Shay: Tell us about yourself Nico: Hi, my name is Nico! I am 31 years old already. I am French but since I have lived many years in Switzerland I also have a Swiss passport. I had the opportunity to travel quite a bit as a kid and then as a student, moving around every 2 to 3 years from one European city to another (Zurich, Milan, London, Zagreb, Dortmund, Paris, Grenoble, Lyon, Ljubljana, and now Geneva). It’s a pretty sick experience because I got to discover cultures, learn some languages and meet lots of people. But going to the mountains has always been part of my life and when I discovered snowboarding in the early 90’s in my home resort of Leysin, I got totally addicted. [singlepic id=4731 w=400 h=300 float=] Shay: What was your first set up? Nico: My first ever board was a Santa Cruz ASR 163! Asymmetric! I rode Santa Cruz bindings and Sorel boots! Shay: What is your current set up? Nico: I am pretty lucky to have a couple of decks now so I can switch according to the conditions. For example I rode this Furlan 176cm board in the deep pow we got […]

Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to meet and ride with Vancity Allie during my visit to Whistler, BC. Allie does an amazing blog on Vancouver living, snowboarder with awesome videos, photographs to die for and if you are a fan of Twilight, she’s got the stage covered! It’s rad to meet fellow bloggers who are passionate about what they do and fun in person…Allie was both of those. We met up and spent the afternoon riding at Whistler right before my trip ended. I took photos of her riding and filming and she took film of us hanging out. Here’s the video she made and definitely worth checking out!

Each journalist is powerful in the words that they write, the impressions they make and the final touch they bring to a story, a product or a picture. Many of the most popular blogs in the snowboard industry or beyond are respected because they don’t follow the trend. They have their own voice that isn’t paid for, marketing language or to sell a product. Each day there is a choice on what to blog about and what not to blog about. [singlepic id=5255 w=400 h=266 float=] Within my own blog, I have found a voice and a need to bring an unbiased opinion to the masses on snowboarding. If it’s not related to snowboarding, or in my opinion related to it, it won’t get a mention. During SIA, I visited companies I was interested in and was able to meet with. Some companies I was interested in but missed out on meeting with and others I chose to not meet with because I don’t agree with what they are. I didn’t meet with Ed Hardy or Bitchboards or companies that create a binding that turns so you skate easier. Last I checked snowboarding didn’t need those things. Many major companies […]

The trip is winding down and coming to an end with today being the last day of snowboarding before traveling back to Colorado. This trip hasn’t been about the nightlife, but just enjoying friends company and snowboarding together. Today we were up early, to pack our gear up and get out of the condo for a day of riding. Evo and Shayboarder stickering up the mountain [singlepic id=5383 w=400 h=300 float=] I hit up the mountain with Mike, Kendra and BJ to hit up the demos and try out boards again. Today I rode the Bataleon Riot and Drake DF One. All of the boards plus others will be coming up in reviews soon. I come to Telus Festival to ride the demo days, unlike other demo days they tend to be shorter and I end up taking the boards for only 2 runs each because of the lack of time and length it takes to get each one done. I was hoping to ride a Burton as the third board today, but the reps closed it off at noon and my monster jacket was not winning them over.
