It’s pretty amazing to attend the SIA Tradeshow each year. It really boils down to a great experience because of the people you meet who run the industry, the products that come out after years of hard work and the amount of fun each night at the parties. By the time the on-snow rolls around, you finally get to take laps with your friends and really judge the products on the snow where they are meant to be ridden. This year was 4 days inside and 2 days outside on the snow, 6 days of a lot of hard work for Shayboarder.com. It’s really rad to meet everyone who supports Shayboarder.com and feel part of this industry. If you missed the individual posts, here is day 1, day 2, day 3 and day 4. Over the next couple months, you’ll see 4 days of SIA in product write-ups that dive into each company and the products they have created for 2013. I’ve been really impressed with the level of tech and new ideas coming out this year. It was a great show to be at and the products speak for themselves. I made sure to meet with the brands you […]

I can always count on the SIA Tradeshow to be an amazing experience. SIA at Denver keeps products close to the mountain and fun parties with great people. Day four of the show was finishing up booth visits, getting the last catalogs and photos before heading out to the on-snow for the next couple days at Winter Park. POW gloves keeping up with rad designs and gloves that offer Gore Tex so your hands stay dry on the mountain. [singlepic id=12972 w=500 h=500 float=] Spy Goggles keeps up the good work with a lot of great pro rider and artist series for creativity. [singlepic id=12970 w=500 h=500 float=] The crew at Flux Bindings were definitely the friendliest of the show. Props to them for keeping their bindings super comfortable and bright for 2013. [singlepic id=12968 w=500 h=500 float=] Offering up another way to get into the backcountry, MTN Approach at SIA keeps it simple with a ski that folds up and fits easily into a backpack. Only 4lbs of weight for each ski. [singlepic id=12967 w=500 h=500 float=] Pretty rad to see Venture Snowboards playing around with shapes build for feet of pow and mountain riding while continuing their signature […]

After a long night of partying, Day three kicked off with a much needed can of Red Bull, comfortable shoes and something permanent that I’ll never forget. By the time the third day generally hits, you are a bit more tired but it’s well worth the lack of sleep for a whole lotta fun at SIA. Arnette is hosting the beats, brews and tattoos at SIA during the show. I watched the tattoo artist do his work and checked out the goggle line. They have one new model this year that I can’t wait to try out! [singlepic id=12962 w=500 h=500 float=] Yesterday I sent the artwork to the tattoo artist at Arnette see if he could do it and this morning started the day getting ink thanks to Arnette (huge thanks!). This is my third tattoo that I have but my first snowboarding specific one. For a couple years, I’ve wanted to get this tattoo done and I couldn’t turn away a free tattoo to do it. [singlepic id=12950 w=500 h=500 float=] Years ago when I saw the Scott Lenhardt Craig Kelly Mural, I was in love with it. The shadow of Craig on the top of the mountain […]

At SIA, the days are long but well worth it because of the amount of fun that’s going to happen. Day two started early with a SIA seminar, continued throughout with appointments and ended into the night with the Transworld Riders Poll. It was the longest day of the tradeshow and probably the most fun with everyone attending. I arrived early at the tradeshow at 7:30am to listen to the SIA breakfast seminar on women in skiing and snowboarding. Speakers included a great list of women in the industry including Donna Carpenter from Burton and Kyre Malkenes from Roxy Snowboards. It was an interesting discussion that covered what they’ve done in their experiences and a variety of concerns for getting women into our sports. [singlepic id=12926 w=500 h=500 float=] Pete from Unity Snowboards has a pretty sweet gig with his boards built in Silverthorne, Colorado. The Unity line for 2013 offers up the Whale snowboard in a splitboard and regular version. [singlepic id=12927 w=500 h=500 float=] Jess Kimura, Pat Bridges and T-Bird hanging out at the show [singlepic id=12945 w=500 h=500 float=] The always popular Lib Tech Snowboards continuing with Banana, EC2, C2 and radness.
Disneyland may be the happiest place on earth and Windell’s may be the funnest place on earth but for someone who loves snowboarding gear, the raddest place is the SIA show. The SIA Snow Show is when the next year’s gear is released to the industry and in four days, you can see a whole lot of brands and people who makes those brands possible. This will be my second year attending on behalf of Shayboarder.com as a media member and a chance for me to sit down with companies to see the latest products that they’ll be releasing for the winter of 2010-2011. I want to know from you what companies you would like me to meet with, check out the lines and do write up’s on. I’ll work my hardest to make sure I check them out and your input gives me a better idea of what companies are the focus for you…the most important people to this blog. To see a full list of exhibitors, click here and select show all. [singlepic id=7284 w=400 h=300 float=] For those who haven’t been checking out shayboarder.com that long, SIA is when I do daily write ups from the tradeshow […]

Shay: So tell us about yourself? MC: I’m never good at this part… I’m 37, grew up in Annapolis, MD, went to college in PA, lived in CO for two years, then ended up back here in DC. I love traveling, dinner with friends, eating great food, dry-aged rib eye steaks, red wine, chocolate, skiing, tennis, sailing, shopping, trash tabloids, Paris and black labs. I drive a Prius – trying to do a little to save the polar bears. Shay: What is your job title? MC: Associate Director Trade Marketing & Member Services [singlepic id=5159 w=300 h=400 float=] Shay: Did your parents question your job choice? MC: Never – they think it’s excellent, plus it’s a great excuse for them to go skiing every year. Shay: What was your first set up? MC: Red Hart skis and hammy down blue ski boots. Favorite ski outfit growing up – first pair of Spyder stretch race pants, followed by raspberry CB down jacket and CB “powder pants” Shay: What is your current set up? MC: Nordica Speed Machines from a couple years ago – need to get some new skis for 2010. But have also been skiing on the Dynastar Powder Legends […]
