Today was a good day. The day that everything starts to come back that you forgot, the day that you have a good crew to ride with and the day that snowboarding is fun. My snowboard legs started to come back, making today a lot more comfortable on the boxes and back on the board. We ended up having our group of girls lapping the park today. It was Michelle, Angela, myself, Caitlin and Taylor lapping the box section of Windells Park in the sun. With the rope tow right there, you could lap over and over to your hearts content. Switched up the boards with the Ride Kink to take out on the snow today thanks to the Windells demo center. Pretty fun board for the conditions on the mountain and park laps. I’ll make sure to post a review soon on it. I was able to play around with the Zeal Z3 testing out the GPS and tracking on them when I took longer runs today. I’ll play around with them more tomorrow to get the full testing done. After lapping park and hitting boxes, I was ready to call it a day and head down the mountain […]

After spending the last couple weeks mountain biking, I finally planned a trip to visit Mt Hood for some much needed shred time. For those seeking summer snowboarding in the US, Timberline Lodge has it and there are two popular summer camps that offer fun private parks for your enjoyment. The northwest had a good winter which means an awesome summer for park building on the glacier. Arriving back at Mt Hood in the summer is always magnificent. The mountain fills up with tourists, races, park rats and everyone who just wants to enjoy the snow longer. I was really stoked to see the snow conditions for mid-July and see that you could still ride to the bottom. The weather held up throughout most of the day, there were some clouds that came through but it remained rideable all day long. Located right next to each other, HCSC and Windells battle it out for snowboard camps in the summer. I was really excited to be able to ride both camps today so I spent the morning lapping HCSC with Steph and the afternoon at Windells getting some photos and lapping the easier features. Both camps have rope tows so you […]

There’s a list in my head of things I want to do when it comes to snowboarding. It’s not really a bucket list but more a list that every snowboarder dreams of. One of the items was to do a summer at Mt Hood and I can finally cross it off the list. There was a chance that this summer might not have happened, I interviewed at two rad companies right before Mt Hood and I made the decision that I would stick to my commitment of riding this summer. Looking back on the summer, I have no regrets and I walked away with friendships, fun and my longest season of snowboarding ever. I arrived at Mt Hood in late May which meant seeing the full summer snow conditions at Timberline each day. In early June, Timberline was covered with tons of snow. It was like winter at any other mountain and it meant that this summer would be great for snow conditions through September. In mid-June we received a powder day and it was the first time riding powder in the summer months (so worth it!). Eventually as the summer wore on, the snow melted into the familiar areas […]

We’re already down to the last two sessions before Windells ends…summer has flown by with the amount of fun I’ve been having. The session 6 campers arrived today so it was a perfect day to head up to the slopes to just freeride without either camp operating. Timberline is a public mountain but the camps have their own private parks however just lapping the chairlifts and public park are enough for a amazing day of shredding. Dillon laying down a carve on the slope [singlepic id=9744 w=600 h=338 float=] Wide open Palmer snowfield laps [singlepic id=9747 w=600 h=338 float=] Today was so much fun for just making the mountain a funfest. Dillon and I spent most of the day riding together, getting in some fun slow laps ollie’ing rocks, snow chunder, bonking fences…whatever we felt like. [singlepic id=9745 w=600 h=338 float=] Towards the bottom of Palmer was a snow pile that you could gap so the guys tried their hand at getting some on it.
We’ve got two days off from Windells Camp before session 3 begins but that means a relaxing morning and then hitting up the mountain for an amazing bluebird day of riding with Izzy, Johnny and met up with my friend Julie and family. During off-days the Windells private park is closed so we just lapped the public park which is awesome, tons of features and I’ve been hitting more and more as each week progresses. Today I was enjoying the up to flat box, wallride and bonk feature. [singlepic id=9415 w=300 h=400 float=] My buddy Julie and myself…stoked to have a friend out at Hood all summer. [singlepic id=9416 w=400 h=300 float=] Some of the staff was on the mountain which makes lapping the mountain easy to ride into people you know. I saw Mackenzie hitting the jump line so snagged this shot of her. For the most part I just lapped park without taking out the camera for shots. [singlepic id=9417 w=400 h=300 float=] Looks like tomorrow I’ll be making a trip with the Academy kids but session 3 begins on Saturday!

I’ve been anxiously awaiting the beautiful bluebird days that summer riding at Timberline is known for and despite some cold winter/rainy weather we finally got a great sunny day on the slopes today. [singlepic id=9404 w=400 h=300 float=] The camp features have been progressing nicely, we have the dream feature this session but also a bunch of fun features down to the main park area where the two rope tows are. [singlepic id=9405 w=400 h=300 float=] I’ve progressed from the mini features to trying out some of the boxes in the main line but still working on my ollie’ing onto features.
So far the summer of snowboarding has been hit or miss with weather and today was another winter weather kind of day on the mountain. It started out with blue skies that you thought would come out but they ended up hiding away in the clouds by the end of the morning. [singlepic id=9400 w=300 h=400 float=] I woke up early for breakfast, carpooled up to the mountain with Dania and headed inside the day lodge to find Paul’s group who I would be tagging along with for the day. Since it was Father’s Day, I wanted to follow Tom who is a snowboarder here at camp with his son Luke who is a skier. It worked out perfectly and we got some shots of them today progressing on the small jumps and both of them were campers of the day. [singlepic id=9402 w=400 h=300 float=] I ended up lapping park working on my own riding for a couple runs through Windells, doing the mini features and longer up down box. It was a good day but eventually the cold wind and weather got to me. It’s been great to be at camp and recognize people who follow shayboarder, today […]

This morning started out with cloudy skies and rain down off the mountain but it was one of those days where it didn’t last long and Timberline was above the clouds line as the afternoon progressed on. I headed up to the mountain later than normal to avoid the lift lines and met up with Coach Dania to follow the ski girls for the day. One of the coolest things about being here is hanging out with both skiers and snowboarders because we are both doing something we love regardless of what’s underneath our feet. [singlepic id=9385 w=400 h=267 float=] The morning started with a session at the public park which on mid-week days is empty so you can have features to yourself. Timberline is open to the public but the camps are private, however the public park is definitely a great spot to ride as well.
