It’s been a busy last couple days of traveling but I finally made it to Lake Tahoe! It’s good to be back to return to the Snowcial Conference. My first stop was Sierra at Tahoe where I could spend the day lapping the mountain and getting my snowboard feet back under me. I have two friends that work at Sierra in marketing so it was good to catch up and see them for the day. Since it was midweek, there were no lines and I was able to just cruise around exploring until Steve was able to join me for laps at the end of the day. The conditions were hardpacked but definitely a deep base from the earlier snow that Tahoe had received. Towards the end of the day, Steven Hemphill joined me for a couple laps. He runs the PR at Sierra at Tahoe and is a super fun guy to be around. I tried to capture him on camera but he’s so dang fast unless he’s on a rail. Ended the afternoon with a much needed happy hour sushi stop before heading to Snowcial to check in for the conference. Good way to start the Lake Tahoe […]

Shay: Tell us a little bit about yourself Steven: I was born and raised in Colorado and have always been surrounded by the outdoors and the mountains. I went to college in Iowa for one year until I realized it wasn’t for me and moved back to Colorado where I attended The University of Colorado. While in school I worked at a local ski/snowboard shop for four years and was also an intern at TransWorld Business. After graduating with a degree in communication, I moved to Vail where I spent a season eating ramen, living in a basement and doing the ski-bum thing. When I realized it was time to grow-up so I applied for a job with Freeskier Magazine. It was through luck and some very good references that I was fortunate enough to be hired as an Associate Editor. After a season at Freeskier, I moved to Tahoe […]

The weather in Lake Tahoe can switch rapidly. One day it’ll be bare roads with spring like slushy conditions and a couple days later it’ll be dumping snow with a total winter appearance. I made sure that I was in Tahoe for Monday morning’s storm and heading to Sierra at Tahoe for the day. Sierra at Tahoe is just down the highway from South Lake Tahoe. The snow report was saying 6 inches but it definitely felt like more out on the mountain and the snow kept coming down. Thankfully Lauren was our tour guide for the day and immediately brought us to West Bowl for powder turns. The latest storm […]
