Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Softpacked to hardpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Roxy Team bindings on the Lib Tech Trice with my Vans Aura size 8 boots. Time to set up the binding: Average time to set up on the board. Fit: I rocked the Team bindings in the M/L bindings which fit my size 8 women’s boots just fine. First Impression: It takes a strong binding to go well with the Lib Tech Trice and Torah Bright’s binding is just that. Appearance: I tried the Roxy Team bindings in the Torah Bright design which is white with some gold marking on the binding. It’s pretty basic in design with subtle flashyness. Comfort: The Team bindings definitely offered up a padded and supportive ride for the mountain. It features high density real feel performance strap padding with minimalistic design, shock-absorbing full EVA footbed and dual density foam canted footbed. Very comfortable ride for the mountain and helps absorb the rough riding. Functionality: The Roxy Team bindings feature a RX-a super lightweight highback with an asymmetrical women’s specific design, heel pocket with friction grip hold, lateral adjust highbacks with tool free forward lean. These boards are built tough, designed for a range of female shredders and rip down the mountain. Ecologically friendly and handbuilt in the USA by Mervin Manufacturing (same as Lib and GNU), these boars are created and designed by women for women riders. They continue to focus on the environmental efforts that Mervin stands behind which you can see in the bio-plastic topsheets and eco-conscious materials. Roxy makes boards for women ranging from beginning riders to the advanced riders, park to powder. For 2013, Roxy has listened to the demands of the women and introduces the new banana smoothie board series. Built for freeriding and powder, the Banana Smoothie comes in a regular and splitboard snowboard with the EC2 Technology. Roxy continues to offer C2 BTX on the more advanced boards, BTX on the more playful boards and banana on the beginner boards to make the learning curve easier. Weight: Average Flex: The envi is a more aggressive women’s board when it comes to flex and handling. Stiffer longitudinally with a tad softer nose and softer torsional flex but still overall stiffer ride for women. It’s one of the few women’s boards that is comparable to men’s boards of the same caliber and just as aggressive for charging and handling. The Envi has C2 BTX which is banana rocker between the bindings and camber from the inserts to the contact points. The reverse camber helps give it extra float in the powder and playfulness but still camber for stability on the mountain. Turning: Quick response from edge to edge on the envi, it really turns on a dime but also handles a mix of carving turns whether you want slow or drawn out riding. Just for the board flex and handling, […]

Setup: I rode the Roxy Eminence C2 BTX with my Union bastardized bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: Disregard the prettyness of this board because it rides like a badass down the mountain. Weight: Lighter than average Flex: Despite being Torah Bright’s pipe board, the eminence is actually a softer medium flex board that suits the park to mountain riding. Between the binding it’s a tad stiffer flex that helps give stability on the mountain, then the nose and tail is slightly softer giving it a lot more playfulness on the mountain. It’s overall not a soft board but it’s not a stiff pipe board like you’d expect either. The eminence for 10-11 has C2 BTX, which is banana rocker between the binding inserts and camber from the inserts to the contact points. It helps the board handle everything from park to powder. Setup: I rode the Roxy Ollie Pop C2 with Rome Strut bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 154cm. First Impression: I can see why this board is such a popular women’s board and now with C2 it makes it so your progression is limitless with this ride. Weight: average Flex: The ollie pop is softer torsionally and between the feet which makes it really easy turn. The stiffer flex is where the camber is but that helps give it more stability underfoot and absorb some rougher terrain. Overall a really easy forgiving flex that can handle freeriding or park. The ollie pop for 10-11 has C2 BTX which is banana rocker between the inserts and then camber from the feet out, plus magne traction so the serrated edges that help grip the snow. Turning: I found the ollie pop to be very consistent in it’s turning on the mountain, easy turn was predictable and forgiving to the rider. I could make short or long turns without feeling like it wanted to get out of it. The overall sidecut arc held […]

Welcome to the world of Roxy, where women rip and design the boards that other women ride. It’s a new generation of riders, designers and a factory known as Mervin Manufacturing that builds them. Roxy caught me by surprise a couple years ago when I first stepped on a Roxy board and since then, every board I’ve ridden is a breath of fresh air for female snowboarders. For 10-11 the women get C2 technology in big ways, three models receive reverse camber for a mixture of riding styles from freeriding to park, aggressive to playful. Those models are the eminence, envi and ollie pop. BTX continues on with the Ally and something new in store the silhouette B, Sugar B and Inspire B all feature Banana (without the traction) meant to make learning easier for beginner to intermediate riders linking turns at slower speeds with catch-free riding. First Impression: I love riding a board my size meant for women who ride hard, huge smile on my face everytime I get on these boards. Size: 157cm Weight: average Flex: A stiffer flex longitudinally with the nose being raised and tad softer so you can float easier in the powder. There was some torsional give which made the groomers not too difficult to turn quickly, but definitely a more aggressive women’s ride in terms of flex. It really handled the northwest riding conditions, crud, ice under pow and powder. Out of the women’s boards it handled the best for freeriding and charging, comparable to some men’s boards I’ve ridden.
