Currently Riding: Two planks Currently I am: Traveling… In Colorado for some family fun, then off to South America for a little beach time, then back home to Tahoe. Shay: Tell us a little bit about yourself Steven: I was born and raised in Colorado and have always been surrounded by the outdoors and the mountains. I went to college in Iowa for one year until I realized it wasn’t for me and moved back to Colorado where I attended The University of Colorado. While in school I worked at a local ski/snowboard shop for four years and was also an intern at TransWorld Business. After graduating with a degree in communication, I moved to Vail where I spent a season eating ramen, living in a basement and doing the ski-bum thing. When I realized it was time to grow-up so I applied for a job with Freeskier Magazine. It was through luck and some very good references that I was fortunate enough to be hired as an Associate Editor. After a season at Freeskier, I moved to Tahoe […]

I was born and raised on the east coast in Massachusetts. Neither of my parents were really into skiing or snowboarding and since western mass isn’t exactly ski country I had to push to get into the sport. I started off as a skier and spent my first days ever on snow in the fifth grade at our local “mountain” (RIP Mt. Tom) but after two times on skis I traded them in for a snowboard and never looked back. For the majority of my years as a snowboarder I was lucky if I got out five times a winter. Now I look back on the past season and I’m like, really? I only got in 60 days? It’s easy to get spoiled living out west and working in the industry but I never take for granted how lucky I am to be doing something I […]

It’s not every day that the dream job of being a snow bum and making 10,000 a month comes alive – but this year Canyons recognized the power of online media when they offered the perfect job and home for this winter. A couple weeks ago I saw the job and was blown away by how rad it sounded, it’s a dream for many skiers and snowboarders and now one lucky person will live the dream. Canyons is offering up the Ultimate Mountain Gig Contest with a deadline just weeks away. It looks like you can come to expect more from the Canyons and I can’t wait to see how this Ultimate Mountain Gig pans out for one lucky skier or snowboarder. Joe Johnson from the Canyons marketing staff was kindly enough to help with finding out more about the Ultimate Mountain Gig and with my own curiousity what this entails for the Canyons.
