Each year the snowboard magazines decide their top snowboard choices by designing boards tests built around various methodologies. Snowboard Magazine has their Platinum Pick describes as the “best of the best. Here you find out our choices for best jib boards, best powder boards and just plain best things…” The test is ultimately “not a product test, rather a look around the industry to see who is pushing design, materials, fashion and technology.” In fact they completely reach out and discuss product tests saying that it’s up to you, the rider, to determine if a board works for you…not some product test. So the platinum picks are really just top choices to consider for the upcoming year. I do wish for the sake of women’s snowboarding, that in the future there will be women’s models included. Of the 11 winning boards, I’ve only ridden five of the boards (some in previous years). The list is a mix of popular boards like the Machete, Cobra, Jamie Lynn Phoenix but also some new choices to consider like the Sims and Endeavor. The list also seems very focused on boards that aren’t just park or powder but a good all-mountain/freestyle collection mix. Snowboard […]

Of the ten winning boards, I’ve ridden six of them (some in previous years). When I compare the results to last year’s test 8 out […]

I’ve gone through the Good Wood and the Best Of which means it’s onto the final test brought to you by Snowboard Magazine with their annual Platinum Pick. The Platinum Pick test took three of Snowboard Magazine’s editors as the testers (1 female Tawyna Schultz and 2 males, Nate Deschenes and Chris Owen) who ride different terrain to judge the boards to find winners. The result is the best of the best according to Snowboard Mag. The Platinum Pick methology is unclear in the article so you don’t know how many boards were brought to the table or what the conditions are. I did find it funny that when I read the article they mention 15 boards but only 14 winners were listed so not sure what happened there or if i’m missing something. You have a better understanding of who the testers than previous years but no preferences/stats/info about them. The addition of women’s boards in the test is two thumbs up in my book, excited to see Tawyna test and take the lead on bringing out women’s boards into the limelight. [singlepic id=6296 w=227 h=205 float=] I’ve ridden 6 of the 14 boards so far and would definitely […]

Each year the snowboard magazines decide their top snowboard choices by designing boards tests built around various methodologies. Snowboard Magazine has their Platinum Pick which focuses on the “all-around” board and the list is out for the 2010 Platinum Pick winners. The Platinum Pick methology brings 70 boards to the table (2 all-around boards from each company, roughly 35 companies or so) and tests them at various mountains (Stevens Pass, Keystone, Silverton, Stowe) in multiple conditions throughout the season. Who the testers are is unclear, so we have no concrete idea of who the preferences/stats/rider info but these boards stand out from the masses in the test. Finally they only offer men’s boards in the dirty dozen, even though I ride men’s boards I find that ignoring women’s boards isn’t a step in the right direction. [singlepic id=6296 w=227 h=205 float=] Out of the dirty dozen, I’ve ridden 4 of these boards and 1 board I’m sure is the same construction than when I rode it previously. With the 4 boards I have ridden (Park Pickle, Indoor Survival, Evo-R, Skate Banana, Extr-eco) I certainly would ride them all for all around riding, some are on the stiffer side and […]
