Colorado has played a pivotal role in snowboarding. There is so much history of snowboard production, riding and resorts in this area that it was only a matter of time before it was collected and shown to the masses. Thanks to Trent Bush, David Allen and Kurt Olesek there is finally a place in the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Museum for the history of snowboarding. Tonight was the Grand Opening at the museum in Vail and well worth a seven hour drive from Utah to make it in time for the gathering of friends, industry and media to see a private glimpse. Upon arrival, the snowboard portion was packed with people. The amazement of the progressiong of snowboarding and the history told in words and photos. Local brands like Twist, Solid, Never Summer and many more were shown on the walls with first productions. Never Summer’s history in Colorado was clear with a showcase of their first production board and the 20th anniversary model. Owner Tracey Canaday showing his skills on camera with the photo. Snowboard bindings have also changed over time. Imagine riding in these to get down the mountain. Now we have our pick of flex, response, manuevability […]

It’s rare to see a snowboarder riding without highbacks on the mountain, so uncommon that if you try it you’ll get interesting glances by those who notice and the people you snowboard with might question your sanity. The concept of riding without highbacks has been around since the beginning of snowboarding but moved into the shadows once highbacks were invented in 1983. In the early 90’s Tarquin Robbins took his highbacks off and re-started the no-back revolution that Mike Ranquet would later be known for and write about in his theory of no highbacks in Transworld Snowboarding. Since then I’ve learned of other snowboarder following in the no-back footsteps like Signal’s Dave Lee and Brandbase’s Trent Bush. But it wasn’t until earlier this year that I was in the midst of a discussion about no-backs when I decided that to understand the concept of no-backs meant experiencing it first hand. [singlepic id=8956 w=300 h=450 float=] How often do you really look at a snowboarders highback on the mountain? I found out that after a couple runs with Mike from Signal in December that I rarely looked at another snowboarders highback. During the entire time we rode together, I didn’t […]

Shay: Tell us a little bit about yourself Trent: Born and raised in Boulder, CO. I live here now with my wife Stacy and 2 kids Astrid and Trent Jr. We’re now officially a snowboarding family. I met my wife through snowboarding (she was a competitive snowboarder in the early 90’s, competing in the US Open, etc.) and now my kids officially ride top to bottom. They are now 5 and 6 and starting to hit boxes, trying to jump, and I feel my 2nd childhood coming on, even though I haven’t quite finished my first one. Snowboarding has kept me a kid by profession. I love it. Shay: What is your job title? Trent: I’m a partner at Brandbase, which is the company that owns/operates Technine, Nomis, and SOUND. [singlepic id=6271 w=400 h=225 float=] Shay: Did your parents question your job choice? Trent: Not really. They were pretty much used to my brother (Troy) and I doing our own thing, and they supported it completely. In fact they were very proud of all we were able to line up at an early age. They were a little bummed because Troy and I were the first ones in the history […]
