Location: Mission Ridge, WA Snow Conditions: Softpacked groomers to fresh snow on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Union Force Bindings on the Nitro Eero Ettala with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: Average time to set up on the board. Fit: I rocked the Forces in the M/L size which is what I’ve used in the past. They fit my size 8 women’s boots with some adjustments to the straps and heelcup. First Impression: I can always count on the Forces to be my go-to binding on the mountain. Gets the job done without the bells and whistles. Appearance: I tried the Forces in the bright pink colorway. I prefer the blue but the pink is really really bright, similar to the women’s Trilogy bindings this year but for the men to have the bright pink option. Comfort: The Forces continue to offer comfort on the mountain, good padding in the highback to baseplate. The straps are form fitting to the boot. Functionality: The Union Forces are known for workhouse dependability. They feature stage II base dupont zytel ST, multizone dupont ST highbacks with injected EVA bushings. Extruded anodized aluminum heelcups, quick adjust […]

Location: Winter Park, Colorado Snow Conditions: Hardpacked snow conditions that softened up during the day with bluebird skies. Setup: I rode the Union Force bindings with the Never Summer Evo and Smokin PYT with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: Average time for the Forces. I grabbed them from Union and set them up on the Evo and PYT myself. Fit: My Vans boots in size 8 fit fine in the M/L Forces with some adjustment to making sure everything fits properly. The straps worked but I could have adjusted them better for riding. The width of my boot works fine in the men’s binding, the highback height works with my boot height and overall the fit works for me as a rider . First Impression: These are one of the brightest bindings I have seen at the demos, so easy to spot on the mountain and a very popular choice at the demos. Appearance: The 10-11 Force line is my favorite color option, the brights come out to play with their yellow and blue colorway for next year. They still have the signature black/white but the blue just wins me over. I ended […]

It doesn’t matter whether you are a beginner, intermediate, advanced or pro snowoarder…eventually your riding will put wear and tear on the products you use. Sometimes they can last years and sometimes just one year. You’ll rarely see old worn out gear on pro snowboarders but the best place to look is on your home mountain, with your friends to see how gear will hold up and last through a season, through weather and through your riding ability. Pros might beat up their gear faster but average riders beat up their gear over a longer period of time. As a rider you determine when the product is done and when it’s time to replace it. This year I picked up 3 important products needed for my riding, they remained on me throughout this entire season (December to May). These products were the 686 Snaggletooth Jacket, Union Forces and Rome Vamp Boots. They were all purchased around December with the exception of the Forces which I traded my Contacts to get. Normally I wait till these products have hit 100 days, but I wanted to show after one season what they looked like. Union Force Bindings My favorite binding to ride […]

Location: Keystone, Colorado Snow Conditions: Bluebird with hardpacked groomers to a mixture of conditions. Setup: I rode the Union Forces with a variety of snowboards and my Rome Vamp size 8 boots. Time to set up the binding: Average Fit: My Rome vamps fit nicely into the Forces heelcup and the only big adjustment is just making sure the straps are at the right dots lined up to fit my boots. First Impression: There’s a reason I own these bindings and why I use them as my binding for demos, I never need to adjust to them and I know they will do fine riding. Appearance: They are green, bright green and If I buy these for next year I could mix-match with my red pair to be Christmas year round. Really they looked good on the Park Pickle the best. Comfort: The Forces are always comfort, good padding in the highback to baseplate to help soften rough landings and absorb bumpy terrain. The straps are super comfortable and really just molds well to my boot. Functionality: Upgraded ratchets which I hardly noticed, they still run and ratchet without any slips or sticking issues. Quick adjust on the ankle strap […]

Location: Steamboat, Colorado Snow Conditions: Groomers to powder to icy days. Setup: I rode the Union Force bindings with a variety of snowboards but mainly the Infinity-R and Lotus-R and my Vans Omni Focus boots now wearing Rome Vamp boots. Time to set up the binding: Average Fit: It was easy to adjust them to my vans boots however when I changed to Rome boots, I needed to adjust them again because they were adjusted to a different boot. They fit both boots fine. First Impression: I needed a solid pair of bindings to try out as I demo’d companies without bindings…and Force’s were the first choice to rock for the day, I knew they’d be issue-free. Appearance: The red stands out and makes the binding look hot, sizzling red lipstick hot. Comfort: When I first took them out it took a couple runs to adjust to the highback for me, but after that I haven’t noticed it being an issue. I think it was the switch from a lower women’s highback to the men’s highback. The ankle strap is comfortable and molds to my boot just fine. The toe strap once adjusted fits my boot. Padding on the highback […]

George Kleckner is the man behind Union Binding Company. He’s the guy doing the branding, marketing and product design of the bindings. So when I started getting questions regarding Union bindings, he’s the man I turned to for the down and dirty Q & A to elaborate on your questions. Shay: Which binding is the lightest in the Union lineup? George: Force MC – 710 grams. It’s the lightest men’s binding on the market. Shay: How do Union bindings allow for true board flex? George: We have minimized the direct contact from binding-to-board. This is especially important in the heel area of the binding, because it alleviates “dead spots” under your bindings. It also alleviates pressure points where most board breakage occurs. Shay: Does every model have less than 100% binding direct contact to the board? George: Yes. The Contact has the least amount (19%), but even our Stage II base has minimal direct contact. This is the number 1 thing that makes Union Bindings ride different. Shay: What are the similarities and differences between the Contacts and Force bindings? George: Similarities are fit and comfort. The main difference between the two, is the Force baseplate is quite a bit […]
