I won’t call this the last day of the season yet because I know that come September a day trip down to Timberline would be worth it but it’s the last day for me as of right now. My knees feel sore but my heart is still wanting more of the mountain. The park has been a blast with the two halfpipes and being able to lap Palmer chairlift until the lifts close at 1:30pm. Since the camps have ended I’ve met some great people on the mountain and become more familiar with faces I’ve seen all summer. It’s down to the last bunch of riders sticking it out before moving on. Today we made laps with the Caked Snowboard crew who have been here all summer living the dream with my friends Julie and Geoff. [singlepic id=9892 w=600 h=450 float=] Matt in the minipipe [singlepic id=9893 w=600 h=450 float=] For snowboarders there are two fun laps at Timberline right now. You have option A which is to jib the rocks, hit the kickers along the run and spin/press/butter your heart out down the mountain or option B which is the mogul line, once the racers leave and the snow […]

So far this has been the best and also the longest season I’ve had which is making it hard to come back to reality but I know the time is coming soon. Today was day 150 of the season, it’s so crazy that I’ve spent almost half my year snowboarding but I feel incredibly lucky to experience it. [singlepic id=9887 w=300 h=533 float=] Every morning at Timberline begins in the parking lot where you see familiar faces, listen to music and get your gear ready for the day. This morning I recognized a familiar face but couldn’t place how I knew him. Eventually on the mountain I said hello and realized it was Matt from Leavenworth. I had met him and his girl Victoria a couple years ago through the blog so it was rad piecing that together. We ended up making laps for the day and caught some photos of him. [singlepic id=9888 w=600 h=338 float=] Snow conditions at Timberline are still holding up great especially for park laps on Palmer chairlift. The mini pipe and halfpipe were so much fun just cruising through.
Normally I don’t take off the weekend from blogging it up but the last 36 hours I was in a car driving from Oregon to Colorado and then back from Colorado to Oregon with no more than 20 minutes out of the vehicle the whole time. It was operation bring my dog home to the Northwest and it was successful! We arrived back in Oregon at 3am but that didn’t mean today wasn’t a shred day, a couple hours of sleep later and we were on the chairlift getting turns in at Timberline. [singlepic id=9883 w=400 h=533 float=] The mountain is very very quiet except for those who live here or those who are still sticking around enjoying it. I’m the latter, just enjoying it but definitely ready to enjoy a fall break from snowboarding soon. I’ve got friends Julie, Geoff and Erin in town so we headed up to the mountain in the late morning. Public park is up and with a ton of features since they took over the HCSC park including the mini pipe and halfpipe plus jumps plus rails/boxes.
The last couple days have been a whirlwind of fun here at Mt Hood, Oregon. My time at Windells Camp came to an end which meant celebrating with the staff party, then packing everything up to move out of the ark. I ended up not going far since I’ll be staying in Govy the next couple days to enjoy some quiet shred time on the mountain before moving around again. Today was windy on the mountain but luckily the mountain did open for operations and that meant an afternoon of shred! [singlepic id=9875 w=400 h=533 float=] Now that the camps are done, Timberline is your own playground. The public park has taken over HCSC’s park and looks to be opening up tomorrow hopefully. It’s definitely the best time to be on the mountain, no lines, great people and still great snow on Palmer chairlift.
Normally during the off days from camp I’ve been completely getting away from camp and Mt Hood in order to come back totally stoked but today was the best off day! Last night some of the Stevens Pass crew rolled into town so I grabbed Nate and we headed to Lake Trillium to camp out for the night. It meant a lot of booze and some trees died but it ended up being such a fun night before a day of shred with them today. [singlepic id=9633 w=600 h=450 float=] The boys riding down Palmer [singlepic id=9634 w=600 h=450 float=] The public park switched over to being below the public pipe so now there are two jumps and then rail/box features below. I liked the switch since it meant lapping pipe, taking jump photos and hitting the boxes on the way down the run. Rocks on the mountain are showing through so finally got some nerve to ollie some rocks today.
Have you ever dreamed of pulling a 900? What about a double corked 1080? Maybe your first 360? This summer with the Woodward Camp at Copper you can progress your own riding with the help of foam pits, trampolines and coaches so you don’t miss a beat from the terrain park as summer passes you by. [singlepic id=4905 w=300 h=300 float=] Woodward Camp at Copper gives you access to year round riding and skiing with various options for campers whether it’s the introductory session, drop in sessions or the actual summer camp. They are affordable which in this economic time is great to see that you could try it and check it out without breaking the bank. I think it’s great to see another option on the table for skiers and riders that want to progress their riding in a safe and secure location that can operate year round. They’ve also got sponsored events going on, with Dragon Optics sponsoring Session 2 and Betty Rides taking over Session 6 offering up team riders and giveaways to check out. Copper is only a hour and a half drive from where I live so I’m hoping to make it down to Woodward […]

