Play like a Champion. That’s Salomon Snowboards for 2013 and they want you to get loose on the mountain. Their line-up includes everything from all mountain access to park and freestyle to powderific fun. Their board technology camber profiles feature rock out camber (flat between the bindings, camber under the feet and rocker on the tip/tail), flat out camber (flat profile with camber between the feet), pres-sure rocker (pure reverse camber), pow rocker (flat profile between the bindings with more rocker on tip/tail), super flat (flat profile), cross profile (camber between the feet, rocker on tip/tail), camber (traditional). For 2013, Salomon brings out the Classicks which are light, black and badass. They are the most advanced profiles with muscle car pop and equalizer to create a totally unique board feel that works. The Classicks come on the Villain, Drift Rocker, Official and Sabotage. These boards are designed to be lighter (5.3 ounces). Salomon XLT Weighing in at just about 5.7 pounds (2.6kg) the XLT is the lightest board in our line. With a camber profile, Ghost XLT core, and Shock Eraser Rails the XLT rides it all and still maintains a consistent board feel.
Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Salomon Absolute Premium bindings on the YES Greats/Venture Helix with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: Pretty normal time to set up the bindings. Fit: I tried the Salomon Absolute Premium bindings in the medium size which were suitable to my size 8 boots. Good comfortable fit on the width and baseplate to my boots. First Impression: Responsive, comfortable and a toe strap I finally like. Appearance: They only come in White for the Absolute Premium bindings but I like the design since it’s a mix of white and purple with a subtle mint coloring in spots. I definitely like the look of the binding and the color choices bring out the flawless design. Comfort: Good comfort on the Absolute Premium bindings. The ankle strap is padded and molds very well to the boot without causing any pressure points. The toe strap didn’t have any problems and the padding in the baseplate helped absorb any rough bumpy terrain while riding. Functionality: The Salomon Absolute Premium bindings offer up a high end responsive binding for women. The baseplate is a transfer […]

Intended Purpose: The Bonfire Banked Fleece is essential for the mountains. The jacket is designed with a fleece lining for snowboarding (or around town) and an accented hood. It’s a great collection for layering on the mountain during the cold winter or warm spring conditions. Fit: It was designed to be a layering piece in the Bonfire line so the fit hugs the body without being overly loose. It features a longer fit in my opinion so it doesn’t feel short and the sleeves are a good length. I can zip up the jacket and have good protection around the neck and head for windy days on the mountain. Appearance: I received the banked fleece as a gift from the skier in the bright red color. It’s bright and I really like the color. There are other color options like black, blue, green and grey but I really like the bright red. Features: The fleece jacket features polyester on the outside with fleece lining on the inside. It offers no waterproofing so it’s meant for being under a jacket or in warmer spring conditions. It’s a pretty minimal design with zippered pockets, nothing on the inside of the jacket. On […]

Setup: I rode the Salomon Absolutes on the Salomon Salomonder with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: The bindings were quick to set up on the board. In hindsight I thought the toe strap was centered and adjusted properly but with the slipping, who knows. Fit: For the most part the binding fit my boot to perfection, good with the width on the baseplate, straps were centered and comfortable. First Impression: The absolutes are a super comfortable binding for the freestyle to mountain female rider. Appearance: If it wasn’t for the diamond and the writing it would have been tough to guess the gunmetal color of the absolute premiums was meant to be for the ladies. I like the black on it but the gunmetal coloring is kind of bland for a women’s binding. The binding rides better than it looks. Comfort: The absolutes had comfort dialed. The baseplate was padded and super comfortable ankle straps. Full EVA padding on the binding which helped it absorb the really bumpy terrain at the end of the day. I thought the bindings were the […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Mixture of hardpacked groomers to icy death. Setup: I rode the Salomon Answer with my Union bastardized bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 156cm. First Impression: This board has some snap, crackle and pop to it giving you a lighter all mountain lively board. Weight: lighter than average. Flex: One of the first noticeable things about the answer was that the nose/tail was stiffer but between the binding was rather softer giving it much softer torsional flex. Overall longitudinally it felt stiffer but still was easier to initiate turns with because of the softer torsional flex. Overall it surprised me because it didn’t feel like the flex of 3 on the mountain. It was a light board with decent dampness but definitely you could feel between the bindings what kind of terrain you are on. The Answer was changed to flat profile in last year’s model and kept the flat profile for the 2011 model. Turning: It was a very easy board to get turns initiated and onto edge from toeside to heelside down the mountain. The softer torsional flex helped allow turns come easier and it felt really good on shorter radius turns. Setup: I rode the Salomon Pop Star with Salomon Celeste bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 153cm. First Impression: So far this is a good all around mountain ride and enjoying being back on camber. Weight: Lighter than average Flex: The first thing I noticed was the stiffer nose and tad softer tail and overall the flex isn’t insanely soft but not a stiff board. It’s on the lower end for flex, you can play with it but also capable of holding turns and freeriding. I was surprised at how it handled for freeriding, overall the flex on the board was consistent with the exception that I thought the nose was a tad stiffer than the tail . Turning: The pop star made turning a consistent ride, the edgehold was good for the conditions and each turn I had control over how the board played out in the carve. If I wanted a deeper carve, I could lay it over and really ride it. If I wanted a mellow more easy turns, the board handled that just fine. I didn’t feel if […]
