When I first saw the mock-up drawing for the Third Shift contest, I was pretty much blown away. It meant constructing a town square in the terrain park that was literally a urban jump/jib contest over and onto buildings. For the northwest, it was pretty rad to see freestyle progression come here and be on the slopes so anyone could watch. This was an event that would push progression for local skiers and riders. Earlier this week, I joined on to contribute to Teton Gravity Research so I’ll be working with them to take photos and share different stories than I would post on Shayboarder.com. The Red Bull Third Shift article for TGR is here, so definitely check it out. I headed up to Snoqualmie early so I could get in some powder turns before the event. I just didn’t imagine that the mountain received 2 feet of snow but by the time I arrived, there was still powder turns to be enjoyed. With all the new snow, the Summit at Snoqualmie park crew did a great job of maintaining the features and making sure it was rideable. By the time I arrived at the top of the jump course, […]

Of all the contests I’ve done on Shayboarder.com, the twitter giveaways have been a great way to get people in various cities to win a snowboard. Today was the 5th twitter givewaway from shayboarder.com, which took place in Los Angeles proper. I started posting clues at 12pm on twitter that would help people find my location. Whoever found me first got the 11-12 Arbor Formula snowboard! A huge thanks to Arbor Snowboards for putting up the 11-12 Arbor Formula for the giveaway! For the first time in the Twitter Giveaways, I picked a location and came up with the clues a week before the giveaway. I was really stoked on the spot and it ended up being a fun place to hang out for two hours while we tweeted out the clues. I had my friend Adina come along for moral support/snowboard bodyguard/backup phone/camera person and she did a great job for entertainment during the two hours. [singlepic id=12378 w=300 h=533 float=] I started tweeting out clues at 12pm (PST) in hopes that on a Saturday traffic wouldn’t be too bad and it was manageable to find me within a reasonable time. 1. You can find me east of I […]

The first of thirteen stops on the Peanut Butter and Rail Jam went down in Mammoth today under bluebird skies and plenty of crowds watching the action from the sundeck. Riders competed in different heats to prove their skills worthy enough of the Championships that will return to Mammoth in May. There were three lines of features for the riders to hit and each rider had to hit all three to be considered. [singlepic id=10310 w=500 h=333 float=] I got a late start to the morning but was able to watch the women’s and men’s open heats compete, grab some shots and head onto the slopes myself for a great day to be outside snowboarding.
