Snowcial was winding down on Saturday but it meant the perfect timing for a full day on the slopes with everyone who attended the conference. I worked in the morning before heading onto the slopes to join the group for lunch and Epic Mix Racing. I hadn’t tried Epic Mix Racing yet but after the first lap and then more laps, it started getting addicting as I tried to beat my previous times and ride better against Lars. He was killing me on time. My only goal was to try to get lower than 20. Digi Dave was very serious about the Epic Mix Racing and required the tightest speed suit to get it done. We ended up getting this photo at lunch. After racing, we ended up doing pipe and park laps. It was a good way to end the day and after riding pipe the last couple days, finally started to air out again. In the evening, everyone came together for a dinner and awards. It was a blast catching up with everyone and watching the awards get handed out. The drinking out of the boot required more drinking out of the boot (rental boots) and I […]

From late nights to early mornings, Snowcial is one of the most fun conferences for winter sports marketing. It was definitely good to be hanging back with familiar faces and friends for the weekend. Friday was a morning of presentations before hitting the slopes in the afternoon. Friday morning speakers were Greg Cannon from Caesars entertainment, Stanley Hainesworth from Tether, Christopher Steiner from Forbes, Patrick Harrington from Walmart Labs and Grant Korgan from Korg 3.0 Movement. The authentic, positive and amazing outlook from Grant Korgan really set the tone for the day. He had been seriously injured in a snowmobile accident, lost the use of his legs and has worked hard to accomplish all the same goals and create new ones. He spoke such sweet words about his wife, “She stood by me when her man couldn’t stand for himself” during the speech. After the presentations, I joined a crew for lunch before heading onto the slopes in the afternoon. It was super warm on the mountain and conditions were actually slushy. But it was a good day to be in the sun with a crew lapping the mountain before heading in for apres. For apres, we went to unbuckled […]

You can always count on Snowcial to bring together creative minds, social skills and skiers/snowboarders to Heavenly Resort. Last year I got my first taste of it and this year, I attended the welcome party and one day of snowboarding to celebrate the fun event. Unfortunately I couldn’t attend the whole weekend of events since I’m traveling up to Washington but the 24 hours with everyone was a blast. Last night, Snowcial kicked off with the welcome party and poker tournament at Harvey’s Resort in South Lake Tahoe. The hashtag #snowcial has been blowing up with resort and industry skiers and snowboarders making their way to the event. I headed to the event with Ashley Smith who is now working at Heavenly. [singlepic id=12878 w=500 h=500 float=] The fun part of the night is always catching up, meeting new people and playing in the Poker Tournament. This year I did much better at the Blackjack but really sucked at the Poker Tournament. It was a blast being able to hang out with Chris Rudolph from Stevens Pass, Joe Johnson from the Canyons, the marketing team and my buddy Ashley from Heavenly, Harvey and Henrik from Freeskier Magazine, Jon from Snowboard […]

Last Friday I had the amazing opportunity to be the keynote speaker at Snowcial’s Blog University. The Tahoe Snowcial is where technology, community and snowsports meet up and it begins on January 6th in South Lake Tahoe. The Blog University portion included a lot of questions regarding blogging and focused on how Snow Sports and Travel bloggers, and any blogger for that matter, can grow their audience and maximize their voice. It was my first time speaking in public about my blog experience and sharing my story about shayboarder.com. I really want to thank Jon Burns and Laura Cochran for making it happen. [singlepic id=10327 w=1000 h=622 float=] I arrived on Thursday night just in time to catch up with Jon and Laura but also have some fun with the Porters Tahoe crew (with a fun write up so click on them) and Fran Richards from Spy. The vibe from Snowcial was really amazing and I definitely hope to attend the full conference in the future. Friday morning kicked off with the Blog University in the morning where I was able to meet new faces and familiar faces from twitter like Skiingexaminer’s Eric Wagnon. After I spoke, I listened to […]

This has been an amazing winter so far. Moving to California has exceeded all my dreams in terms of the mountain, the job and a fresh start. One of the rad things coming up is being part of the Tahoe Snowcial in a few weeks. The Tahoe Snowcial is where technology, community and snowsports meet up and it begins on January 6th in South Lake Tahoe. It’s a rad conference with four days of events including a day of speakers and lots of snowboarding. On Friday January 7th, Snowcial will host Blog University which focuses on, ” How Snow Sports and Travel bloggers, and any blogger for that matter, can grow their audience and maximize their voice.” I’m excited to be able to head to Snowcial to participate in part of the conference but the main reason I’ll be there is to be the keynote speaker at the Blog University. I’m really excited to tell my story about shayboarder.com and my experiences in blogging so far. Of course I’m nervous but really stoked for the opportunity and it gives me a chance to check out Snowcial! [singlepic id=10327 w=1000 h=622 float=] If you are coming to Snowcial hope to see […]
