Location: Keystone, Colorado Snow Conditions: Bluebird with hardpacked groomers on the 3rd day of the demos. Setup: I rode the Rossignol Angus with Union Forces and my Rome Vamps size 8. First Impression: This was a hard board to judge, but ripped for handling the whole mountain. Size: 157cm Weight: heavier than average Flex: It’s designed to be all mountain freestyle but this board just kills for freeriding down the mountain. The longitudinal flex is softer from nose to tail, so the tail is stiffer which really lets you rally out of turns and it holds speed very well. Torsionally between the bindings it’s softer so you still get quick response edge to edge. Overall the flex is on the stiffer side for an all-mountain freestyle board. In terms of freestyle, the stiffer flex doesn’t make buttering as easy definitely working harder for it unless you do nose butters. The day I spent on the Angus it was hardpacked groomers and I would have really liked to see the Angus ride in powder and trees. Turning: Turning on the angus is everything, the torsional softness between the bindings gives you quick response for the shorter turns and the overall stiffness […]

Rossignol snowboards has been through quite the adventure over the past couple years, sale of the company multiple times but still keeping with the constant team and brand favorites that make Rossignol snowboards what it is. New this year is Rossignol’s Amptek, their reverse camber for Rossignol snowboards. It is featured on the brand new Angus, a directional twin for all mountain riding and the Jeremy Jones Mag, meant for powder and big mountain riding. They also worked to revamp and update the bindings. Setup: I rode the Rossignol JDub MTX with Union Force SL bindings and my Vans Omni Focus size 8. First Impression: Stiffer freestyle deck meant for backcountry booters.Size: 154cmWeight: average Flex: The Jdub is a stiffer freestyle board, you could ride it as a freeride board and hit park laps every now and then with it and still be fine. It features a stiffer tail than nose. Turning: With the stiffness, it handles long radius turns very smooth and holds the edge through any terrain. Definitely a more advanced board, with the stiffness you have to really be able to flex the board and it’s not a easy board to ride off the bat.Stable: I didn’t encounter any unstable feeling on the jdub, overall smooth ride when I was freeriding with it. The magnetraction helps it grip the snow on icy spots and very grippy. It handled speed good and it never felt like I was riding a smaller board than I typically would.
Industry Profile: Rossignol Team Manager Alex Pashley Shay: So tell us about yourself? Alex: I am getting close to the big 30 mark…well, I’ve got a couple years…I love snowboarding, always have. I live in Heber, Utah, with my two loves, Erin and Kujo. It also helps that I am about 5 miles to the sled zone. I actually got into snowboarding because of my dad and his buddy, they used to own a shop in Idaho Springs, CO called Cruise or Bruise…great name. My mom came from a strict ski race background and hated snowboarding at first…she to this day has never set foot on a board. Good for her. She rips on skis anyways. My dad still kills it on a board. You can find him in Terrace, BC every winter. He is the only one rocking a one piece suit, Glacier glasses and a fucking huge split tail Prior deck….probably shredding harder than me still. My brother used to ride for Checker Pig. Yes, that was a brand back in the day, thanks Windell…well, there is my fam. Shay: What is your job title? Alex: I am the International Team and Promotions Manager for Rossignol.
The Salt Lake City Tribune put out a recent article that Rossignol Ski Company is up for sale. Soon after more information came out that the sale would only include the ski side of the company; ski equipment and apparel. First Tracks Online posted up this article regarding the issue which I’ve quoted the most interesting part below: “Among winter sports brands, Quiksilver also maintains the Quiksilver, Roxy, DC and other apparel brand businesses. The company will continue to make snowboarding equipment under its DC, Roxy, Lib Technologies, Gnu and Bent Metal labels.” So it remains to be seen. In case you didn’t know, Rossignol makes snowboards. But if the sale only includes Ski Equipment and the Quiksilver company will continue making snowboards under those brands listed above…what happens to Rossignol Snowboards? While Rossignol Snowboards is not one of the most popular core brands out there for snowboarding, it is a snowboard company that has built snowboards for the last 21 years. It has an excellent all mountain team in place and products that are known to handle it all. At this time, it looks like the latest edition of DC snowboards to Quiksilver will be replacing the brand with […]

First Impression: It’s got killer graphics and it’s super fun…what else do you need? Size: 156cm Weight: A little lighter than average Flex: I liked that the nose and tail were stiffer than between the bindings. It still let the board freeride with some good torsional flex to it. I didn’t take the rpm on any rails but definitely a softer flex in the center would have been fun to mess around with. Turning: With the deep progressive sidecut, it was really fun to make quick sharp turns since it offered such quick response. It was easy to put up on edge, wasn’t very aggressive in turns. It’s definitely one of those boards you can progress with. Stable: I was surprised by how stable the RPM when I went faster with it. When I got to bumpier terrain, it was able to flex through. Even with an extruded base, this board with the right wax was bomber on the mountain. I had no problems hauling down runs on the board. […]

First Impression: It looks like a bag of fun which the artistic flare and lets see how this nose/tail ride. Size: 153cmWeight: Average weight Flex: I wish I could have taken it in a halfpipe because it handled stiffer between the bindings with a softer tail for easy buttering and presses. The nose was a tad stiffer which allowed it to be fine freeriding with. I was impressed that it wasn’t a soft noodle for a freestyle board but a freestyle board that could handle the whole mountain. Turning: The retox was detuned so it was not catchy or hooky when riding. For a twin freestyle board, it rode fine on groomers. I felt confident laying it over into each carve. The retox features a deep progressive sidecut allowing you to lay into over into quick short turn carves. Stable: I took the retox through some choppier conditions which handled decent, definitely if I had picked it up to higher speeds it would have been a bit less stable.
Checking out the 08-09 Rossignol boards at SIA, I was expecting some big changes but it looks like the line up was definitely perfected in terms of the models that work. Rossignol stepped up to the magne traction market again this year by adding 2 more models with magne traction: Diva Mag and One Mag. I wish I got a picture of the Jones up close and the base. It’s my favorite Rossignol board and in person with a big mountain on the topsheet and a beach/waves on the base…just is beautiful graphics.
