Hard to believe it’s that time of year but things are about to get crazy in Colorado! For the next 10 days I’ll be on the road, in the tradeshow for four days, on the snow demos for two days and finally relaxing towards the end of the trip. I’ll be attending the SIA Tradeshow as media for Shayboarder.com. Over the next couple days you’ll see a lot of 2013 gear, twitter updates (@Shayboarder), instagram photos (Shayboarder), Facebook Updates (/Shayboarder) and a whole lotta fun in the process. After the tradeshow, I’ll immediately head into the mountains for the on-snow portion at Winter Park then on a mini vacation roadtrip. After I get back in Washington, I’ll start the constant updates from SIA with product information and 2012 reviews. Here’s what is coming up for the next 10 days! SIA Tradeshow in Denver Watch out Denver, the snowboard and ski industry is coming to Colorado! The SIA Tradeshow is an industry event where the next year’s gear is released. A ton of ski and snowboard companies will be displaying their 2013 gear for industry buyers and media this week. It all kicks off on Thursday and ends Sunday. Plus each […]

This year passed quickly and the last day of the tradeshow, day 4 came quicker than I could remember. I kept the partying to a minimum on the last evening, just enjoyed dinner with a great crew of people and went to bed earlier than the previous nights. The hotel room was a war zone with catalogs piled around, mix of shirts to socks to sunglasses ready to take home and a fair amount of stickers. All that plus my gear plus clothes had to be packed up the morning of day 4, then kept in luggage check until the end of the show. I headed into the show at 9am for my first appointment and stayed till 1pm when the show closed. It was a busier day than expected with last minute stop-by booth’s and appointments to get wrapped up. Skullcandy’s Rick Alden has a collection of snowboard history that he showed off at the Skullcandy booth. I’d never seen a barfoot board in person or a lot of those boards so looking at them in the morning was perfect.
The SIA Tradeshow is underway in Denver, Colorado and day 2 was packed with more appointments to see what’s coming out for 2012. I’ve been able to see everything from snowboards to outerwear to gloves to goggles, just getting an idea of what is to come next year. It’s also overwhelming with the amount of information you receive so looking forward to winding down with all the catalogs to really dive in deep. I’m tweeting from the show so make sure you follow me on twitter.com/shayboarder for the latest updates from SIA. Weekend snowboards and Bond outerwear were a breathe of fresh air. The boards have a variety of options from traditional camber to flapjack (flat) to reverse camber to smorgasbord (reverse flat reverse).
I definitely look forward to SIA each year because it’s 4 days of fun packed together, appointments all day and tons of people that you love catching up with. The snowboard industry is small but with some amazing people involved in making something we love happen. Today was Day 1 of the SIA tradeshow in Denver, I’ll go into more product detail after the tradeshow when I write about each company and what’s coming out. I intentionally started my appointments at 11am to be able to hang out and do swing by’s with brands before getting down to business. To start the day, I stopped by Capita and Union to check out the line. I had already seen the catalog but was really excited to see the new products in person. Capita added a couple new boards including the Totally Fk’n Awesome and NAS. [singlepic id=10583 w=1000 h=667 mode=watermark float=] While hanging out at Capita, I see the familiar face of TJ Schneider so I nudged him to get a picture of him with his mid life zero for 2012. TJ also handed me some snowboard realms shirts to do a giveaway with…so stay tuned for that and check out snowboard […]

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the move to Denver for the SIA Snow Show but soon found out that regardless of location, the fun and products would always be there (except with less smoke). SIA in Denver was another great time at the trade show, I was able to meet a ton of people and see people I’ve gotten to know through this site. The response to shayboarder.com was amazing that I’m still blown away by how lucky I am. I have over 1,000 photos to go through from the SIA 2010 tradeshow and each company will have their own post as I put up photos. It’ll be great to sit down and really check out each catalog to see the new exciting things for 2010-2011. [singlepic id=7533 w=400 h=267 float=] Meeting Jeremy Jones in person was one of the best highlights of the show, he’s done tremendous things for snowboarding and his new Jones snowboard line gives freeriding a revival in snowboarding. It was rad that he also knew of shayboarder.com (I was stunned) and had great things to say about this site.
