Setup: I rode the Union Force Bindings on the Nitro Eero Ettala with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: Average time to set up on the board. Fit: I rocked the Forces in the M/L size which is what I’ve used in the past. They fit my size 8 women’s boots with some adjustments to the straps and heelcup. First Impression: I can always count on the Forces to be my go-to binding on the mountain. Gets the job done without the bells and whistles. Appearance: I tried the Forces in the bright pink colorway. I prefer the blue but the pink is really really bright, similar to the women’s Trilogy bindings this year but for the men to have the bright pink option. Comfort: The Forces continue to offer comfort on the mountain, good padding in the highback to baseplate. The straps are form fitting to the boot. Functionality: The Union Forces are known for workhouse dependability. They feature stage II base dupont zytel ST, multizone dupont ST highbacks with injected EVA bushings. Extruded anodized aluminum heelcups, quick adjust […]

Setup: I rode the Union Trilogy Bindings on the GNU B-Pro and Jones Mothership with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: The Union Trilogies were easy to set up and adjusted with the straps to be ready to go. Fit: I rocked the Trilogies in the medium sizing which were a good fit to my size 8 Vans boots. Only an adjustment to the straps was needed to make sure they were centered. First Impression: I can always count on this binding to ride with dominating women’s freeride boards and still hold its own. Appearance: I tried the Trilogies in the Magenta colorway which is bright. On the Jones mothership, the bindings really stood out and on the B-Pro, they were completely suited to the just as bright graphics. I personally loved the bright magenta even though I thought I wouldn’t. Comfort: The Trilogies have bulked up since I last rode them making them even more comfortable in the ankle strap department. Good padding in the baseplate and highback to help absorb some fun fast riding. Functionality: The Union Trilogy […]

Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Union Contact Pro Bindings on the Capita DOA with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: These were the first bindings of the day so easily set up and adjusted. With Unions, the heelcup gets adjusted to fit my boots better so that took a couple extra minutes. Fit: I tried the Union Contact Pro bindings in the M/L sizing which fits my women’s size 8 boots just fine with adjustments. First Impression: It was my first time riding the Contact Pro’s but rode very consistent, comfortable and still capable of powering down the mountain. Appearance: The Union Contact Pros come in black/gray and purple/green. I got to ride the super bright neon purple and green colorway which was my all time favorite. Super outrageous colors but mixed well to make the Contact Pros stand out among the other bright Union bindings. Comfort: The Contact Pro bindings were good on comfort, lots of padding in the straps and absorption padding underneath below your boots. The highback design doesn’t allow for much padding but is where you need it at the lower […]

In eight years, Union Binding Company has become a major player in snowboard bindings for design, functionality and keeping it fun. As SIA was getting started, they added another big player to their team lineup…Travis Rice now joins the ranks of Union Binding riders. For 2013, Union keeps it fresh and continues with their new open toe strap design throughout the line. They’ve added a new carbon binding, the Charger for those wanting response. The 2013 Union Catalog says, “The perfect binding is more than a mechanism. It’s more than a tool. It’s more than the sum of a baseplate, highbacks, straps and hardware. The perfect binding is a catalyst to creating the ultimate connection between rider and board – and that connection spells freedom.” Well done Union. Union MC-Metafuse Metafuse Technology. Features machined coring stage III Atlas base, carbon-injected dupont zytel ST, all-new asym/symmetrical Full Carbon highbacks, precision adjustment foward lean, injected EVA bushings, metafuse heelcups, all-new 3D direct connect strap system, multi-layer tapered strap core , magnesium buckles and aluminum cage, universal disks, all new CNC anodized aluminum hardware, all-new open toe straps, dual density toe ramp padding, full carbon toe ramps, lifetime warranty base.
Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Union Charger on the Jones Flagship Carbon with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: This was the second setup of the day and Parker took care of it, he’s a magician when it comes to demos and turning the screws. Fit: I rode these bindings in the M/L size which fit the width of my boots and were adjusted to fit the length of my boots with the heelcup coming in a notch. The straps did fine with my Vans Ferra boots. First Impression: These bindings are the stiffest in the Union line and no joke. Be ready for response and charging the mountain. Appearance: The Chargers are sleek when you look at them. The full carbon highback is breathtaking and arguably makes you bow down to how it handles. I like the mix of orange with the binding on the ratchets and baseplate and heelcup. Comfort: The padding in the baseplate and toe ramp help cushion the ride. It’s still a lightweight binding and from what I noticed with the Jones Flagship Carbon board, there’s not as much dampening to totally pillowtop […]

Setup: I rode the Union Forces on the Capita Indoor Survival with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: The forces were easy to mount and only took a matter of minutes with adjustments. Fit: I normally use men’s Union bindings throughout the winter so I’m used to using the M/L size with my Vans boots. The width fits and I just have to adjust the heelcup and the straps. First Impression: The Forces are dialed and the neon acid colorway was the only bright thing in the NW that day. Appearance: Neon. You either love it or you hate it. It stands out like a sore thumb and attracts eyes to your bindings very easily. I don’t remember having a choice in the color and personally I don’t care. Right now when I look at it, I wouldn’t pick that color for myself but when I rode it, the brightness was fun in the overcast grey-ish day. Comfort: Comfortable binding overall with good padding that helps absorb rougher terrain. I rode the Forces through some really choppy spots at the Holy […]
