Intended Purpose: The Smarty Original Cargo snowboard pant started it all with the smarty series. Highly waterproof and breathable with a ton of pockets to store everything you need on the mountain. Fit: The original cargo pants have the baggy fit to them in usual 686 standard sizing. Baggier all around feel and super comfortable if you like baggy. Appearance: I really liked the bright cayan colorway on the original cargo pants and figured the bright look would go great with the darker plexus sonar softshell jacket I have. I have noticed with the amount of sunny days in CA that the lower portion of the pants have faded a touch versus the pant portion that’s hidden underneath my jacket. The inner pants can be used as pajama pants which helps when you forget yours or don’t expect to crash somewhere and have pajamas. In terms of material, the pants are nylon solid oxford so not a slick material like my last smarty pants and they work just fine for the snow conditions. Features: The smarty original cargo pants features 15,000mm waterproofing and 10,000mm breathability which worked great for Mammoth conditions this year. I wondered how the waterproofing would hold […]

Intended Purpose: The Smarty 2.5 complete ply pant offers a high waterproofing and breathability rating, fleece and thermal inner liner to help keep you layered on the mountain when you need it. Fit: The 2.5 complete ply pants are a 686 regular fit. At first when I got them I didn’t like the fit, I thought they were too fitted around the knees than I would have liked but a more fitted pant than the baggy fits I was used to. At the end of the season, these ended up being my go-to pant and the fitted pants won me over. Appearance: I have always had a black backup pant and the smarty 2.5 complete series was perfect as that go-to black pant for the season. After wearing them in the sun all summer I did notice the color fading from so much sun. Overall I like the cargo pockets on the pants since they close by zipper and velcro so nothing gets out. The inner pants can be used as pajama pants which helps when you forget yours or don’t expect to crash somewhere and have pajamas. In terms of material this was one thing I wasn’t a fan […]

Intended Purpose: The Analog Perimeter snowboard pants are meant to keep you dry on the slopes with 1oK waterproofing (best in Colorado) and fully taped seams. The Perimeter pants have a baggy fit, pockets for everything and ventilation to help keep you riding on the slopes without needing to come inside. Fit: The Analog Perimeter pants are baggy which makes them ideal for me since that’s what I prefer. I rock the men’s pants which keeps them baggy on me and fits my hips just how I like them. The length of the pants is always an issue when wearing men’s pants and that just means you can only see the toe of my boots from underneath my pants. Appearance: The reason I picked up the perimeter pants is the color first and it matched the specs I needed second. The color was everything, I liked the bright red and thought it’d match most of my jackets good enough that I could get out from the black snowboard pant box. The cargo pockets have a slim profile so when nothing is in them, you barely notice them. The AG sayings are all over the pant and at first that […]

In December last year I had to buy snowboard pants at the last minute since my older 686 pants were ripped up in the pant legs (I warrantied them soon after). I picked up the 686 Smarty Complete 2.5 Ply Snowboard Pants. They are the men’s snowboard pants, I prefer baggy pants and after trying them on, they fit me around the hips and waist with the baggy feel so I got them. I don’t expect pants to last 100 days and I have yet to see pants last 100 days without any major wear and tear. I also know that because I wear them baggy, that the bottom of the pant legs can become ripped easier and drag along the ground since they are too long for me. So definitely note that these pants are longer than I need, but I prefer them that way. That is the only thing I have fixed on these pants is the rear middle belt loop which I had to sew up to continue riding in them. Since December, they have been my main snowboard pant on the mountain and now they have finally hit 100 days just in time to check out […]

So this summer I picked up the 686 Mannual Pants for pretty cheap at the Christy tent sale. Well they lasted about 30 days into snowboarding and now are totally torn up. I knew when I got them that since they are super baggy on me that the bottoms would tear up and be like my last current pants. Here’s a picture of them perfectly brand new So I had to retire them. I took some pictures of how they look now. The first thing to go was the bottom seam around the base, once that went…then the side seam broke on the pants and basically looked like hippie flared pants now. The right pant leg. You can see the seam is completely splitting. The left pant leg. Doing a lot better because it’s still holding at the bottom but once the last seam breaks it’ll completely break the seam going up the pant leg. Since these pants were gone and snow getting in the pant was an issue. I am keeping them around for spring riding and i’ll probably duct tape the bottom so it lasts a bit longer. I did replace the pants with 686 Smarty Original Cargo […]
