten and I could put a washer on the last screw. So it took more time but only because the last time I had madisons that wasn’t an issue. Other than that, straps was quick adjust so took no time to set up to my boots. Fit: The Rome Madisons have always been a good fit to my Vans boots. My boots are quick to adjust with the Madisons, I usually pull out the toe ramp to match the boot length better and the width of the binding works good with my boot footprint. First Impression: Good to be back on the Madisons for hard riding no matter where you take them Appearance: I ended […]

It’s no secret that Rome Snowboards designs for the 100 day rider and it stays the same motto when it comes to their gloves. They continue to create gloves for a range of snowboarding days from the tough winters to the warm summers. For 11-12, Rome Gloves have a lot to offer with a variety of designs from the good old fashioned Rome looks to the alcohol inspired to those for the pros. The majority of Rome’s gloves feature drytac, a waterproof/breathable insert to keep those days on the snow lasting longer. Other features are flexible insulation for varying insulation depending on where the glove needs it most. My favorite feature is the soft nose wipe for those runny nose days. Pros LNP and MFR both receive pro models this year, the LNP in a glove and the MFR in a mitt. Rome Shred Life Mitt Features: 1.1 micro fleece on the palm side, waterproof, breathable drytac insert, synleather palm, knitted cuff with removable leashes. Flex=7. Feel=6. Sizing: XS-XL. Time to set up the binding: Pretty quick timing to mount up the Targa’s during the demo. I figured that they might take some time with adjustments but for some reason they were matched good to my boot so setting up was normal time. Fit: The Targa’s were on the larger side for my boot as they should be since I rock women’s boots, my boot was a bit smaller than the binding itself but nothing major. Mostly the baseplate was a tad longer than my boot and in the second photo you can see that I could have adjusted the toe strap to be a notch more inwards. The width was fine on the binding to boot. But overall, the ankle strap was secure around my boot and the toe strap gripped without slipping. However with the mod, I had the same issue on the left ankle strap where I could feel a slight pressure of the ratchet against my boot.
Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomed runs. Setup: I rode the Rome Mod with Rome Targa bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 153cm. First Impression: New upgrades on the mod and a switch from camber to rocker camber! Weight: Average Flex: In the grand scheme of flex, the rome mod is on the stiffer end of freestyle boards. It’s meant for backcountry, for jumps and for stability while riding. Torsionally it’s softer which helps give it quick to quick edge control but most of the stiffer flex is from the bindings to almost the contact points. There’s just enough rocker on the nose/tail that you have float/butterability but it doesn’t make the board any less of a aggressive ride. One major upgrade is the switch from positive camber in 2011 to freepop rocker camber in 2011. Freepop rocker camber is a combination of a flat mid section past the inserts and rocker in the nose and tail. Turning: Quick to engage into turns with a very fluid motion. It carved much better than I was expecting and I later saw that the mod went from a 5 to an 8 on carving which I agree […]

Since the beginning, Rome has been redefining, reinventing and revolutionzing their collection year after year. They’ve expanded their collection of snowboards to offer something to every type of rider. From the urban jib sticks to the backcountry powder machines, each board serves a purpose. For 2012, Rome introduces the whiteroom splitboard, reverb and reverb rocker for park to pow, factory rocker as a price point rocker. Women get additional rocker with the detail rocker snowboard. Rome Agent Rocker The frontman of the rocker revolution lets it all hang out. Features superpop core matrix, straight triax30 […]
