The good news? The mountain is open. The bad news? Holiday crowds are riding limited terrain and manmade snow conditions. Today we headed up together for laps but stuck to South Park to ride the park. It’s frustrating because I’d love to ride other stuff but there’s really nothing open other than parks and riding outside of parks in my opinion is a recipe for injury. There are so many people on the limited runs that you feel like you will hit at any moment. We didn’t last long, just a couple hours and called it when the lines got long after lunch. Today I tried out the Spy Platoon goggles on the mountain. Here’s my best impression of the view, it’s like being in a big fishbowl with a huge view of the world. The peripheral is good but the vision from cheeks to forehead is insane. I’ll be out riding tomorrow to get my fix but probably skipping out the rest of this week. It’s just too busy and not enough snow to make it worth going.

Exactly one year ago today, I was riding over three feet of snow and this year I’m riding manmade snow with really sketchy conditions. It’s pretty crazy the variety of seasons that can come to Mammoth. I’ve been out of town the last couple days to spend time with family and came back to a busy Mammoth Mountain. Kicked off the shoes and put on the boots at chair 4 to avoid the crowds. Instead of walking on snow to get to the lifts, it’s dirt and mud. It’s pretty eye opening to see how much snow you are riding on top of and it’s not much right now. I met up with the skier and we ended up lapping South Park for most of the day. The park has a mix of jumps to a couple rails with the Jamie Lynn artwork and then a roller rhythm section that is a disaster waiting to happen. People would take them too deep and end up crashing hard in the flats. I had to laugh at the Spy Les Ettes goggle strap I’ve been rocking…pretty funny to wear that in the lift lines. Be on the lookout for a review of […]

It’s been busy back at Mammoth but getting out on a ride break at lunch always make the day better. I headed out for a couple laps with Ashley, Jade and a couple others. It was a beautiful day on the mountain and perfect for laps through the South Park pipe, Art Park and mini Park. Jade getting some air in South Park [singlepic id=10731 w=1000 h=667 float=] Pretty quiet day for taking pictures on the mountain but all in good fun just being out enjoying turns.

Usually I don’t get out on the snow till Tuesday so wasn’t sure if we’d find some powder after Monday’s powder day but the good news was the mountain still had some stashes to be enjoyed. I headed out with Dan for a couple mid day laps for our lunch break and to check out the runs near Canyon Lodge including the smaller Wonderland terrain park. [singlepic id=10292 w=500 h=281 float=] Love looking back and seeing my line as the only line in snow…on a run I totally randomly had no idea how I ended up on it [singlepic id=10291 w=300 h=533 float=] Cruising the groomers [singlepic id=10290 w=500 h=281 float=]

Just a sunday in the park at Mammoth Mountain. Got the wake up call from Pat this morning telling me to get up, enjoy the sunshine snowboarding before the storm rolls into town. He had a good point so I got my gear, grabbed breakfast and parked the car at Chair #2 to meet up with him. Lazy sunday on the mountain [singlepic id=10278 w=500 h=281 float=] We hit up Forest Trail park off of chair #6 for the morning, headed over to South Park for a little bit and then back to Forest Trail. I’m starting to jump again so I like Forest Trail versus stepping it up bigger in South Park. We just kept lapping and the best part was there was really no one at Main Park/Forest Trail so we just cruised. [singlepic id=10280 w=500 h=281 float=] Pat trying out a wicked narrow stance for a couple runs [singlepic id=10279 w=500 h=281 float=] Ended the day as the clouds started to come in and now watching it snow outside. Tomorrow looks like a powder day in Mammoth!

After yesterday’s riding, I was expecting today to be much of the same low visibility, overcast weather but when I looked outside at lunch the sun was shining! It was easy to head out onto the slopes with my co-worker Justin for a couple laps. We headed over to South Park to check out the features in that terrain park and meet up with my friend Daniel for some turns. [singlepic id=10255 w=1000 h=563 float=] Today was trying out the Arbor Formula with the Mountain system, I had to MacGyver shit up since my screws are longer than the inserts on the Arbor, you’d be amazed at how good paperclips are for washers. It’s been interesting this winter not having as many demos nearby but being able to borrow boards directly from companies or reps. I really appreciate it when I can borrow gear because it helps get reviews on here and now each board gets more days on them! [singlepic id=10253 w=1000 h=563 float=] Daniel on the rainbow rail just a tap tap tapperoo though! [singlepic id=10254 w=1000 h=563 float=] We might be in Mammoth but he’s bringing the Method out! [singlepic id=10256 w=1000 h=563 float=] Some tailgrab […]