I made my way down to Summit County for the weekend, with a variety of events going on to attend like Oktoberfest and Working Out the Kinks premiere in Denver. Of course…plans changed and ended up missing both of those but spent Saturday on snow taking photos. It had snowed in Colorado less than a week ago so there was still some fresh snow to be enjoyed but not really rideable except in the area where snow has stuck around all summer. I really wasn’t expecting to snowboard, so I didn’t bring down my gear for the weekend. But luckily I brought a camera and that made me the photog for the day. It was sunny and I forgot sunscreen so I’m paying for that mistake today…I’m burnt crispy in the face. Saturday was a beautiful day, really warm out and surprisingly warmer as you got higher up the drive to Breck. I had 6 people packed in my truck for the drive up. We had to park the truck lower than where the rails are set up because of snow on the road. It was a great day cause there were two other cars when we got there and […]

After spending yesterday at St Mary’s Glacier and me not wanting to leave Summit County, we headed up to ride the snow that is left at Breck’s 4th of July bowl. You can actually drive up to the top and park right by the snow, but it’s a rocky road and 4WD is necessary. This is the view from the top today. Luckily I drive a Toyota Tacoma and it does the job…even when I doubt it. Here’s the crew today: Lauren hiding behind TJ changing his pants and K.There are generally rails set up and today there was one left and a couple small logs to play around with. I parked the truck about 20 feet from the snow, so there wasn’t much hiking involved today. The girls: Lauren and myself. TJ setting up a jump within the view of being in the clouds. I spent most of my time being the photographer for the day, which is quite fine with me. I did make a couple turns on the snowpack and it was fun. The snow was soft and dirty but less bumpy than St. Mary’s Glacier yesterday.
Today was my 100th day on snow for this season and I’m stoked! My personal goal was to hit 100 and now I have accomplished it, with a couple days of hiking and more to come. The crew is back in town or free from injuries…die hards that still want to ride so I made my way down to summit to hit up St Mary’s Glacier for the first time. The crew was TJ, K, Lauren, Jon and myself. There’s a beautiful lake right below the glacier and the hike to get up there wasn’t too bad. A lot of rocks to get through and I was hiking in flip flops to get up. The great news is by the time we got there you can see the snow and how much there is even now in July. There were a lot of hikers around enjoying the lake or the snow but we were the only snowboarders up there to make turns. We made it up to the bottom of the snow and got ready putting on our snowboard boots and gear for the hike. The elevation of St Mary’s Glacier is 10,000+ feet…the snow is probably around 11,000ft right […]

So I’ll be switching between past and future experiences in my blog. I’ll try to make it pretty clear when I’m bringing something back from the past so I don’t confuse anyone. I’ve been living in Steamboat Springs, Colorado for over a year now. I am originally a Washington native and still trek my way back there a couple times a year to shred my old local mountains and visit good friends/family. Back in May I found a great deal on plane tickets from Denver to Seattle…so I decided I would head back in the summer, get some glacier riding in and enjoy a week off to relax. I flew out really late on Wednesday August 1st so my day was really relaxing to make the 3 hour drive to Denver. I stopped by Never Summer on the way to pick up 2 snowboards to test out during the time I was riding, Tracey set me up with the SL 158 and Heritage 155 for my trip. Then I hung out at a swimming pool in Denver with my best friend until my flight at 7pm. On Friday, waited for my friend Scott to get off work and we hit […]
