Over the weekend I headed up to Jackson Hole on an impromptu trip to the Bluebird Movie Premiere. It was 24 hours in Jackson Hole and 8 hours of driving to get there…but totally worth it. So the trip started because Willie McMillion started a post on Snowboard Mag about Nic Drago needed a ride or way to get to the bluebird premiere. I had considered going to the premiere so it wasn’t a hard choice to throw out the “lets carpool up from Breck” option. My only concern was a place to stay in Jackson, but Nic Drago said there was room so it was good to go. We left Breck early Saturday morning for the long 8 hour drive through Colorado and Wyoming up to Jackson Hole. This trip for me was about putting faces to names. It was cool because everyone I’ve met I had heard of them or read about them in magazines but never have met them. So just the opportunity of meeting them was great. Also it’s supporting a company that I use, I’ve used bluebird wax and especially the soy wax for the last couple years on my boards. We made it to […]

Last night was the Rome Any Means premiere here in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It was definitely worth checking out. The night started with the F.O.D.T. Cold World film first and definitely had the urban rails and gansta riders in it. It was really cool to see though and some great footage, great rail riding as well. It was a little too gold chain bling for me though. But I do love to see MFM ride in any film. Once Any Means came on, it had my attention from start to finish and I definitely plan to purchase a copy for the house. It kept the rome attitude and vibe in it and that’s a good thing. It also has some great riders who aren’t as well-known. My favorite part was the Flophouse footage, you could tell how much fun it was to be around and man they really partied it up there on film. My favorite sequence was after the Flophouse when they showed some good riding footage in great spots and fun to watch. One thing I noticed in the film was every rider rode a variety of Rome boards. They didn’t stick to just one model and that […]

You’ll notice that around this time I try my best to make it to as many snowboard premieres as possible. Sometimes it means seeing both snowboard and skiing films like TGR and Warren Miller. Last night I gladly accepted the invitation to go watch the new Warren Miller film “Playground” rather than watch the Rockies in the World Series. Some choices are tough…but I can watch sports highlights another time. I really enjoyed the opening with the Guns N’ Roses “Welcome to the Jungle” I really got pumped up and stoked on it…but it didn’t keep that high long. I thought everything in between the opening and ending was okay…but not spectacular. The last time I checked out a Warren Miller film was years ago and the narrative by Warren Miller always made it feel good and down to earth. Plus he made it cool. This narrative was mostly by Jonny Moseley and a little bit by Warren Miller. Jonny didn’t compare to the sound of Warren Miller or bring the same warmth that he brings to his films. The highlights that I appreciated were the Dubai skiing. I mean really it was cool to see them doing the “first […]

Last night at the Steamboat Film Festival was the premiere of Teton Gravity Research’s Lost and Found. It was awesome since a great amount of riders and skiers came to view it. TGR put on the most pumped up, exceptional ski/snowboard movie. The soundtrack was awesome, a great variety of music styles and really I was moving to the music the entire premiere which is awesome when a film gets you pumped up like that. The riding was amazing, with riders like Jeremy Jones and Victoria Jealouse of course it’s gonna have some great lines and great locations. I’d have to say the skiing impressed me the most, some of the terrain being skied down was incredible especially the line at Jackson Hole. I think my jaw dropped seeing the skier hit it…luckily he had a parachute. The terrain park in europe with the hole was killer to watch the 3 skiers hit each jump. That’s in the teaser below and just the beauty and awesomeness of it is so fun! Also seeing the adaptive skier hitting lines of powder after becoming paralyzed…stuff like that really blows your mind as to never giving up and keep riding. I did laugh […]

Tonight was First Tracks Productions premiere of “Hello my name is” at the Steamboat Film Festival. Even for a Thursday night, it wasn’t a bad crowd for the premiere. Enjoyed the company of good friends and beer. The first film was a ski movie around the freeskiing championships called linescore. Some serious terrain riding and fun to watch. It was really a documentary so you know it was pretty long but some good stuff in it. By the time “Hello my name is” came on I was stoked and ready to go! I had the chance to view it before the premiere but I wanted to see it in the theatre. I’m a huge fan of AC’s videos so far and I own all of them (now I gotta pick up this copy too). It didn’t disappoint at all. The music rocked and got me pumped up for the snowboarding segments…which I always love when a movie has good music to get you stoked. The assortment of riding locations was cool to check out: SLC, BC, SLT, Finland. And the riding was a good mixture of park and backcountry, groomers and pipe. It had everything that anyone could want. As […]

So Friday night here in Steamboat Springs, Colorado was the Capita First Kiss video premiere. I made my way down to the Mountain Theatre with a good friend to go check it out. While waiting for the fun to begin and enjoying my newcastle brown ale…they showed the local slednecks clips which were pretty cool to watch, especially since it’s local snowmobilers jumping over the train tracks while a train is underneath…pretty cool! The starter video was a local ski/snowboard/snowmobile video that was pretty good, had some great riding shots in and decent music. I gotta figure out what one of the songs is…caught my attention as a good snowboard pipe riding song for my ipod. The only downside is snowmobiling is fun but seeing the same drop 10x over and over gets boring quick. After watching one of the teasers and hearing some other feedback from an earlier premiere that First Kiss was an artsy film. Either way it was a snowboard film and by a company I support so I was happy to see it. I liked the movie. One thing I dislike about snowboard movies now is how generic they get, the same stuff over and over…without […]
