When it goes to magazine reviews, the Good Wood test is the most popular and longest running snowboard test. The Good Wood Test was designed to give the best performing park and all-mountain boards the chance to standout among the rest of the boards. For 2013, boards are split between men and women, over and under $450 in all mountain and park categories. TWS made a point of explaining the testing, how a board is scored and who the testers are. I’ve ridden over ten of the boards that made the list for this year. Standout boards for men’s all-mountain were the Capita BSOD, Lib T.Rice, TRS and Greats. For men’s park, the Salomonder and Ultrafear were favorites when I rode them in years past. For the women’s results, I completely agree with all of the all-mountain boards and can see how the other boards won for park. The best way to interpret this list is see what works for you and try it for yourself…your own personal test matters more than anything else. Top Ten Men’s Boards Under $449 Burton Super Hero (park) Burton Parkitect (park) Salomon Sabotage (park) Capita Ultrafear FK (park) Capita Defenders of Awesome (park) K2 […]

In the grand scheme of snowboard tests, the Transworld Snowboarding Good Wood test is the longest running and the most well known test that defines a list of boards to consider each season. I’ve tagged along with the Good Wood Test a couple times to see how they test each snowboard and got to see the Mammoth GW Test in action last spring. Here’s the list of what boards made the cut for this season and my thoughts on the list. For 2012, boards are split between men and women, over and under $400 and all mountain and park categories. When I first started hearing of the boards that won, I was happy to see which boards got recognized. I think it’s a list most like my own taste for reviewed boards from this year and past reviews. For the men, the Stepchild Powder Sucks, GNU Park Pickle/Riders Choice, Lib Tech Attack Banana, TRS and Box Scratcher have always rated high in reviews and been boards that are very popular with riders. For the women, the Arbor Swoon, GNU B-Pro, Roxy Eminence, Smokin Vixen, Arbor Cadence were all boards that offered up great choices for the female riders depending on […]

For 13 years, Transworld has done the Good Wood Test to determine the best boards in snowboarding. With all the 2012 boards out, they do the test each year in the spring with selected riders to find out the most popular boards of the bunch. This year the Good Wood Test was in Mammoth, they started earlier this week on the mountain and today was the last day for the testers to evaluate the boards. Two years ago Transworld let me experience the test at Breckenridge where I blogged about the experience and today I stopped by the test to check it out again and borrow a couple boards for myself. A huge thanks to Ben and Annie for allowing me to experience it once again. Transworld Good Wood Testers [singlepic id=11495 w=500 h=281 float=] The amount of boards at the Transworld Good Wood Test is amazing, it fills a whole room. There are tech guys on hand to switch out boards and riders have boards assigned to them to ride for the day. There are tons of brands, models and sizes to choose from. Basically if you love riding boards, this is your library of awe to choose from. […]

When it comes to snowboard tests, the Good Wood is the longest running and most well known test that defines a list of boards to consider for the upcoming season. I’ve been able to go behind the scenes with the Good Wood Test in the past to check out how they try and test each snowboard. With fall just around the corner, the 2011 Good Wood results have hit the newstands and here’s the list in case you haven’t seen what boards made the cut for this season. [singlepic id=6062 w=182 h=189 float=] For 2011, the Pipe and Mountain options are missing from the test which means that the Good Wood is straight up Park Boards once again. Over the years I’ve reviewed a good amount of the boards in this list but this list also features boards that I haven’t had the opportunity to take out yet. The women’s list has the majority of boards I’ve ridden and favorites like the Eco Pop, Vixen, Eminence and Lipstick made the list. It’s interesting to see that boards like the TRS and Jib Stick are crossing over into mens and womens and I totally agree on the slim version of men’s […]

As the 08-09 season was winding down, I made the trek to Breckenridge to spend one day watching the Good Wood Test to get a feel for what the test was like behind the scenes and document the experience on shayboarder.com. Now the results are out for the 2010 Good Wood Test with the Transworld Gear Guide hitting mailboxes and stores. [singlepic id=6062 w=182 h=189 float=] I’ve ridden 6 of the men’s winning boards and 6 of the women’s winning boards and when I look at the list of boards none of them really surprise me especially ones that I have ridden in previous years and know what the board is like. When I was able to first try 09-10 boards at the Keystone demos in February, there were a couple boards that stood out like the Park Pickle, Extr-eco and B-pro that were solid boards for any rider and I’m glad to see them on the list. There are other boards I have ridden that I was eh about because I’m not the rider that should ride them. It’s no surprise to me that K2 is a heavy hitter on the list this year, with such a variety of […]
