In my opinion, Park City Mountain Resort has it all. You have amazing parks with tons of jumps and features built to perfection, tons of acreage for freeriders to play on and a vibe that makes you feel welcome and want to come back for more. Plus you can also get a Cobradog. It was a long drive back to Cali from Colorado but a stop at PCMR was definitely worth it. We stayed in Sandy at the Gandee household before cruising up the highway to Park City, found a spot near the base and geared up for a morning on the slopes. Of all the resorts on this trip, PCMR definitely had the best conditions and coverage. It was soft snow that wasn’t too hardpacked or icy and it made lapping chairs so much fun. Even for a Sunday morning, the mountain was busy but it was dispersed out so you never had a line and could enjoy laps without a ton of people on them with you. For the morning, I rode around checking out the mountain and the parks. Taking shots on my iPhone, a couple of which I’ve uploaded here because I really like them. Probably […]

A detour can lead to many great things. Today’s detour included a morning stop at the Canyons Resort in Utah to get our fix of skiing and snowboarding. The best part of today was the resort to ourselves, soft snow groomers and fun turns with friends. We woke up in Park City and headed to the Canyons, parked and took the people mover to the base, then the gondola up to the slopes. The mountain coverage is great for the runs open right now. For me being at the Canyons was a reminder of the light fluffy snow that Utah offers and the aspen trees that I’ve missed the past year. It’s breathtaking and feels good under the feet. The day started with Dan and myself but later we joined up with Philip, a friend from Colorado. I’ve only been to the Canyons a couple times but they always keep their park creative with what they have. Today was no exception, a mix of boxes and rails through the early season park. Plus a car…yep a car at the end of a box. The day was cut short due to needing to be in Colorado for an event so we […]

Today’s riding was either going to be at Canyons or Park City but we weren’t sure which one until late last night. The end result was up to Steph who has been my awesome guide for the shredding and fun in Utah and she picked Park City for today’s riding. After a good night’s sleep and a stop in Park City for morning bagels and coffee we headed to the mountain for a couple hours of sunshine shredding. [singlepic id=8295 w=400 h=300 float=] One of the reasons Steph wanted Park City is groomed to perfection which definitely matters when you have no new snow and it can be icy in the am, we got to the mountain just in time for the snow to soften up and to get in those perfect groomer runs. [singlepic id=8293 w=400 h=300 float=] The first day I got to town, Steph mentioned a Park City instructor Martin who has a shayboarder sticker on his board. Well the sticker wasn’t a shayboarder one but he does know and read the blog (he’ll get a sticker soon!). We ended up running into him at Park City while he was teaching snowboarding to students from Hawaii. It […]

I must say everytime I come to Park City, it’s a good time. From the snowboarding to the nightlife, it’s always up there in top moments of fun trips I’ve taken. Last night I went to dinner at Deer Valley with Steph and Meisha from PCMR joined us, then out to drinks where we met up with Shane from Siege before calling it a night. This morning we woke up bright and early to head to Snowbird for a full day of shredding. This was my first time to Snowbird but it’s been on the list of must-go-to resorts for a while especially on a powder day. Even on a bluebird day like today I was stoked to get out and enjoy the mountain with some leftover dust on crust action. Waiting on the tram [singlepic id=8283 w=300 h=400 float=] There’s a couple mountains I’ve been to that give you that on top of the world feeling, Blackcomb-Whistler and Alyeska are the ones before that reminded me and now Snowbird. The view from the tram ride was intense and as soon as we got off, that feeling of being up high with so much terrain and peaks around you is […]

I arrived into Park City last night, caught up on a good nights sleep and now am spending time in Utah before heading home to Colorado. I had never ridden Brighton but heard good things about the mountain so Steph and I headed there to get our turns in. Since I’ve been traveling my calendar is all messed up and I had to keep remembering it’s midweek so most people are still working. We pulled into the Brighton parking lot and it reminded me of the good ole’ northwest riding, parking lot to mountain…none of the resort feel in between. [singlepic id=8276 w=400 h=300 float=] Whenever I visit Park City I visit my friend Steph who I know from the snowboard.com days and we both love shredding so it’s good to have a friend that is up for the days when I visit town. She rips and pushes me to rip as well. [singlepic id=8277 w=400 h=300 float=] As soon as we got to the chairlift we ended up running into Daniel who I know from twitter, he’s burritoandsnow online. Brighton is his home mountain so we spent the day lapping runs with him.
Every couple years I enjoy a good road trip because it allows me to visit a bunch of people on one trip but also it lets me really think about my life. I could lie on a beach in Hawaii drinking Corona but that never has the same effect as being forced to endure long hours in the truck, listening to songs that remind me of all the decisions I’ve made and thinking about them deeply. So needless to say, it’s been time for a roadtrip in my life and I’m taking it finally.
