Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Salomon Absolutes on the Salomon Salomonder with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: The bindings were quick to set up on the board. In hindsight I thought the toe strap was centered and adjusted properly but with the slipping, who knows. Fit: For the most part the binding fit my boot to perfection, good with the width on the baseplate, straps were centered and comfortable. First Impression: The absolutes are a super comfortable binding for the freestyle to mountain female rider. Appearance: If it wasn’t for the diamond and the writing it would have been tough to guess the gunmetal color of the absolute premiums was meant to be for the ladies. I like the black on it but the gunmetal coloring is kind of bland for a women’s binding. The binding rides better than it looks. Comfort: The absolutes had comfort dialed. The baseplate was padded and super comfortable ankle straps. Full EVA padding on the binding which helped it absorb the really bumpy terrain at the end of the day. I thought the bindings were the […]

Location: Winter Park, Colorado Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain, flat-light riding conditions. Setup: I rode the Salomon Celeste bindings on the Salomon Pop Star with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: I think I made the guy nervous because it took a lot longer than normal to set them up. But it’s not because they were difficult, they weren’t and normally they are easy and quick to get set up. Fit: The celeste fit was good with my boots, no gaps in the width of the binding and I could have pulled out the toe ramps to be more aligned with my boot but I was able to ride them no problem. Ankle/toe straps fit my boots. In the past I’ve have issues with the salomon toe straps and this time I didn’t encounter any slippage or problems with it sticking on me. First Impression: Comfortable and so far good all around especially with the toe strap staying on. Appearance: Definitely a girly binding look but more subtle than you think, you hardly recognize the flower power until you really start looking at the bindings. The white overall appearance helps […]

With the one of a kind Relay system, Salomon continues to step it up by designing bindings to make less of an impact on the globe. Apart from their environmental approach, they introduced a lighter base plate for 09-10 and bright colors/designs to set the bindings apart. Two new bindings are the men’s Arcade and women’s Stella which feature Salomon’s new slasher baseplate and fly back highback. The slasher is their lightest weight baseplate at 100g lighter than the transfer baseplate. The GIFT (Green Initiative for Tomorrow) is integrated into their bindings by using bioplastics and recycled materials. Salomon Arcade Salomon Arnie 5000 Salomon Chief Select The men’s Relay Pro and Relay GIFT for women are the eco-sensitive bindings. They are basic steps to cut down on the need for virgin raw materials. Corn based polymers replace petroleum based raw materials in the straps. In the factory, any extra material is now reground instead of headed to the dumpster and turned into a 100% recycled base plate.
Location: Loveland, Colorado Snow Conditions: Snowing with hardpacked groomers to icy groomers to fresh snow on the runs. Setup: I rode the Salomon relay-elite bindings on the Salomon Sick Stick and Salomon Sanchez with my Vans Omni Focus boots. Time to set up the binding: Average time Fit: The ankle strap was centered and adjusted to my boot. The toe strap when I took it out with the Sanchez kept slipping over my toe no matter how tight I got it. I adjusted the toe strap to the inner hole when I took out the Sick Stick which made it better and not slipping during riding. However the toe strap really doesn’t fit my boots that well. First Impression: The toe strap and me hate each other. Appearance: Kind of reminded me of curtains that my grandma would like. They aren’t bad looking, I just think they have more flare than they need. Comfort: The ankle strap is pretty bulky but a good soft flexing strap against the boot. The highback fit my boot shape and the baseplate cover offers padding beneath the toes and heels making it a very comfortable ride down the slopes. Functionality: Despite some extra flare […]

Location: Keystone, Colorado Snow Conditions: Cold with hardpacked groomers and some choppy terrain. Setup: I rode the Salomon Absolute bindings on the Salomon Loft with my Vans Omni Focus boots. Time to set up the binding: Longer than average due to making the binding fit properly. Fit: It took about 3 tries to get the bindings to properly be fit to my boot and centered. Each time had to be taken off to fully adjust the binding. I still don’t think the toe strap fit my boot that well especially not looking at photos up close. First Impression: Please don’t have these ratchets stick like most Salomon ratchets stick. Ah not sticking…YES! Appearance: It’s white and cute. I like the ankle strap look but to me the toe strap just looks funny like a tube sock. Comfort: I found the ankle strap very comfortable once it was lined up to my boot. Molded to my boot and didn’t have any pressure points with my boots. The highback was softer, but very comfortable. The toe strap I felt I had to crank down so that wasn’t too comfortable for me. Functionality: Other than the lack of adjustibility on the straps, the […]
